DuDro Posted October 2, 2007 Report Share Posted October 2, 2007 Need some help... The movement was running fine when I had the watch disassembled with the crown and stem in place. I "re-cased" the movement and inserted the crown and stem, and now it does not run. I can wind the watch with the stem pulled out to the 1st position. I can advance the date wheel with the crown in the 2nd position; and I can change the time with the crown in the 3rd position. The rotor spins freely as well and I can hear it winding, but still not running...Any thoughts on what could be the preventing the watch from running? Could something in the "keyless works" be keeping the movement in "hack" mode? Please share your thoughts on this...Thanks in advance! Sometimes this happens to me, all i do it gently touch the side of the balance wheel and kind of nudge it and it starts up again. BE WARNED THAT IM NOT RESPONSIBLE if it breaks the watch. I know the mainstream TZ experts claim always remove the stem in the time setting positon, but in my opinion this is the worse possible position to remove the stem. I only remove the stem in the winding position, on all movements and have never had a problem. Your problem is most likely the hack lever having slipped out of the clutch wheel. Getting it back in place, is not easy, or possible without some disassembly. You can verify that this is the problem, by gently trying to swing the balance back and forth, if it doesn't swing feely and keep moving, your hacking lever is out. I've referenced my ETA charts and I think I've found the part that you are referring to. It's buried deep in there...At this point, I may attempt to get to it and "play around". I'm fairly certain that I will be transplanting a Swiss 7750 into this case so this A7750 will be a movement that I can tinker with and learn on. Thanks for your advice and guidance! RWG Technical Posted October 2, 2007 Report Share Posted October 2, 2007 Ok on everything. If you do remove the balance, here is what I would do. Put the stem in winding. Remove the stem. Remove balance. Once balance is out, look in and see the end of the hack lever, push on it towards the stem, and try and get it to seat back into the clutch gear, it should be able to get wiggled back in place (after all it did come out). Once you have it back where you think it should be, reinsert the stem while pressing on the release to lock it in place, test it and see what you get, it may take a few tries...but if it's in place, you'll see it pop out when you put in the time setting position, and retrack when you go to winding.
