doc savage
I bought this watch with known out-of-the-box movement problems, expecting to send it to a pro to have it serviced. It has a tendency to only run for 5-20 minutes with the crown pushed in, but starts right back up when you pull it out. Today, I am suddenly unable to set the time--with the crown guard released and the crown as far out as it will go, turning it still winds the watch. I don't know that much about movements, but it almost feels like it was installed too "deep", causing both issues. Any suggestions?
RWG Technical
Both issues should not be related. The problem right now is that the set lever screw, the one that holds the stem in place is loose, opening the caseback you can easily tighten it and fix that issue. If the stem is too long it could cause it to stop running when the CG lever presses it in place, but only if the movement is moving and jamming up... the CG lever should be snug, not tight with little pressure on the crown, if your breaking fingernails opening the CG, then you have a problem. doc savage
Thanks! The set screw was definitely loose, tightened it up and the time can be set normally. The CG seems to be putting very little pressure on the crown when it's locked, I think it's just tight enough so that nothing wobbles. How would I find out if the stem is too long? Ok on the set lever screw. As for the stem, if the lever is just snug as you say, it should be fine...as for why the movement is stopping, very hard to diagnose without being able to handle and troubleshoot the actual watch. doc savage
It ran for six hours last night with the CG locked--a huge improvement. I'm definitely taking it to a pro, but I'm curious to see if it runs longer with the CG unlocked.
