Some Very Newbie Q On Panerai

Hello Panerai gang,

I'm new here and have very little knowledge about Panerai watches, however I found the Panerai is a very interesting design and they start to glow on me. As I see more Pam on the board I got more questions, I hope you guys can help me to understand the Pam more by asking here.

What is Swan neck? can you tell me how to find/ID the neck ?

Why some model like Pam 111 have a "H" next to it? what is the different?

Is there only 2 movement in the Pam (non-chron) Swiss Unitas 697 and Asia unitas 6697 ?

I see there's color screw inside the movement do they means anything? Can I tell what movement the watch has by the color of the screw?

which one is more easy to mod (both parts and labor) if compare Pam to Rolex and Omega ?

you have many time?...so i will answer all your questions

no no friend... please ask 1 or 2 qestions and not so much. You can´t learn all about watches in 1 day. You must read here on forum long time like all other users and you will know more and more... day by day

but i will answer some of your questions short

1. swan neck is a very exclusive version of movement regulator. It is a sign of a valuable movement. The regulator looks like the neck from a swan (sorry for my poor english ) ....look pic 1 + 2

2. H is the serial of the panerai watches. Panerai build all years new models in a limited edition. Last models are the H-Serie models. This H models have some modification against older G or E Serie watches as cotes de geneve, sandwich dial etc.

3. panerai replica has also ETA automatic movement and some different versions of Unitas caliber (asian, swiss, with swan neck, without swan neck etc etc etc)

4. the screws on decorated movements are mostly blue. That looks better. But the screws on Replic watches are only blue color... on genuine SWISS movements are the screws blued steel. Blued steel is VERY EXPENSIVE. Exist also blued steel hands set, but they cost 5 time more as blue color hands.

Is all Genuine Panerai equipped with the Swan neck regulator ?

Is the size of H series same as other series ?

what/where is the cannon pin?

what is the meaning of a recessed cannon pin?

The cannon pin is the center pin on the watch dial that holds the hands in. On many reps this pin is recessed which those who are in the know will identify it as a rep right away. This can be corrected by a number of guys who do repair here on the RWG board.

The H series is the same size as the others. However some rep models will vary slightly in size.

Not all gen Panerais have a swan neck regulator. Many do but different movements have been used to make pams over the years.
