mastmampf Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 Hello at all, i have bought a Chrono Avenger Ti from Andrew a few weeks ago (see photos below). It is from the 2. generation with the ugly sapphir crystal (without AR coat). But i also own the SS version with the good Sapphir crystal (with AR coat). Is it possible to change the sapphir crystals from one watch to the other? Are there any dealer out there who still sells the 1. Generation Chrono Avenger Ti or the 2. Generation wit AR coat on the crystal? Is Joshuas version the same model as Andrews? Regards Matz
Watchmeister Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 You certainly should be able to change over the crystal from one to the other. Of course, to get at it you have to take off the caseback and remove the movement. As this one is a chrono you would have to be careful removing the crown and pushers. As to the question on availability of first generation ti CA's the simple answer is no other than from a current owner. Just look for the open 4's on the bezel. They do come up for sale. Also if you love the watch and have the budget the gen's often come up everywhere and you can find them for $2,200 or less.
poopypants Posted January 20, 2008 Report Posted January 20, 2008 Chrono Avenger Ti: where to buy the best version you can buy my gen @ a smokin' deal! $1300 off original price! Black dial with Ti ProII bracelet.
mastmampf Posted January 21, 2008 Author Report Posted January 21, 2008 Hello, thanks for the help. I think i will try to change the sapphir crystal from my SS Chrono Avenger, but no by myself. Regards Matz
ta8088 Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 (edited) Hello, thanks for the help. I think i will try to change the sapphir crystal from my SS Chrono Avenger, but no by myself. Regards Matz You could just get the AR done on it by K2222 or Chieftang. Edited January 28, 2008 by TA8088
mastmampf Posted January 28, 2008 Author Report Posted January 28, 2008 @ TA8088 thanks for helping but the problem that still remains after AR coating is that the sapphir crystal has this ugly warped effect when looking on it from the side. I have emailed Andrew my problem today and he will send me an AR coated sapphir crystal from the SS Chrono Avenger version for about 60$. Regards Matz
bwhitesox Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 I have a franken Super Avenger and my Crystal is exactly the same..Hoping to find a better one as well.
takashi Posted January 31, 2008 Report Posted January 31, 2008 be careful that crystal may not be interchangeable. I have tried to deal with the bezel and gave up. They have different dimension (1st gen vs 2nd gen) for the bezel alone. Chances are the crystal may have slight variation too.
mastmampf Posted January 31, 2008 Author Report Posted January 31, 2008 Hello takashi, unfortunatelly it`s too late now, i have already ordered an AR coated sapphir crystal of the SS Chrono Avenger model from Andrew. I will post the result here as soon as it arrived. Regards Matz
takashi Posted January 31, 2008 Report Posted January 31, 2008 Well, good luck. I really hope you can get it sorted. Please let us know. I am pretty interested on the results too.
mastmampf Posted February 22, 2008 Author Report Posted February 22, 2008 Hello again, so i just wanted to let you know that it is impossible to change the anti reflective sapphir crystal from an SS Chrono Avenger to an Ti Avenger. The sapphir on the Ti version is a bit too small in diameter. Regards Matz
HauteHippie Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 @ TA8088 thanks for helping but the problem that still remains after AR coating is that the sapphir crystal has this ugly warped effect when looking on it from the side. I have emailed Andrew my problem today and he will send me an AR coated sapphir crystal from the SS Chrono Avenger version for about 60$. Regards Matz Interesting. I have a discontinuted old case Ti Avenger (not chronograph, but presumably the same size crystal?) and there is no warped effect. I know what you're talking about, though. I've seen that effect on poorly manufactured rep crystals - some Omega SMPs are an example that come to mind. BTW, let me know the diameter and thickness you need.
takashi Posted February 22, 2008 Report Posted February 22, 2008 Yes... Like he said. 1. Gen and 2. Gen crystal are not interchangeable. Second gen has this bottle effect on the crystal.
mastmampf Posted February 24, 2008 Author Report Posted February 24, 2008 @ chieftang the crystal measures 32mm in diameter and 1,33mm in thickness (thickness measured on the edge of the crystal). Regards Matz
