Hey,
I recently got a Tag Aquaracer Chronograph from Mary. Here are a few (bad) pics, taken with my phone, and my initial thoughts about the watch.
The dial looks excellent. The model I bought is in black, so there are no issues with colour being off compared to the gen. The TAG logo is imperfect, but this is pretty well-known flaw (the 'G' lacks the arrow seen on the gen). The date can look at little crooked at times. I haven't owned many replicas, but I would imagine the lume is below average. After 'charging' it holds luminosity for a couple of minutes before returning to a pretty dull state, visible, but just barely, in darkness.
The case seems generally solid. The links were VERY hard to remove. My plastic resizer wasn't enough to resize the bracelet so I had to entrust this job to a watchmaker, and even he took the best part of 15 minutes to resize the bracelet. Compared to the gen pics i've seen, the bracelet looks very well replicated. The bezel and buttons are also excellent reproductions. There is one notable exception with regards to the, generally well replicated, case: the engravings on the caseback (see pic below)
As you can see above, the 'diver helmet' engraving lacks the detail of the gen. It almost looks as if it's been sanded or filed down in places. Also, the engraved wording around the 'diver helmet' is inked in black, whereas on the gen the wording is simply engraved with no ink. I believe the ink is easily removable though. Compare with a pic of a genuine case back I found:
Other engravings are fine with no discernable difference from the genuine, to my untrained eye.
The case is pretty thick, but I like them that way. Operationally, the rep works fine but the buttons can be a little dodgy. Maybe this just comes with the territory of Asian 7750 movements, as my rep Seamaster is the same. The 'start' button is sticky at times and depresses with a 'pop' and can take a few seconds to return to it's normal position. The 'reset' button is springy, and there is no audible 'pop' or 'click' when I press it. Time and date functions seem to be working fine.
I realise all this has been covered before, but I just thought I'd post my own personal thoughts on this replica.
Regards,
G
