Hi all, brand spankin' new to the forum / realm of reps in general and am looking to narrow down a search for a small-ish chronograph. I've got some serious stick wrists (~6.25") and am having a trouble finding something 38mm or under, which is where I typically have to draw the cut-off line. Not looking for something terribly fancy or luxurious; I definitely prefer a simpler look. Think Tag Heuer Carrera circa 1960, IWC Pilots, Rolex Pre-Daytona, Zenith El Primero Classic. Those are all a bit out of my size range, so hoping to mine the vast knowledge on display here for any recommendations. Generally fonder of dark dials but am learning very quickly that unsubstantiated pickiness probably won't get me very far. Open to anything and everything. And hey, if nothing turns up, I'll just sell a kidney and pick up a gen Carrera 1964 re-edition... A million thanks!

Hi guys, Need your advice/opinion. I am planning to buy the Cartier Santos XL 100 Chronograph. Checked couple of TDs and noted that Trusty time is selling for 428 . Trusty time claims that their watch has a superior movement than the one which is being offered by Mary.on the looks of it, they appear to be the same to me but may be i am missing something. I can see that both has the Asia 7753 movement with the same 28800bph but trusty has also claimed that it is the exact copy of the Swiss 7753 movement. Does this mean it is different. Need an expert's opinion please. Can some one please clarify or suggest which one to buy? Mary also offered free shipping... making it more price reasonable. Dear RWG members, Please excuse my ignorance as we are new to this forum and there is much we don't know. My stepson and I have decided to embark on a personal project to create a limited edition custom watch. We have access to a fabrication lab with state of the art 5 axis CNC's, 3D printing, spacecraft raw materials and plating. However, this lab will only be used to create prototypes and one of a kind watches In the end, despite our limited edition, we need to source movements and other parts from a reputable overseas maker of watch parts. In addition, we will need this dealer to assemble the watches. Can anyone guide us to the best dealer for such a project? Someone who can machine custom dials, cases and buttons for us? Someone who can source reliable mechanical movements that will not break down in a couple of years? Thank you, J&A

I'm thinking about rolex daytona recently. What is your opinion on A7750 with working chronos? I know it's 2,5mm thicker than a gen. My PAM is 14mm and it's already massive not to mention smaller rollie. To be honest new 13mm daytona made of 904 looks really amazing! I know it has frozen chronos due to 4130 but it's quite slim. What's your opinion on this one? I'd like to hear from someone with 7750 daytona Thanks!

Hi AP'ers, I have been reading around, seeing "Scratch Magnet" as a common way to describe the Chronopassion. What do you guys think? What have you experienced? Is the Chronopassion really a watch to be handled with silk gloves and worn under a shirt only made of silk? Looking forward to hearing your opinions... -
Hi guys, so ever since being into watches, Ive always loved the IWCs. The other day though, it hit me. Damn, APs are cool, and Jesus do they look good! Why did I never see that? Now Im here and am about to pull a trigger on an AP ROO. But which one? This one? Or this one? I have never been in contact with AP before, (and yes, I regret it), so I am asking the AP Experts in this forum, the following questions: 1. Which one would you choose? 2. How do they differ (except for the colour and the case material & finish, of course) 3. And which one is closer to the genuine? It seems to me as if the "asymmetry" Ive been reading everywhere is less prominent on the first Black Theme watch than on the second Grey one. As per my questions, you can see that I have no Idea (yet) about APs, so thank you all for helping me!

Hi guys, attached is a photo of the dial of a rep 3799. It is a QC Picture, and I'm worried that the dial is not "aligned" or "straight". Take a note of the positions of the "11", the triangle, the "1", "5" and "7" as well as the rectangular markers at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions. They don't seem to be quite aligned to the actual watch case itself and seem to be slightly left... These are pictures, not from any scam site, but have been sent to me after my order to check the quality of the watch. Ordered from tswatchltd already before, never had an issue like this (or any issue at all, actually). Would appreciate some quick opinions, so i can get back to Mark. PS. By no means do i want to criticize Mark or tswatchltd. I have only made great experiences with them. Its just that the dial of this watch just seems off-set PPS. The pictures are small, but I hope they are enough to be analysed. They were sent to me in no higher resolution than posted below. Thanks!

