Right.
So can anyone tell me regarding the updated red version, are there any other glaring flaws on the rep version?
The other flaw I can find right now looking at the pictures on trusty's website vs. the gen is the length of the subdial hands, the hands should go all the way to the edge of the subdial, they look a tad short in the rep. Also the pearl isn't centered and is a tad to low and touching the edges of the triangle. Besides that I don't see anything else other than what's been mentioned already in this thread.

hey guys I might get another tag watch later... upon research, basically that Tags without the "metal" Tag Heuer Logo badge looks better because the arrows on the metal badge doesn't seem defined at all, and it looks very cheap...
so I narrowed it down to 3 models, Link ETA, Link Chrono with Tachy bezel, and smooth Link Chrono.
I am leaning towards the smooth Link Chrono.
because:
The tachy bezel chrono has two tells, the date font, and the sub-dial "sticks" are wrong length in some departments.
and hte Link, i don't know, it seems very accurate... but the crown is bugging the hell out of me.
I don't know if there are any problems with the smooth bezel Link Chrono (updated)...
any suggestions??
thank you.
I have a Link Chrono from trusty time and it's a VERY good watch. It doesn't have many flaws on it that are glaring, the font looks pretty close and even spot on at times, and I'm not sure what you mean by the sub-dial ticks. Mine are spot on with the gen.
As far as faults, my watch has a few "rough" links on the band that don't look like they were finished properly. I just need a day with some free time to polish them up and and take a file to some of the stray bits at the edge. With a lot better quality control that some dealers have like trusty (that's where mine is from) it's going to be a bit easier to find any flaws and reject the watch before you get it!
My personal advice is get the Chrono version with the tach bezel. It looks a lot more formal and can be sporty at the same time! Also if you do get it, I suggest you send it off to a watchsmith and get it serviced! I had mine serviced and it's been keeping time within +/- 2 sec a day. I have to get it serviced again soon (almost 4 years soon) so it stays in tip top shape.
By the way, the crown on my watch is spot on.

Gotcha. But all these problems have been worked out on the non-red rep version, right?
A lot of the inconsistencies were fixed but a stripped crown can happen on any watch including a Genuine watch if you aren't careful with the crown. It's not as hard as it sounds, just simply be a tad patient with the crown and don't force it onto the watch, just nice and gentle.
-
sorry, not exactly sure what you mean (newbie)?
Why would old version be more prone to thread damage - how so?
The crown is a screw in style where it has threads (like a nut) and attaches onto the tube (like a bolt). If the crown isn't properly put onto the tube after you are done adjusting the watch, the threads will break apart since they aren't lined up. Think of like a soda bottle where you can't get the cap back on!
FYI the watch to the right is the newer version of the Seamaster Chronometer 300M. It differs most notably with the red text and the missing lume which you caught. A big issue on these watches is the pearl (make sure it's centered and aligned properly and not outside the triangle), the HE valve HAS to be at the 10 o'clock position on this model, the red color should be red and not a reddish orange like on a few reps. Also another giveaway to look for is the bezel. Notice by the #'s such as 30, on the gen model the bezel is NOT cut into and has an engraved section after that position and then once again solid where it says 40. Also I believe that there is an issue with the rep's using screws vs pins or something of the nature on the bracelet. I can't remember since it's so late but there was def. an issue on the earlier models when I was looking at them a few months ago.
-
No I haven't had the rep, but I have heard it is pretty decent. The only issue is, as is the problem with most rep TAG's, is the blue color is way off. The black is supposed to be a great rep though.
The blue that Tag uses is simply amazing and looks gorgeous esp. on the Link and the Aquaracer models. Congrats on your new purchase! She's a beauty!

I've been searching and reading for a bit with The Zigmeister's articles among other posts and I had 2 questions about the mainspring being wound in 7750:
1. Does the rotor wind up the mainspring (the one that holds the power to run the watch) if the crown is set to the date change position or time change position (or is completely removed)? I read here that when winding with the crown, the winding motion is amplified due to the numerous gears and goes DIRECTLY to the mainspring which winds it very quickly, and that the rotor uses clutches and gear system to reduce the amount winding done with one motion; both of these didn't clear it up but helped me understand!
2. Which way does the rotor need to spin on the 7750 to charge it, counter clockwise or clockwise?

