I tried to swap the movement in a noob sub to a DG4183 after damaging the keyless works in the original movement. It was a total [censored] up and the new movement was damaged. After a month or so break, I decided to have another go and ordered a new DG2183 from Cousins UK.

All seemed to go OK, but on fixing the hands, I noticed that they were a little bent. Tried to straighten them and all seemed OK. Watch reassembled, appeared to be working OK and keeping good time.

The following day I noticed that the second hand was a little loose and was slipping back if the watch was tilted. I have taken the hands off and tried to refix with no joy. I cannot get the second hand to fix on firmly.

Is the Cousins movement the right one for the noob sub?

Have I damaged the second hand and need a replacement?

I see that Cousins sell a set of different types of sub hands for popular Chinese movements. Are these likely to be a better fit?

Any help would be appreciated.

The diameter of the seconds hand pin from Cousins might be too small. I had the same thing happen to me (based on similar experiences to you), and purchased yet another movement. Now, the seconds hand does not slip anymore.

Try a test setting back on your original movement and see if it still fits tight. If it does, then it is your movement. If it is loose like your new movement, then it is your seconds hand.

With further tinkering, I have now snapped the second hand, so need some replacements anyway.

The description on their site is that the hands fit popular Chinese movements, so hopefully they will fit.

It would have worked out cheaper just to by a new noob sub, however, I would have missed out on the frustration and hopefully eventual satisfaction, if I can get the thing to work properly.
