  1. As someone who has lived in China for 5 years, yes we are indeed overpaying for our reps.

We need to quit being a bunch of suckers, but when someone who wanted to buy a $6,000 Rollie sees he can get 99% similar for $300, he's happy to jump on that. Me, I got into reps as a kid in high school so I never even started from that "genuine buyer POV". A cheap Chinese watch that cost $30 to make, you want me to pay $300 for it? :D

It's a rep forum culture thing. I've been lurking a buncha forums since 2007/2008 and I'm appalled at how we as a community have no balls to stand up to dealers. I mean aside from blatant cases in which ppl use forum admins to help resolve situations, we practically justify them lying to us, "Swiss ETA" movements being a prime example. Or stuff like no QC and crooked cyclopses, etc.--Casio, Invicta, Seiko, blah blah can do better and printing 5 different letters on the dial doesn't double the cost of the watch.

Or you can just say I'm a cheap bastard, another $100 don't mean nothing to you, it's just a "buck" right? Well especially in this economy, and as a college student now, I care about how I'm spending my money, and you should too.

  2. I'm such a cheapass, I stick around $100.

But for the price, you CAN get some decent reps. Let's not lie to ourselves, rep dealers are making a HUGE profit. I lived in China for four years, and I can't even guess how little it costs for them to manufacture a Submariner case and bracelet.

Movement misrepresentation though, that's just horrible! We should quit kissing the asses of these "trusted dealers", start posting names. Who has been confirmed to have "accidentally mistyped" their movements? :D

  3. I got one Sub78 with a bad movement and misaligned xtal from Andrew, he replaced it free of charge with another that was much better.

The difference between these $78 specials and the "Newbies Buy" $98 (new) noobmariners is that the $98 noobs have a slightly thinner crown and the correct date-mag. The case/bracelet on my $78 is pretty good, and even the pearl is not that bad.

My only real gripe is that it has literally ZERO rehaut, the insert actually rises above the coin-edge of the bezel.

  4. Does it look like a small, maybe 2mm cylinder with a middle section that has a larger radius than the rest?

I think I just had one of those from tearing apart a dead CN sub... but finding in my carpet will be impossible.

  5. I got a $78 from Andrew and was victim to the QC issues. Crystal was crooked so cyclops was off, etched crown was off.

Movement had date issues (stuck on 13-14-15-16-17 transitions, required many turns to advance 1 day, etc.), and the minute hand just came loose too. Now I can not even change the date using the crown.

Bracelet and case were excellent though, and otherwise, it's a great watch.

Andrew is taking care of it, and his service is good.

EDIT: I forgot to say that someone who got a black Sub from TTK had a similar crystal misalignment, and even an identical scratch on an otherwise hidden part of the bracelet, leading me to think that the "noobfactory" is pumping out a lower-qual batch of noobmariners now. I'm pretty sure the 98's are the same as the 78's are the same as Josh's 108's. Someone who got a noob Yachtmaster had the same crystal issue as well.

    NOOBFACTORY COME ON!

  6. I have read that these Sub78's first popped up as Xmas specials on Andrew's site, so is that long enough for a comparison with the tried-and-true "noobmariner" or even a solo review? I have also heard that these are the same exact watches as the $108 noobmariners except with an updated (bolder) date font.

    Thanks.

  7. ^lol. A police helicopter just flew over my house, and I'm feeling paranoid!

Could someone tell me why Andrew instructs us to "wait 4-5 days" before checking the EMS tracking number? Not that I doubt him, but what exactly is going on during this time? Some people claim to have received EMS packages in the US in 3-4 days.

    Thanks.