The pendulum is a great watch but without the magnets and the clearly visible spring, it's not going be remotely accurate. After all that was the whole point of the pendulum, get rid of the spring and have a magnetic movement.

I'm sure I won't get any "+1"s for my post but, I thought I would throw it out there anyway.
I am really on the fence as to what I should do

I've used Andrew @ trustytime and he's been awesome! No problems buying 2 tags from him. Both accurate and running well. As said above, check out the reviews and also look on their sites and take a look at the pictures they have posted.

it looks like the pushers are wrong on the sides as well...

That PVD one is
pvd? also how is the watch's weight compared to the gen?

Was looking at gen seamasters, but love the look of the gen aquaracer wab2011.
They are on amazon.com for $900.00 new.
Pretty sure im gonna pull the trigger one since it's cheaper new than a used seamster.
if you buy from amazon you have no warranty from tag since they are not an authorized dealer. so there's no point in spending 900 dollars for something tag won't accept.

I went to an authorized dealer and looked at it in person. the Calibre S is a very complicate movement that cannot be reproduced, its an electrical movement that is battery powered. As well when the battery is low, the electronics cause it to move in 5 sec increments rather than 1sec increments. Yes, the watch ticks, not sweeps. I guess that there will not be a rep for this one.
-
I've looked at a few places and haven't found a calibre S link or aquaracer, has anyone found one?

I got my carrera from Trusty Time and its been ok. I got it with the chrono function on and it wouldn't stop, after sending it back it was fixed by him and it worked well. Then one day a friend decides to try the chrono and the same thing happens. Now its sitting at a watch-smith who says he can't get parts to fix it... The look of the rep was pretty good when I got it, only few flaws were the misalignment of the bezel and the blue screws in the movement. This would have been a great rep if the chrono could work properly once...
-
alright, but i meant something non-distructive like letting the reserve run out or something.

hi,
I got the watch today from trustytime, and i wound the watch using the crown. As soon as i turned the crown twice, the chronograph seconds hand started moving. I finished turning the crown to charge it and then tried to push the start/stop button. The button was stuck! the reset button doesn't work as it is moving now and needs to be stopped before it can reset. I have sent an email to the seller to see if he will replace it. In the mean time, is there any way i can easily fix it?
-
IMHO it's a really really nice looking watch...
but the only problem I have is the SS bracelet...
the gap between the bracelet links are just too big for my liking...
if you take the rep off of your wrist & hold it in your hands, the rep will feel too floppy...
a dead give away that it's a NOT a genuine TAG...
what a pity.
is it not possible to source a genuine Tag SS Band? That would make the rep. look much better. I ordered one from trusty, still waiting for it to arrive. Also is there any DIY's on how to resize the band on the carrera?

Are these two movements the same? After reading a bit here, it appears that the Asian 7750 has alot of problems and needs to be serviced when bought. I want to get a Tag Heuer Carrera Replica, Black face, Chronograph, Automatic, SS band, and on Kings website, the movement is a Asian 7750 @ 28800, while on Andrews website (trystywatchguy) he has a Asian Valjoux 7750. Are these the same movements or totally different. As well, is the Asian Valjoux more reliable than the Asian 7750 or is it going to need the same servicing upon arrival and need to be babied so the watch doesn't fall apart in a day? Sorry in advance, I am a newb in the replica watch world.

thank you for the welcome, moving on, the watch itself, is it near authentic or is it kinda like a cheap ebay one where its says Automatic but is really a quartz watch. Also is the back of the watch supposed to say TAG Heuer, calibre 6 on the back on the movement? Also can someone explain to me the difference bettween the Tag - 76 and the tag -54? they appear to be the same. BTW, i want one with a steel band, black face, black outerdial (not sure of technical name), chronograph and Automatic.

i was looking for the tag carrera and came upon watchez.com, i was then googled them and came here to find that they were a big scam. I thank this forum for that as I was almost ready to order from them. Anyway, I came upon cclv.net and the tag they had there looked pretty well constructed. Here is the link for it:
http://www.cclv.net/ it is the TAG076 ASIAN-7750-NEW. Is it of good quality and is the site one that won't scam me? Thank you for the help.

hi, this carrera is a really nice watch. I am new to the watch world and was wondering where you bought it from. Also is this a replica with just auto written on it or is it an actual automatic as in this thread?
