  1. Hi all! I just got some 400 grit sandpaper out to sand down my 089 CG lever pin. Worked just fine, but I accidentally wore some of the masking tape off of the crown guard while sanding, so it was a bit scratched! So I got my polishing cloth out and polished it!! Well, now i have a polished crown guard on my 089!! Can I just resand it with the 400 grain sandpaper and bring it back to normal!?! What shall I use!?!?

    Thanks!

    Jet :bangin:

  2. @archibald

the River 089 caseback that I have says titanium but has no serial number, alas. The pursuit of perfection with your hybrid parts is admirable. Do you have a source of ultimate 088 hands short of buying an ultimate 088? I would worry about 036 compatibility with a true DSN case. My information however is that recent DSN cases are equivalent to standard rep cases so you may be okay.

    @jetzeus

push out the crown guard pin from the caseback side every so slightly so that it sticks up in the front. Protect the rest of the CG with some tape. Get 400 grit sandpaper and flatten the top of the pin. Then tape the top surface of that pin and push it back down just so that it sits below the surface of the CG to creat contrast.

    Good luck

Thanks Jurgen! I'll give it a try! I'll post some pics too!

  3. This 111 is special...very special! Nice job!

Did Vac make that CG lever pin THAT flush or did you? I'd love to know the secret...I have a newly acquired 089 that I need to get flushed and smoothed down like that. Let me know!

    Cheers!

    Jet

  4. That is sweet Raymond - You certainly know how to put them together (with a little help from your friends).

    Your photo's are sensational BTW.

When you tire of it, I know a very nice 113 that would love for a 111 companion - :)

I SOOOO WANT YOUR 113!!!!!! GRRRRRRR! How are you liking that thing, Chief?

  5. This isn't even popular as a GEN as is depreciates in value like the rest of 'em...

Ouch, anton...this is my grail watch! I think this is the sexiest watch on the planet! Not sure if you have ever seen, held or worn the gen in person, but it is incredible. The rep folks will NEVER get this one perfect...the movement is in house, hand-wind and completely different from what is pictured for sale. This one has a long way to go but I am excited that they are trying!

    Jet

PS...MOST watches, cars...luxury items in general, depreciate...mighty quickly, actually. If I had the coin, I'd buy the gen to this in a heartbeat and never regret it.

  6. Hi! jetzeus,

It's better that you open your BR. It going to be difficult to get it dry otherwise. Taking the 1st step is often difficult but put this way ... if you don't open it up your watch will be screwed by water damage anyway. You've got nothing to lose!

There are 2 ways of opening your BR - Opening just the front plate or removing the whole movement.

Removing the whole movement is preferred in your case. It is not difficult but admit I was nervous the 1st time i did it as well.

This is how you do it:

    1) Look at the back of the case. You will see a small screw that says "Do Not Unscrew". Ignoring the obvious ... you unscrew it!

    2) Unscrew the crown & pull it to the time setting position.

    3) Look through the small hole uncovered by the screw on the back. You will see tiny button you need to depress to release the crown stem from the case. Please note that there is a moving rotor behind so it might block the crown release ... just move your watch around a bit & the rotor will get out of the way.

    4) Once you locate the crown release ... use a tooth pick & press it down while pulling on the crown & stem gently while. It will come out. You may need a torchlight as the opening left by the screw is rather small.

    5) Turn the your BR to the front & remove the 4 screws on the face.

    6) Flip it around & the face will pop of together with the movement. You may need to helpit along by using a tootpick at one of the open screw holesto gently pry it out.

Put aside the screws & place the 3 parts (front plate, case & movement) in container with silica gel to dry out.

If you concerned about removing the crown & stem ... please search on RWG as there are pictorial tutorials on how to it. Its a little different in the case of the BR cause it opens from the front unlike most wathces that open from the back but the idea is the same.

To put it back together you just do the opposite. However, when you insetr back the stem & crown & meet some resistance ... don't worry. The stem is keyed so just turn it gently & it slot right back in.