Hi all, I just got the package with the IW3799 in the mail today- excited, of course, as all of you have already experienced Upon opening and inspecting, all "cosmetic" aspects were more (better) than expected. However, the chronograph seems to have a problem. It starts/stops wonderfully, however, when trying to reset- it won't budge (that is, the chronograph seconds hand). Only after trying multiple times, of course not forcefully, but with different amounts of pressure, does the second hand indeed reset. It also sometimes jumps backwards a few "seconds" on the dial when resetting, as if it were stuck and/or the pusher does not quite contact to the appropriate parts. I am not one of the experts in respect to rep. (asian) movements, and so, I really need the help of those of you out there that are. Has anyone seen this "phenomenon"? Is it simply a case of poor movement oiling, or is this a real hardware problem? The chrono is resetted at the moment, will it prove fatal if I use it again? On another note, if this is something that can be only solved with a completely new movement, is there a possibility that I use the A7750 Valjoux movement on a rep. PAM Chrono and simply switch movements? (seeing as there is no "hours" chromo sundial on the Pam- I hope I assume correctly that the function is just not displayed on the dial). Thanks a lot for your help!

Here's another blast from the past... A rare Santos 100 chrono with ETA 7753 with the date adjustment on the case side opposite that of the crown. Amazing rep, as close as it gets, matched up with a gen strap.. I can't remember if the buckle is gen (it's a few years since I got it) but it feels great! This rep is discontinued. Indeed, I believe all the ETA 7753 reps are discontinued these days and impossible to find.. guess I should keep hold of this and the modded PAM 188 and 196s eh? Hi all, As many of you might have already encountered, I'm torn between the 3789 and the 3799 (If I got the numbering correct, thats between the simple and double chronographs of the TG Series). My Ideas on this are as following: 1. Of course, the 3799 speaks for itself- just looks amazing, the biggest asset is, although its biggest giveaway- the faux 10oclock pusher. (Does anybody know whether these are spring loaded on the 7750 Valjoux movements?)- since it is faux, it might after all work as a proper pusher! 2. The 3789 is less of a giveaway, since the chronograph will work on the 7750. (not as beautiful, but still a TG). What worries me, is that all I can find are the versions of this watch in which the seconds are situated at the 9'oclock position, whereas the (newest?) version of the TG Chrono have eliminated the chronograph-hours sundial completely and replaced it with the seconds subdial. Is the version with the complete set of dials (seconds, chromo-minutes/hours) at the 9, 12 and 6 o'clock positions respectively, an older IWC version or has it never existed- and is only like that to compensate the fact that the valjoux 7750 displays its seconds at the 9oclock position? I hope you can follow my line of thoughts- any help or advice, or even a push in one direction would be of great appreciation! Best Regards

Hi Guys, I was wondering if there would be any demand in getting a set of casebacks custom made for the 3714 portuguese chronograph model, and engrave them with individual serial numbers as what Jakob has done for Panerai models The 3714, I have noted, is immensely popular and is available as a pretty good rep, that is with most of its flaws fixed by getting genuine parts - such as the movement, dial & handset, crown, tachy bezel. While there are options to AR the crystal, and fix the caseback with a brushed look, there seems to be no method in sourcing genuine cases or casebacks (even through concepta or hacra). However, the case, I have noticed, is very accurate and only needs to be modded if transplanting a genuine movement. The caseback however, is quite a different story, and remains etched with the same dead giveaway serial number which is an IMMEDIATE tell. The best I can think of is to order a set of custom-made casebacks and get them engraved with individual serial numbers, and I am wondering what the demand will be like should I start with such a project. Any thoughts? Cheers!

Hi, Venus 170 movement Does anyone can tell me some information about the Venus 170 chronograph movement ? (also named "Up and Down chronograph") I've heard it's a high end movement used back in the 40-60s by companies such as breitling and other top brands. I've heard it's beats slow (18,000 if i'm not mistaken), and that it is a workhorse movement. For how much do these vintage chronographs go for (in $$$) ? I'm interested in information since I have a chance to pick up one of these and i'm quite interested, but dont know much about it. Any info will be much appreciated. Many thanks! Db1

I bought a Transocean Chrono with a quartz movement a few months back. Basically I want to know if I could swap out the quartz movement for an A7750. Possible or not?

