  1. Made me sad and angry at the same time reading this. This guy needs the same treatment dished out on him...
  2. Hmm, you're right about the dial Emuozz. However there are other differences in terms of the case, the bracelet, lugs, how the bracelet attaches to the case etc. This leads me to believe that the current MBK Nautilus's are a copy of the first batch that was produced, and as Lord Rasta pointed out, you will get differences when its a copy of a copy of a copy etc. The only difference being, if my theory is correct, that MBK have been able to do a much better job (naturally as they created the first batch ) than their chinese counterparts whose version of the Nautilus is not upto par with the MBK version. One of the main reasons I started this thread, was I remember reading a post by Kruzer I think, where he stated that the first batch Nautilus is very rare today. I just wanted to know for sure whether or not I have that particular version and how can I tell if I do.
  3. Thanks for all the responses guys However the question still remains: What are the major differences (if any) between the first batch produced by MBK, and the current batch available from them today. I would love to know these, even if they are small
  4. Yes the black dial is very nice, I know the blue one has an amazing effect in light, and does look awesome in the pics, but I mostly collect black-dialed watches and I just thought the black dial version would look better on my wrist. I believe this dial is incorrect especially because it has the tracks, I have never seen this one before anywhere.
  5. LR, I thought that was going to be asked sooner or later I thought someone might know the specific details and then I could check mine to see if it had those, but the pictures method can work as well. Unfortunately its dark here so pics won't come out very good. I had a couple from before but they might not be the best ones to do a check on:
  6. I believe I may be the owner of a first batch MBK Nautilus. In fact I've been told by the previous owner that my one was the 'prototype' Nautilus produced by MBK, CNC'ed from the gen. I don't know much about the details on the Nautilus model, but are there any tells from the current range of MBK Nautilus available, and the ones that were newly released by MBK, I beleive a few years back. Perhaps some of the veteran members might know?? Any input is greatly appreciated.
  7. That chain he has around his neck is worth way more than the watch. Jay Z started off the whole sophisticated look for rappers, including wearing Audemars Piguet, and as always everyone else follows suit.
  8. Thanks Freddy, much appreciated. I always thought that these cleaners/conditioners could be used on the underside to make straps more supple, as I believed its these areas on the strap which can be more stiff in some of the cheaper quality straps commonly found on rep PAMs.
  9. I recently bought a pre-owned watch that came on a leather strap. The strap however has been used a fair bit, and the underside of the strap has really darkened. I'm assuming that this is because of dirt and oils from the wearers skin which has ingrained into the underside of the strap. How would I be able to safely clean the underside of the leather strap? I've done a fair bit of googling but some of the methods I have come across seem questionable. White vinegar??? Wouldn't that make the strap stink and affect the PH balance of the strap Also, can leather cleaners and conditioners be applied to the underside of a leather strap or only the outerside?
  10. There may be some slight differences in the case details, again you can't tell from the pics on the website because its showing the same watch. In any case I seriously doubt that these case differences are worth the $120.
  11. I also noticed this on Angus's website, and the only difference that is listed is the AR. Now AR alone is not worth the $200 difference. The lite version and the non-lite version seem to be the same minus the AR.
  12. That one looks exactly the same as the one Silix offers. IMO the best SMP available right now.
  13. In fact I would say thats a clone ETA, however it is quite difficult to tell with the lighting. And the movement holder screws and clamps are missing.
  14. Loving the Seiko's! I remember my dad wearing similar watches when I was a toddler
  15. Thanks for the response guys. I'm going for a gen, and a Quartz model (YIKES ) The reasoning behind this is that I now have my grail mechanical watch and I don't need another one which will require servicing costs etc. This is the model I'm looking to go for: To me, this one looks the most handsome out of the seamaster series. That dial is something else. The quartz model should be cheaper than the automatic and the mid-size may also make this one cheaper. I'll have to do some research to find good prices on this one. What would be a good price for a pre-owned, mid-sized quartz model of this one?
  16. Does anyone here own one or seen one in person? Are they worth buying or are the full size ones much better? If any one does have own, I would really appreciate wrist shots for comparison Thanks!
  17. Thanks for all the replies guys, you've all been really helpful. A special thanks to Chris for his kind gesture
  18. My sister has a problem with wearing any watch that has a metal band, and most probably a metal caseback (need to verify this). I want to buy her a watch as she doesn't wear any due to the allergic reaction she gets from wearing one. Even with silver and gold she receives the rash on her wrist. Do members here have any suggestions (with pics) on nice ladies reps out there made from anything except metal. Thanks
  19. I bought a rep with the common 'asian 21J' movement inside which I believe is a DG2813. The watch had been running fine until I put it inside a drawer in my office, and then after having put it on later on in the day, I noticed that the watch lost 2 hours or so. I then set the time back to normal and wore it on my wrist. The next day in the morning, the watch completely stopped working, the seconds hand doesn't tick at all. Does this sound like the watch is magnetized, or possibly something else? In all of the reps I've owned, this is the only one where the movement has died on me.
  20. Mine has to be the Rhodium roman. The silver roman doesn't look too bad either So fellow members, which ones are your faves?
  21. Good responses from everyone The pattern seems to be that watch enthusiasts/lovers are much more fascinated with the actual watches, and so will tend to have a larger collection. However those who just want to wear a nice watch, tend to own far less, some even one only and just stick with that one. Personally, as much as I like watches, I can't like watches enough for them to become an important part of my life. At the end of the day they're just material things, often used by people to show off their wealth.
  22. Collecting anything is a fascinating thing, because it leads many of us to obsession. Whether its stamps, guns, cars, records, watches etc. theres always a common trait between all collectors. So this question wasn't intended to any of the collectors, you guys are nuts (to me) and I can't find the logic behind collecting habits. I'm talking more of the general watch enthusiast, or just someone who likes wearing nice watches. I've found that most gen watch owners are not enthusiasts at all, they know [censored] all about their watch or the brands.
  23. This question has intrigued me since entering the world of reps and watches in general. Every person I know who owns genuine timpieces only has the one. That’s the watch they intend to wear for the rest of their life. These watches almost always have a handsome look about them, battle scars and the likes which shows they’ve been well worn during their time. Now most of us rep ‘collectors’, whether we like to admit it or not, we would like to pass off our watches as gens providing no one asks ‘is it real?’ (and some of us would even lie when asked that question… shame shame). We get worked up about flaws and then this turns into an obsession. Many of us find that we’re never satisfied until we start modding them with gen parts, some still aren’t satisfied even after this. Most rep owners ‘rotate’ their watches. Some on an almost daily basis, others weekly, and some of us real rep nuts even do several rotations during the day. Now, haven’t you ever wondered that won’t other people find it suspicious when they see a $5K watch on your wrist one day, a $20K watch another day, a $7K watch the day after that, a $15K watch the day after that etc. and yet you don’t live the lifestyle of a multi-millionaire. Won’t that draw more attention and suspicion to you? (Of course assuming people notice what’s on your wrist, in my experience most people don’t give a [censored] what watch is on your wrist). IMO people would be far less suspicious if one was to wear just one watch and be done with it. Or maybe a couple more and rotate those, but not 15+ !!!! Of course if you’re loaded, and I mean really [censored]ing loaded, then you can pull it off
  24. I agree with Richard on this. I personally would be happy with one really nice watch for the rest of my life, but these damn reps have got me pulled in. Fortunately, my collecting/spending habits have changed drastically since getting into reps. At first it was all quantity and volume, now I'm learning my tastes and have really narrowed down my collection. I still have spent far too much money than I would have liked to. I'm also one of the very few people here who don't own a business and have more money than they could spend in their lifetime. Being a 22 year old university student who has funded all his reps via loans, I can't really afford to buy all the nice watches that are coming out. My current favourite without a doubt is the PP Nautilus, this is one watch I would be happy with for the rest of my life
