Gutted at AD: Gen purchase went pear-shaped
nicknoh replied to cornerstone's topic in General Discussion
AFAIK, false advertisement is a criminal offense. You could report them to the state's attorney general, but I don't think you would be able to force a sale or recover damages. In the US though, generally price tags and advertisements do not constitute offers to contract. -
Imho, having owned both the gen and the rep I would say none of the versions are very accurate, especially with respect to the bracelet. The links are just not the right shape or size, and it is very noticeable. The hobnob dial pattern is slightly different as well as the font, but that is not noticeable at all without a loupe or both watches side by side. I wouldn't even worry about the minor differences between versions such as the cross or the clasp. No one will notice. I would try to put the watch on a strap however.

IWC 3717: Genuine day/date wheels, genuine AR and a strap

Hi Stephane, any problems swapping asian 7750-> swiss eta 7750? I hear the hands may not fit? -
Anyone ever upgrade their eta movements?

Thanks for the clarification! Very good news indeed. -
Anyone ever upgrade their eta movements?
nicknoh replied to nicknoh's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
No clue actually, just speculating. As I'm sure you've inspected more rep movements than anyone what would you say? I would guess by the prices dealers are getting/selling them for it's not a top/chronometre grade. Servicing is great without doubt, but it doesn't improve the quality of the shock protection, regulator system, balance, mainspring, etc. that keep the watch running accurately after it's been regulated. -
ETA makes 5 grades of movements for the 2824/2892: Economique Standard Elabor

There is a 40mm white dial version, but with gold hands and markers. Beautiful watch, but I don't think it's as versatile as the black dial. http://www.iwc-watch.jp/iw322801.html#

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...ADME:B:AAQ:US:1 Watch looks legit, but given the very low price I e-mailed him for closer pics of the dial and a shot of his ebay name on paper next to the watch and his response was basically "the dial is perfect, and my ebay name is listed on the auction". Perhaps a hijacked account? I wonder...

Weight is way off on this rep. If you hand it to someone, make sure they don't have one in the other hand

It works, just remove all the stuff before http://ttwristwatch

Any mechanical reliability update from Portu Chrono Owners?
nicknoh replied to crystalcranium's topic in The IWC Area
I had mine serviced, failed a month or two later. Completely dead now. -
Could a real ETA 7750 w/ black date font be used?
-
I own a real Port and I would say it's a very good rep. The movement doesn't wind nearly as smoothly, and the rotor feels wobbly and noisy, but visually the presence and feel on my wrist is much the same. I do agree the movement is highly unreliable. I think any difference you would experience is more psychological than not.

The seconds running at 9 just screams fake to me. I think Joshua's has the more accurate dial, although this is from picture inspection only. It maybe the quality of the mbw's is far higher upon personal inspection.

Anyone Having Problems With The Movement In The Ingy Chrono?
nicknoh replied to Nebakanezzar's topic in The IWC Area
I've had mine since EL first started selling them back in September IIRC. It was my daily beater, and the watch worked fine out of the box except for the noisy rotor and a rough, stiff feel when winding the crown. I sent it to The Zigmeister in October for servicing, came back running like a champ. About 2 weeks ago the chrono second hand stopped resetting back to 0, and I can no longer wind the crown. It just refuses to move. I don't think I would buy another watch with this movement, given that the watch was serviced and it still gave up on me in less than 6 months. -
Use a loupe it'll make it much easier to see.
-
X2... my rotor spins really hard and noisy as well, and jerky second hands. Under a 10x loupe though, the dial is very nice! Picked up a BOB strap and IWC deployment on Ebay... ah good times.
-
It's missing the bent chrono hand as well... strangely the GST reps seem to have this.

I just tried this on today at Tourneau. I think the only "dead" give away is the quality of the bezel screws. The AP was immaculate. Perhaps this is a bad pic though.

Josh's Panerai 251 Daylight - Near Perfect?
nicknoh replied to Craytonic's topic in General Discussion
I'd be willing to pay around $1k for one with a correct date wheel and a little more attention to detail -

I believe it should also have production numbers? -

Looks like a good rep. What I see though: From the front, the date font is way off and too recessed. Dial font is not exactly correct, being too thin and large and with little serifs. Luminous round markers are too large. Missing polished ring under bezel. Bezel engravings look a bit large to me, but could just be the photo. Crown of course doesn't look right, but that goes without saying.
