How to store watches when not wearing for some time?

I have a rollie dj rep with automatic Swiss eta 2824 movement which does not get too much wrist time.Should I unwind the crown or is it better to keep the watch running as much as possible? also is it possible to manually wind this watch by winding the crown as opposed to wearing it and moving around with it?

Yes you can wind it. No there is no reason to keep it running. And no there should be no difference whether the crown is open or close except that there is always a slight chance that dirt can get in easier to an open crown.