Hi guys, as some may of already read in the link below, I received my Tag Heuer Carrera Chrono today from Trevor, and promised in that thread I would post some eye candy of the watch, and share with you my impressions of this timepiece.. For those who have yet to read it, here's the TD Review of my buying experience from Trevor. The watch came very well packaged, and 11 days from payment to wrist. http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/157299-first-purchase-from-trevor-and-delighted-with-my-watch/ Onto the watch. This is the Tag Heuer Carrera Chronograph Automatic rep with sec@9, and fully functional chronograph. It's the plain black dial model, with black bezel, stainless steel bracelet, and see-thru case back. I was already well informed on the flaws of this rep (thanks to the many of you who have shared their experiences with this model, and reviews of it), and I have to say, although knowing of them did not put me off my purchase at all, as I really loved the look of this rep. Kind of reminded me on an old Swatch I had many moons ago, but better Upon receiving the watch, it had all its protective covering on, the bracelet, dial, bezel, and back case all were protected. My first impressions of opening the package was wow, just wow, what a beautiful watch, it reaps of quality, weight solid feel, and certainly has prescence on the wrist. Talking of which, the bracelet needs a link removing as it wears a little loose for my liking, so if anyone would like to share on a good pin removal tool, that would be great. In case you are unaware of the flaws/tells of this model Tag, they are as follows.. 1. The letter G of the name TAG on the dial above the day/date window is missing it's pointy arrows that the gen has. 2. Blue screws in the movement are visible through the case back window. Gen are silver screws. 3. The rotor of the movement has the incorrect amount of bevels engraved, two or three less than gen. 4. The red paint used on the tips of the chronograph big hand, and the smaller hands of the 6&9 sub-dials are a darker red colour than gen, the gen is more of a bright blood red. Given the above flaws/tells, as said earlier, these alone did not put me off buying this rep, its stunning in the flesh, and my photos below simpley don't do it justice. The bracelet, and clasp are of great, solid quality, with a positive click fasten and unfasten of it's clasp. Good engravings. Anyway, I have a bad habit of rambling on, especially about something I have passion for, and that is watches. Ok ok, I hear ya! Onto the eye candy. I tried to capture this watch as well as I could for you all, sorry about the smudges etc, enjoy, and thanks for reading/looking. -
Opinions on Quarts Chrono Movement Reps Guys - need your opinions and input. I have an empty spot in the watch case and was looking for a nice representation of a Chronograph using the Japanese Quarts Movement. The watch winder is full up. Been looking at some but would greatly appreciate other options and opinions Here is what I have been looking at and my opinions. Omaga Planet Ocean Chrono - 2 Sub Dials in Blue, w/date at 6 O'clock. ( Issues Date looks a little small and the 3,6 & 9 markers are a little long) - But a nice piece! IWC Aqua Timer Chrono 2009 Black Dial & Black w/Yellow Bezel all SS including Bracelet ( Issues the 12,3,6,& 9 markers look a little long) - This is my top choice so far! Chopard Gran Turismo XL Chrono Mille Miglia - (Sub Dials are not correct to original) - Like the looks of the watch ...but! Breitling TransOcean Unitime or Navitimer - I know nothing about Breitling! I am a little picky on the face of the watch it should be as accurate as possible, but knowing these are Quarts movements the backs might be slightly different. SS or leather bracelets are my preference - rubber or plastic is a hard sell! My budget is $150 us plus or minus.

So I recently bought my first rep, a Montblanc Timewalker Chrono (A7753), and I notice a few things that I wondered if a servicing of the movement would help. Firstly, The large chronograph seconds hand is not very smooth. It seems as if it hitches and jumps instead of sweeping. (Might need to compare with another rep to make sure I'm not being unreasonable) Secondly, the hands on the two chronograph sub dials do not always reset to zero and do not align flush with the markers. Thirdly, the hand of the 30min sub dial moves about 3-4 seconds before the seconds hand reaches 12. Also, the Chronograph start/stop button is also very hard to press and is loud when clicked. Would servicing the movement correct these issues?

