  1. Cool story... Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish wolfhound named Belker. The dog’s owners, Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle. I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn’t do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home. As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience. The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker’s family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away. The little boy seemed to accept Belker’s transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker’s death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, “I know why.” Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I’d never heard a more comforting explanation. He said, “People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life – like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?” The six-year-old continued, “Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long.”

  3. The rep Portu has a polished case back whereas the genuine is brushed. A tell that can be easily altered.... A lot of you probably figured this out yourself but it is so easy and the result's are so good I want to share it with you guys. You need 3 things: - Jeweler screw driver - Painting masking tape - Scotch Brite pad (or similar) Step 1 Remove your case back by removing the tiny screws with a jewelers screw driver. Step 2 Mask the area of the case back that does not need to be brushed like the picture Step 3 Brush the case back in 1 direction with the green surface of the Scotch Brite pad. Step 4 Remove the tape and wash the case back with water and soap Step 5 Enjoy!

  4. Some of you may recall my white dial Franken Rolex DateJust that I bought from Wheaton26 about 2 years ago. Financial constraints forced me to sell it off and it was purchased by Sweatdogg. He in turn sold it to Topoky and I unfortunately missed the sale. I must admit I have greatly missed this watch and have mentioned it several times in various threads. Well fate conspired and last week Topoky contacted me to inform me that he was probably going to be selling the watch. Now, I really didn't have the extra funds for this, but I couldn't pass up another opportunity to buy it back. After some creative accounting, I managed to get together the money and paid for the watch. Well today it has arrived home and I couldn't be happier!!!! For those of you who haven't seen this one before, here is a list of the parts: Gen Dial Gen Date Wheel Gen Case & Caseback Gen Crown & Tube Gen Gucci ETA 2892 Movement Gen Jubiliee Bracelet Gen Bezel Clarks Crystal Rep Hands Watch was assembled by stilty.

  10. I found this very informative. Taken from an email I received from Corvus watch. What You Need to Know About Leather Watch Straps... Leather has been used for watch straps ever since the invention of the wristwatch. Yet, in many ways it is particularly unsuited for the task. The problem is that leather absorbs moisture, especially perspiration. There are various techniques that strap manufacturers must use to overcome this limitation. For one thing, the suede side of the leather must never be exposed. This requires double-layer construction and careful sealing of the edges unless they are folded over before sewing. Because of this, it is very difficult to properly make a thin watch strap. Cheap leather straps are always a disappointment. Manufacturing shortcuts lead to rot and unpleasant odor. Even quality leather straps cannot be expected to last more than about six months with daily, active wear. Geniune Shell Cordovan is Not Exactly Leather... Shell Cordovan is actually a equine muscle that lies below the skin. It has no suede side and is non-absorbant, unlike regular hide leather. It is also the only "leather" that is naturally waterproof. It lasts for years, and only gets better with age. These qualities are enhanced by the Horween Leather Company's slow and painstaking tanning process. There is nothing in the world like genuine Shell Cordovan, and it is only made in Chicago, USA by Horween. Furthermore, Horween only uses shells from animals that have died from natural causes.
