piratedzeus
Hey RWG!, The SMP was always my favorite watch. Too bad that after all the years there is no close rep available! So! A project for me! What would be the best start for a accurate smp? Is there any chance to get correct a case with correct HE valve placement? Gen dial is like 80euro... can be bought... i could also could relume the dial ... but it needs all the markers and good waves and good printing of course.. Gen hands are very cheap and could be bought if needed... I have a bracelet that uses pins... Insert... aftermarket insert are available from 16$ if needed... -- It should be as cheap as possible as if it would get too expensive it is not worth it as the gen is not that expensive.. Open for ideas, offers, critics! Edited April 16, 2007 by piratedzeus
r11co
Over on old RWG someone attempted a similar project using a case from the 21J black faced Asian model that had the correct He valve placement, but there were too many other discrepancies in the case that made the project non-viable (bezel fitting and click spring design completely different, bezel insert didn't fit, caseback screw incompatible etc. etc.) The most viable rep option for correct He valve placement is the ST-18 '007' rep, but anyone who has one isn't going to part with it readily. Next best option would be to source a 2824 standard SMP rep from about 2 years ago and hope to acquire a genuine case for not too much money then transfer everything over as it should fit no problems. That would produce a 99.999% (as opposed to 99%) accurate SMP.
spa
This one's case would be correct for the 2531.80 rep (i hope you speak about the same watch)... (image taken from dealer's site JUST for reference!) I've thought myself to purchase one, take off the case (w/crystal) and crown, and put my 2531.80's in there... Didn't do it so far... EDIT: Note that my SMP 2531.80 and the rep pictured are both using ETA 2824 (or claimed so... ) Edited April 17, 2007 by spa

LOL, really? Forget my idea then ... It should work well in the genuine market, not well at all in the rep i guess Tnx for sharing your information R11! From my experience and from what I read on this forum lately, the latest SMP reps have terrible dials. Better to update with a gen dial and hands than relume a not so good rep dial. Most aftermarket inserts seems to be very different than the gen...