Hey guys! At my local mall there's a Montblanc boutique, and for long duration since the store has been opened, I really had no reason to go inside (I had previously bought a Montblanc pen online). The other day I took a stroll inside and I discovered that Montblanc made watches as well! One of the ladies who worked there noticed that I was staring at a timewalker inside the glass casing and asked if I wanted to take a look at one. My god, when she put it on my wrist, I just fell in love with it . I'm a poor college student and I honestly probably can't afford a gen unless I somehow run into a lot of money. I currently have an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean, a black dial Rolex Submariner, and an Audemars 15300ST White (all reps). I was wondering, for those who own or have owned Montblanc timewalker reps, which one is favorite and/or closest to a gen?

Everybody is saying don't buy Breitling TransOcean Chronograph, but I'm not sure why? I was looking this one, and I love the way it looks: http://www.timeshops.net/11701-br0190fo-breitling-transocean-1884-white-dial-ss-lt-asian-7750-28800bph.html I know that datewheel isn't working and Asia Valjoux 7750 isn't best movement out there, but is there something more? I only have one replica and few gen watches, so okey I'm newbie (honestly), but I really appreciate all of your replies. Thank you.

Hi there, I'm looking for a good OOB chronograph to add to my small, microscopic even, collection. I'm looking for something that will not need any obvious mods and has a reliable movement. Currently Ebel 1911 is high on my list , as well as the Radiomir 288K, which is almost the only Panerai I like (I'm not sure what I like about - the design or the fact that it's an accurate rep), but I'm seeking advise as to what is considered to be a good chronograph from the latest dealer's models range. Any advise will be highly appreciated

Good people of RWG, I have recently been told that the movement in my IWC Top Gun (Asian Valjoux 7750) is knackered and needs replacing. Problems began when the watch stopped (for no reason) while on the watch winder; to overcome this I started manually handwinding the movement … This worked OK for a few weeks, until one day (whilst hand winding) the noise and feeling inside (sorry for lack of technical terminology) went from a pleasant smooth feel, to a nasty internal ‘crunching’. At this point it was game over … into the repairers, where I was handed the bad news. The joys of rep ownership eh? Boo! So, I’ve bitten the bullet, and decided to go ahead with a brand new movement, fully serviced and pressure tested. What I now need to know is when the watch is returned to me, how I can prevent a similar situation occurring in the future? I have heard all sorts of stuff & frankly, I don’t know what to believe (e.g. don’t change the day / date between the hours of 10-2; avoid sudden ‘jerky’ wrist movements (ha, ha!); don’t use the chrono function (which seems weird to me, as surely that’s one of the joys of chrono ownership!) etc etc.) In short, (and I have read previous posts on the subject) … What’s the score when it comes to 7750’s? Should they be handled like spider webs or are they as robust as regular (non chrono movements)? Lets set the record straight once and for all. well hello on this lazy hazy sunday...around a week ago i posted my first topic to say hey and got a fabulous welcome from alot of like minded people on this forum-i then promised more pics of my collection by friday...but work had other ideas-so two days late here be my pics! apologies for some fuzzy-ness, its sunday, im still half asleep etc etc but you get the idea! hope you like and please post yours too with some words about your watches-always good to talk all things time is it not?! when im more awake and have more free time i'll try and get round to writting some specific reviews of the pieces i own to hopfully add to an already healthy community of information. the longines and rotary are gens, the orange 45 planet ocean is a franken with gen dial, hands and bezel, the 42 planet ocean has had a smaller He valve crown added for a more proportionate look. enjoy! -
Hello All, I have just received my most talked about TAG Carerra Calibre 16 Day-Date Chronograph. Have been enjoying its beauty and craftsmanship. However to actually flaunt the inners, I need to know how to really use the chronograph functions. What are probable situations for its use, what are the markings and how is the external bezel tachymeter used in measuring velocity and distance. Does it has some use in combination with the chronograph. My understanding is that I know that chronograph can be activated/reset by the push buttons on 2" and 4" o clock, but they only activate the large seconds hand (with red tip). With each complete round of the second's hand the 12 o clock sub dial (which is 30 minutes chrono marker) advances by one minute and the 6 o clock subdial should advance by one each hour. How can I reset or align the small chrono sub-dials at 12 and 6 o clock. Right now they are running out of sync with the main timing clock. Do they keep running even when the chrono functions is not activated by the push button at 2 o clock. I hope I am able to make myself clear, I need an article, guidance or a bible of chronograph functions and how they are supposed to be used in this watch. Would be an excellent resource for the general understanding of all of us. Thanks for your response.
