  1. most of the alphas are of similar quality of the reps. but in general are more on par with street quality rep cases and bracelets IMO. buy a cheap rep and chances are they share parts you'd find in an alpha, and well you'll lose the look of the added (HeV) crown. Alphas are alright, I own two, but i find reps more satisfying and more professional looking. An alpha looks like a cheap knock off with out the branding complete with crooked markers laser etched bracelet print and plastic movement holder. I would personally pay the $100 more for the rep.
  2. a watch can totally change a life; whether it be timing a pulse, timing a resuscitation, or timing the thrusters on the apollo 13 spacecraft in order to return home safely. a watch can also determine the time of death...and that surely changes lives.
  3. you could always buy this one http://cgi.ebay.ca/OMEGA-SEAMASTER-PROFESS...p3286.m63.l1177 seems highly suspect to me.
  4. asia 21J is an excellent movement (if you dont mind the slow beat )
  5. i believe the ofrei one is not the correct height for our reps
  6. try contacting Chris at Eurotimez, I know at one point he bought up a lot of stock.
  7. it looks like a coin that's recently visited the railroad tracks
  8. ahahahaha *THAT* is a master of NO GMT OH GOD, GET IT AWAY!
  9. just buy a new 4813 movement for under $40. Swapping to Swiss is a lengthly process and costs around $170 when all is said and done
  10. Hmmm, being interrogated by customs is ONE thing, DEALING with Rolex lawyers may be another. ET uses paypal and they spill their spineless guts (personal records) at the drop of a hat... I wonder what the collateral damage will be...
  11. ignore and deny everything, replying to any letter will only incriminate you further
  12. swap out the movement for $30-90$ for dg4813 highbeat or ETA 2836-2 clone if you have the discipline and experience
  13. yeah there's an updated version with Rolex engraving rehaut and the 2813 is an Asian 21.6k slow beat movement
  14. my solution is to mill the insert, modeling it after that of the stock MBK one. I cut one in half literally and it has a different shape than the aftermarket ones or even gen. My guess is it'll snap in reccessed with enough space milled to fit around the retaining ring. at least this is my tedious plan of action for my current euromariner project.
  15. thanks a lot for the contact! I am indebted to you
  16. Seiko ALSO made a 36k highbeat movement, and i believe Zodiac did as well. (although the zodiac one may have been a zenith)
  17. THANKS! i fired 'em off an email as well as Somal watch parts in Ontario, hopefully someone can accomodate, as i've only found replacement stems on the bay for other calibers.
  18. I JUST broke an ETA 2836-2 crown stem , what's the best place to pick up a new one for cheap (cheap meaning a $2 crown stem DOSENT cost $31U.S because of outrageous delivery charges from Ofrei)? does any one here sell them? thanks
  19. i Love the display back, gen owners can order display backs for $3XX dollars, and many do. as for the domed crystal i have a hesalite one from my Alpha speedmaster, looks like it might fit, but i dont wanna try and find out ruining my watch in the process... If the crystal bothers you then the sub dial spacing would be worse. If you're going for as close to gen as possible get the speedmaster "reduced" rep. But as it stands the speedmaster rep is STILL one helluva of a nice watch, just gotta accept the differences.
  20. you beat me to it! that's the thread i was thinking of but couldnt remember when i made reference to "the open 3s" it appears he's made a modern overlay now, and potentially soon to be noobmariner aligned overlay : ) how awesome is that!
  21. perhaps ebay, or cousins UK. maybe even watchmaterial
  22. i've always wondered this myself, as it seems it would be the easiest and most basic part to rep. there IS a member on this forum that has done this, but i forget who it was. Try the search for datewheel and rolex, as he does sell them, but so far i've only seen open 6 datewheels from him and i think there's limited production (due to lack of interest?)
