Curt941 Posted October 31, 2014 Report Posted October 31, 2014 Doing a 16613 build with a gen mid case. I bought this dial: The hour surrounds have an amazing patina on them. Any idea how I could do this to a set of hands without waiting 20 years?
Curt941 Posted October 31, 2014 Author Report Posted October 31, 2014 The title should have said "AGING" not again!
dbane883 Posted October 31, 2014 Report Posted October 31, 2014 Sodium thiosulfate + copper acetate + citric acid + water Immerse until desired patina is reached Your local jewellers supply store may have ready-made thiosulfate-based patinizing solution.
Curt941 Posted October 31, 2014 Author Report Posted October 31, 2014 Would that strip the lume off a set of gen hands?
dbane883 Posted October 31, 2014 Report Posted October 31, 2014 Would that strip the lume off a set of gen hands? no...Certainly not the Superluminova hands.. Not sure about tritium... I doubt it because there is no solvent agent. But it will probably cause some discoloration. Ive tried to strip SL off gen hands before, and even acetone will not dissolve it.
Curt941 Posted October 31, 2014 Author Report Posted October 31, 2014 (edited) Mike, I think I wouldn't mind having lume on the hands. If I could age the hands with Super Lume to look like the hour markers, that would be pretty cool. Going for vintage/modern blend. Curt I may have them in tritium Hell, I'm half considering doing this as a total fantasy build and going with a stainless bezel and normal insert for a "Modern Bond" gilt submariner look.
