Rolex 1530 variation.

After a little research I found out that Rolex made the 1530 in a few different variations, it's stated by a few that they made a 17 jewel 1530 for the American market to avoid import duty, the only difference I'm aware of is the auto mechanism which has bushings instead of jewels, which makes no sense to me as these "jewels" are not classed as precious stones, so who was kidding who, or am I completely daft? Why would that effect import duty so badly?

Also I've seen quite a few of the 1530 caliber disassembled and never ran into one with the train bridge engraved and can't find any other internet pictures of one.

Why engrave the plate 17j when it's the auto mechanism that's the jewel count difference?

Bleh im confused   Or missing something?

hoping someone can explain :)
