pilotwatch Posted March 18, 2008 Report Share Posted March 18, 2008 In true idiot noob fashion my hand slipped when adjusting the regulator on my Rolex GMT Master II Asian 21J. I mangled the hairspring and sent the movement to rep hell. The first thing I need is some help identifying the movement: pictures are below. Does anyone know where these can be purchased? Ofrei? Also are there any secrets I should know about replacing the movement? I know this probably isn't a great idea for someone so green in the rep world but the watch was fairly cheap and to send it out would cost more than the replacement. geyper man Posted March 18, 2008 Report Share Posted March 18, 2008 I think it's a cheap chinese movement (japan miyota 8205 copy) with a GMT adjustable hand instead a day dial. I got one on the *Bay from seller seiko-pro; just search GMT Automatic Movement at $14.99. A miyota 8205 movement is a best quality option (available from cousinsuk.com) but you'll need some custom work fitting GMT 4th hand module on it. The ebay search is indeed the exact same movement for what seems to be a fairly hefty sum. The Miyota from cousinsuk is fairly close in price and so if it is more reliable I might want to go that route. Do you know what kind of custom work would be needed and whether it's something that can easily be done? EDIT: Is this the same movement or one that would work? Miyota ones are there: http://www.ofrei.com/page625.html#19232 http://www.cousinsuk.com/catalog/4/158/1942.aspx (search for a 8205) The job is to replace daywheel and gears in the original movement for the gears and plate on top of your damaged movement (where fits the GMT 4th hand). I really don't know if that is an easy swap or you'll need some hard work on the main plate of the movement to fit GMT module screws... where is The Zigmeister to help us???