GBC...somehow, you made that sound simple!!! I'll give it a try when I get back home!! Thanks a ton!

    Jet!

  7. Hi all,

I have an Ajoesmith 03-92 that i wore to an amusement park with my daughter. She wanted to ride water rides all day and of course it got wet. Didnt think it would be a big deal, but apparently it was. I hve condensation on the inside of the crystal and the weird thing is the hands are wet..STILL!! We went almost two weeks ago!! Not sure how that is even possible.

Anyway, Should I try to open this thing up and dry it out? I threw it on a floor register and blasted it with air conditioned air and it didnt do anything...but make it cold! Is it hard to open these up and better yet, is it hard to put em back together again...if you have no skill or experience!!

    Thanks!

    Jet

  8. Well folks,

Here it is...finally done. The specs are as follows: Angus PAM 292 with cannon pin fix and Superlume (havent tested that yet). The icing on the cake is the Red12 strap from Zack (red12straps.com). This transaction with Zack was awesome!! Great communication from the get-go and the strap...well, it is awesome! Here she is!

  9. My 292 will be delivered this week. I'll post some pics and let you know how it looks. The first pics that come out, though, won't be that great as the rep strap will be on it. In a week and a half, however, an Old Skool Red 12 special will be mated to it...should be enough to make you want to get your credit card out!! Stay tuned!!

  10. All in all, I'm very happy with it. I just find I don't wear it because it's such a nice watch I don't want to scratch it. I'd rather beat up my SSD>

I'm not judging at all, but I guess this is something I never understood. Why buy a watch and not wear it? I have the gen and wear the thing every single day, just about. Wear it to work, to play golf...you name it, it's on me! Will I scratch it? I'm sure at some point. I guess that is part of owning and wearing a watch. I'm rambling...just a thought. Enjoy that baby in the winder or however you want...it is beautiful wherever it sits!

  11. well i have to admit i just broke down and hit the "buy it now" button on this one too :wounded1::o:lol:

it's the first rep i've bought in months; i just had this feeling that i would regret not having the correct hand stack version many months later. this worry, combined with trusted members' comments on the quality of the replication on this watch, put me over the top.

    now the wait begins :bounce:

    deltatahoe

Right there with ya, DT. I'm just curious to see how close it is to my gen!! Pulled the trigger a bit ago. What's the worst that could happen? I won't like it!?!?

  12. Guys...as an owner of a gen GMT2, I am actually going a little nutty on this one. I am ONE click away from buying one of these. To me, I have seen the pics and it is extremely close. Sylar hit the nail on the head with the CG's...nothing that cant be reworked. To me, TIME accuracy is also important. I would buy this to see how it kept time. My gen is off about a second per day. If I could keep it un der 5 seconds per day, with a rep this good, I just might sell the gen and keep $6k+ in my pocket. If I am not impressed when I get it, I could probably sell the watch I get at a premium with the "correct hand stack" version. This may be a super rep in the next year...maybe less. I am undecided and time is ticking before it sells out again.

  13. Nice 104!

Not so nice a girl, I would say. I would expect someone finer with Hugh Grant.

You would expect someone nicer?! We ARE talking about the same Hugh Grant that got caught with a nasty hooker in his car 10 years ago...right!?!?! After that, any expectations for him I ever had would go right out the window... :yuk:

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this is a step up from the hooker though!

  14. Historically, I have only been a WEARER of watches, and of course before wearing them, a BUYER of them!

This thread is great because I just told my wife the other night that I want to start building them! Knowing me as well as she does, she laughed her [censored] off...she knows that I am one of the least mechanical people on the planet!! But that doesn't make me want to do it any less. I am a perfectionist, so I know once I learn how to take them apart and put them together again, whatever I am going to make someday will be incredible.

Oftentimes, I wonder just what it is about watches that fascinates me so much. I think time is such a finite commodity for all of us...at some point, each of us will run out of it! Why not have the correct time displayed on our own personalized, beautiful little timekeepers while we still have some left? :g:
