  1. Why would you sell the box and papers without the watch, won't it "devalue" the Fiddy itself to be without them? Also, these boxes are different (much bigger) from the standard Panerai box, right?
  2. Hmm, thanks for the reminder--I need to watch Serenity again. I downloaded Season 1 of Terminator and watched the first 10 minutes; it was OK for a network TV show.
  3. I really liked dealing with Silix, very professional and a smooth transaction. The strap, however, was making my UPO look cheap so I went back to the bracelet. As for flaws, the pearl in the UPO is positioned about .5mm too low in the bezel insert, a tiny flaw but one that can be spotted from across a conference table. Also the "sea monster" on the caseback has a flat surface, the gen is much more rounded; it's very obvious if you look for it.
  4. Custom straps are nice and all, but what difference does it make how much the watch costs? It's still just two little scraps of leather, not like a pair of handmade shoes or something.
  5. I was bargaining with one of the Canal Street guys for a BR01, he wouldn't go any lower than $80. I told him the guy three stalls back was willing to sell it for $40, he says "Yeah but all my watches have Swiss movements, so they cost more." Hilarious.
  6. I agree, I would rather get functional mods like double AR and better lume than pay $200 to have the pearl moved up 1mm, but I wear this watch all the time and I would hate for anyone to be able to tell at a glance it is fake, even though of course they would have to know what to look for. It's a shame for a watch to be so close to perfect and have one glaring flaw.
  7. I just bought one from Silix, along with the rubber strap and a Bond lighter. Maybe he doesn't want to send the dial by itself? Modding the logo will be nice, but I think the pearl placement is the biggest flaw--and it's an expensive fix.
  8. Perfect for people who still wear Ed Hardy.
  9. What about heating the watch and putting it in a beaker of cold water, then watching for escaping bubbles. Would the higher pressure inside the watch keep the water from seeping in?
  10. My girl can't quite pull off a 47mm watch: It's OK on me though.
  11. Thanks, I did try genuine springbars and the longer strap still popped out. I think the "hole" where the springbar goes is positioned a just a little bit too close to the end of the strap.
  12. I'm a big watch fan myself, I have to be with my wrists and hands. Here's a few to consider, assuming you already have a Planet Ocean Big Size and a PAM127 (or 217): Chopard GTXL (45mm) Superocean Heritage (46mm) Bell & Ross BR01 series (46mm square) These are big and have crown guards: Graham Chronofighter Audemars Piguet T3 Mont Blanc (I forget which model)
  13. You may have some form of ancient family curse....
  14. My order was accidentally split in half, I only got half the stuff I ordered and the Hublot box was one of the missing items. The supplier has admitted to the error, and they are sending the rest ASAP along with some Guangzhou freebies, but I suspect it will be at least another week before I get it.
  15. I joined four different replica watch forums around the same time, and RWG just "stuck" somehow. I'll try to describe why: 1) Intelligence--I know how difficult it can be to maintain a healthy forum atmosphere, and RWG has it. A core of intelligent, informed, polite, patient, and helpful members set the standard for others to join in the conversation in a way that actually contributes to the group. For that alone RWG is a great site; with mature, entertaining, and interactive content that never feels too restricted or over-moderated. 2) Passion--Not just people who know watches but people who LOVE them, and it's contagious. I grew up loving watches--having a high-tech gadget on my wrist was part of my daily escape into my imagination. My ordinary wristwatch was a communication device, radar, and high-powered laser weapon all in one--as long as no one was looking. As an adult my love of watches faded into the background, although I picked up a fashion watch here and there, even some that tempted the imagination (like the Fossil 007 watch) it was never more than a passing fancy. Even when I decided I wanted an Omega and was actively shopping for one, I didn't have my heart set on any watch. After a week or so on RWG, the reviews, comments, and photos on this site had me lusting after all kinds of watches. I don't think I would have ever discovered the timeless beauty of a historic PAM on a fine leather strap without this site. It may not have imaginary lasers, but it certainly sparks the imagination. 3) Community--Another hallmark of a great site. In the short time I've been here I've seen several selfless acts of kindness and generosity, people giving to the community and asking nothing in return. It's the kind of thing that makes you want to "pay it forward", both on- and off-line. I could go on all day, but the bottom line is that I'm hooked on this site. In all honesty, I just expected to join up, buy a couple of watches, and move on. It doesn't look like that could ever happen, there's just too much to talk about. Thanks!
  16. Aww shucks, I thought you had something sitting around the house to give away...I feel so special.
  17. Nice watch, I'm glad it finally showed up, the waiting can suck sometimes. If that's the 42mm, you probably shouldn't buy a UPO.
  18. It's just a different watch altogether, there is no serial number either. I think it would look nice on sharkskin.
  19. I like my Silix strap, but the gen does NOT have these seams running down the side from the mold it was cast in. They are more visible on the keepers, but apparent on the strap as well. Maybe they can be sanded off? Also, I'm curious what people have used (silicone?) to treat the rubber. It's not so much that it attracts dust, but the material itself has a dusty appearance unlike the smooth natural rubber Omega uses. Third, I tried all sorts of fatter spring bars and the bottom/longer strap still pops out at the case. The reason is not the bars, but there is not quite enough rubber "lip" to hold the bottom edge of the strap in place. The (inelegant but effective) solution was to stick a thin sliver of a folded up Post-It note between the lower edge of the strap and the case. It can't be seen, and it works, but it bugs me knowing it's there. Even with these issues it's a great strap, and as nice as the UPO bracelet is I won't be going back to it for a while--at least until QOS is out....
  20. Cold water, never personally tried that. In fact I do just the opposite--ever since high school I shave in the shower. It's awkward for some with no mirror but I just do it all by feel. Now when I shave at the sink it doesn't seem like I can get the same results, seems like the hot water and steam helps soften the hair? I have a hair trimmer specifically for the scalp, I think it's referred to as a "balder". It does an OK job, and it's rechargeable/waterproof, so it can also be used in the shower. Drying the safety razor right after use is much better than letting it air dry, you want to avoid the buildup of minerals from the tap water on the edge.
  21. My hair is very thick, but I don't think it is any tougher on my Mach 5 than my beard, I use the same razor for both. I was a little skeptical about the vibrating feature but it actually makes a big difference in shaving time/comfort. I don't shave my head regularly, let it grow for a week or so in between, then trim it with an electric trimmer set at zero before shaving. The type of shave cream/gel used makes a huge difference--I have tried every drugstore brand and the best (for me anyway, everybody's skin is different) is the Aveeno unscented gel. The Mach 5 blades last me several weeks each, I don't throw them out when the little strip wears off as it only takes one shave for that. I can tell pretty much immediately by feel when the blade starts to dull. There is a whole world of high-end shaving product out there--some day I will try a straight razor and some expensive soap but I'm a little wary of the learning process.
