A6497: Can only set time, cannot wind. Please help

So I uncased the A6497 in one of my pams to remove the AR on the crystal...something I've done many times before. When I went to insert the stem back into the movement, after tightening the screw the tiny screw that secures the stem into the movement, I cannot wind the watch. The crown is in the wind position but advances the hands instead of winding the movement. Usually you have to pull the crown out and push it back in to engage the winding mech (don't know the term) but I cannot pull the crown out far enough. I don't want to yank on it and risk breaking the stem off. Is there anyone here that can offer any insight? I've never seen this one before.

Are you sure the stem is all the way in? Release the stem screw one or two more turns and try to stick it all the way in. Then tighten it. Then move it into the setting time position and push it back in and try to wind it.

I'll try unscrewing the screw a little more but as it is now the screw holds the stem in and will not allow me to pull it out. Thanks for your response.

If the stem screw is too tight you will have a difficult time putting it into the set time position. In this case just turn it 1/4 to 1/2 turn and retry.
