  1. I was trying to get the dimension of Clark 116 to compare too.

    But failed to get them.

If you were to chosse b/w Sterny and Clark, which would you choose?

"I have been doing much research and found a possible source for a Gen tropic 116.

However, it costs US$200 for it. When you decide on the Sterny crystal, did you do much comparision b/w the gen, Sterny and Clark's version?"

    Sternkreuz

    30.15 OD

    28.9mm ID

4.65mm high close to the edge

    6.08mm high at magnifier

    Genuine

    30.25 OD

    29.0mm ID

5.1mm high close to the edge

    6.45mm high at magnifier

The 'close to the edge' measurements depend on how close you measure to the edge. If you move a few mm toward the center, the figure rapidly gets higher because of the slight dome.

  2. Hey Alf, thx for the reply.

I have been doing much research and found a possible source for a Gen tropic 116.

However, it costs US$200 for it. When you decide on the Sterny crystal, did you do much comparision b/w the gen, Sterny and Clark's version?

I probably agree with your on the crown. It is pretty close to the gen. I probably wont want to risk investing on the gen crown n tube, and later find out it doesnt fit....

Sorry about delay. Crown and tube are factory as supplied by Josh. They are pretty good and compare well with gen - smooth action and screw down well onto tube so I thought that it wasn't worth the bother of changing them. Anyhow, not sur e if they would fit. Perhaps someone has tried on the forum?

I'm glad I tried this as a first build - fairly straightforward and because the basic watch from Josh is so good (dial is accurate), a good result can be achieved for little effort. 1655 is not one of the real superstars like the Sub but is an easy watch to live with and it grows on you.

    Cheers Alf.

  3. Does anyone know where is SpinMaster?

I bought a PN Daytona from him about a year ago and after wearing it for 4 months, it died on me.

Due to my busy schedule, i didnt have a chance to look for him to repair.

I believe the modified A7750 (manual wind) has failed.

No matter how i wind it (clockwise), it doesnt kick start the movement.

Now i cant even find him.

Is there anyone here who has been in contact with him?

If no one has, is there anyone here who can repair my movement?

Or do i get a new movement to replace it? Whichever is cheaper.....

    Thx

  4. Thanks, bro!!!!!

Find these parts and then you can start to take it to the next stage

Good rep PAM 111 Steel case with a Sapphire Crystal- suggest you look in the collectors section for a PAM 111 or 112 watch- ETA or Asian movement is up to you - some good watches come up for sale on the "member trading section"

T-48 Steel (or PVD) crown - contact member T or search his posts for details on these crowns

Crown Guard -Try finding Little Hero on RepGeek he has some correct looking CG's available - or search the trading section here for a V CG

FGD 202/A Dial - you'll need to find one of those second hand as there's none left - again check the trading section

Caseback - best option is one from Davidsenjpn - search the "accessories" section of this board

Davidsen also sells this model of watch ready made or each individual part including the dial which is very good - just different to this one.

Finishing touches - search on ebay for 400042776369 and buy a set.

If you can source all of these then you can go to the next stage

    Hope this helps

  5. Plse advise me on the best part to get and I will try to get them for you to mod.

    Appreciate your help.

I don't sell watches, all I did were the modifications, PVD case, lume etc...you have to find and source all the parts.

  6. Watchdog, i am dying for one like this.

Can u PM me for the details and costing?

    Pics speak for themselves...looking good...

Dial and hands lumed in my custom mixed Tritium SL mix.

    Case PVD coated.

    Movement serviced.

Assembled and ready to be worn.

NOTE. The PVD colour is more this shade of Grey shown below, it's not Black, but with a white backdrop the exposure doesn't show the colour very well.

    In person it's dark grey.

    Thanks for looking.

  7. Thanks, bro.

BTW, did you mod the lug hole on the case?

I am wondering how bid the dimeter of the hole should be?

    Thanks

This shows the standard MBW insert with an Ofrie pearl. While it wont stand a direct side by side comparison with a gen. I would struggle justifying the cost of a gen for the small improvement.

  8. Bro, given that it is better than CWP insert, where do I get the PMWF insert

When you mentioned Ofrei pearl, are you referring to this:

    http://www.ofrei.com/page_150.html#9131

Two more silly question, (1) is MBW insert good enough, or should I get the PMWF as advised? (2) is the SS bracelet supposed to be hoolow mid links?

    Thanks in advance.

I ordered a CWP insert for my 1680 but it was never installed.

The PMWF insert combined with the Ofrei pearl is 99% close to the gen insert

But the nicest IMHO is this one

  9. I am very tempted to get the white dial ETA version.

But I was at the AD today and saw that the gen dial is not white, but more creme.

Could anyone confirm if the white dial ETA version is closed to the gen? Meaning the dial...is it pure white or more creme.....

    Thx

I already replied your pm, but I suggest the same as BROM: Save a little and go for the ETA/ double AR version. It's worth every penny.

Perhaps my most impressive watch (rep or gen).
