Chaotik Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 What's involved exactly when performing AR coating on a crystal ? is it a difficult and delicate operation like luming for example? Do you need expensive equipment / material ? Just curious... I mean a lot of people wait weeks to get it done in the next batch, pay shipping fees and whatever else.. I'm thinking is it that difficult to do ? Sorry if this was covered already. Search function seems kaput for me anyway... Thanks guys. Chaotik
Guest avitt Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 IFAIK, there is no way to do AR coating at home. To get the quality of coating that is required for a watch crystal requires materials and equipment which are specialized and quite expensive. The best coatings use patented procedures. Like PVD coating, this is best left to the professionals....
bruce79 Posted May 2, 2008 Report Posted May 2, 2008 Ditto that, AR application is not a DYI process. Chief can elaborate more but I think it involves heating a powder and the crystal to a very high temperature...and a bunch of other stuff... Trust me, there is a reason folks wait months to get their watches ar'd...it's quite the process but the results are amazing.
