  1. Who sells a ceramic case? This totally flew under my radar.
  2. This is the only way to fight price fixing. Well done.
  3. This page contains the relevant information; read the seventh post from the top. I think a lot of people knew this stuff was going on, but seeing in black and white how a $100-$250 knockoff becomes a $400-$600+ "super rep" with prices fixed among dealers rubs a thinking man the wrong way. A lot of people say "this is just how it's done" and even more say "I don't care if I'm getting reamed gimme some more super reps" but WE (the customers) are the ones with the power here, and we can put a stop to it. An interesting point was made, if the forums are such a small percentage of their business then why go to so much trouble trying to force a forum-only dealer to raise prices?
  4. That was really cool; I would have just bought $500 worth of raffle tickets but I think your way is better.
  5. I likes my whiskey neat and my watches impregnated.
  6. Now THAT'S what I'm talking about--great choice!
  7. I just download my HD content; I bought some front loading hard drive trays and a couple of 500gb SATAs; I DL the content on my desktop and swap the drives to my media center PC to play it. Some thoughts on this: You need a pretty decent processor to handle 1080 playback; I would suggest a low end core 2 duo. Almost any fairly new video card should work just fine. Use VLC or MPC to handle playback as they are the most efficient. Yes, the files are huge but I am usually getting several at once, after a while you will have more movies than you know what to do with anyway. There's always rapidshare and such if you are impatient.
  8. Mouth, here comes a foot!
  9. Not another typo.... It looks like you could use it to hold second helpings at the buffet.
  10. But why? Did they buy a $20,000 watch to copy it from? Would anyone even buy it if it was priced correctly at $250 or so?
  11. I love the field testing of expensive reps! My UPO was tested in a similar fashion; any non-chrono with screw-down crown should do fine but I don't think I would risk it again. I'm heading off to the pool and taking my Casio.
  12. No kidding, I don't remember those! Sorry for raising this post from the dead, but I was on the phone with my son the other day and he said he had fun at the "watch club".
  13. So the rose gold model is the same price; I don't get why these are so costly. Has anyone bought one yet?
  14. This is a good question--I really need to try on some gens before I decide. Even though I have a big wrist, I decided to stick to watches in the 44-46mm range, but I think the chrono dial of the Super might make it look less like a wall clock than a UBoat or Fiddy. I might even skip them both and get a BCE; something polished would round out my collection nicely. We should have a mini SoCal GTG at South Coast and check out the shops.
  15. Whoa, is THAT what my watch is supposed to look like? What a beauty! I love that bracelet. This watch has pretty much replaced the G-Shock for mountain biking and working out--it's more comfortable on my wrist and the chrono is much easier to engage. If it were waterproof I would never take it off. It's not a very striking watch, but up close the crosshatching and unusual finish attract attention. Once people get a closer look they are shocked that I would wear a Breitling to they gym, I just tell them I have a great warranty.
  16. That movie might not be for everyone, but I found it interesting.
  17. Funny. Duds is old fashioned slang for "clothes", but I don't think it works in the singular. A dud=a single article of clothing? A "dud" most commonly refers to a misfire, as in fireworks or ammunition.
  18. You guys are funny sometimes. Merchants have been cutting margins to increase volume since the dawn of human civilization; now one knockoff-hawker cuts his bloated retail price by $10 and it's "sabotage"? And if they aren't even from the same manufacturer, why should they have the same price tag? Every peddler of goods on the planet is trying to find the price point at which he makes the most profit, whether by selling more or charging more. Hooray for competition, and bring on some more.
  19. They have in the past, out of uniform and officially off duty of course. It's been done in planned high risk urban LE situations (drug raids, etc.) as a form of training for CQB. I have no idea if this is still practiced or if any record exists.
  20. A muffin top is better than a spare tire. Just get some looser pants! Also, I think the WET channel is another name for PBS.
  21. When I was 9 or 10 my uncle was cleaning out his old room at my grandparent's house, and he gave me a dusty box full of paperbacks from his youth. Among the spy thrillers was an almost complete set of the adventures of Doc Savage, a pulp superhero from the '30s that I had never heard of. I must have read every one of those books three times.
  22. Forget putting it in the bank, I would wear that sucker. I imagine letting it slip from under your cuff at the right moment would be intimidating at the table.
  23. I've been wanting a Breitling, specifically a titanium 44mm model on a bracelet, so I thought I would try this one out from Jay. It arrived quickly, as always. Pros: Solid titanium Nice purple/blue fake AR tint Reliable and accurate (quartz) Cool looking pushers and crown Lightweight and comfortable Cons: Mineral glass Flaws a-plenty (dial, subdials, bezel, pearl, datewheel, quartz, etc.) Bracelet (inner edges of links are rounded instead of sharp) Paint on numerals is sloppy I'm sure that the dealer would replace this for the bad dial paint, but I'm actually OK with it. You wouldn't wear it to Tourneau, but it's fine for a daily beater--how many people (in the real world) really care whether the 4 on your bezel is open or closed? I'd also like the non-chrono version if anyone knows who sells it. Recommended.
  24. First off, congratulations on your results. You're right, I do want to gain muscle as well as lose fat--which I think is a lot more challenging than doing either separately. I could post my "before" photo but I'm not too proud of it--I'll post it when I have a decent looking "after" pic; hopefully in the next few weeks. Here's a start, after 3 weeks: I'm about 6'1", and weigh around 260 down from 265 in the first photo. EAS and my company were both purchased by the same corporation, so I get their products for very little cost. Dieting is a challenge for me and I'll be content with losing the fat slowly and steadily, as long as I continue to gain muscle.
