  1. maybe it has something to do with the fact that we have rep case rehauts designed with marinas and chronographs/gmts in mind to improve parts interchangeability whereas gen cases can be specifically made for a base watch with a shorter pinion or a crystal with a recessed cyclops so there's no worry about the munutes catching on the cyclops? just a hypothesis.
  2. Robert//PWC on RG can get them but they're pricey. I was thinking of getting one too, maybe we can all chip in to save on shipping.
  3. w, it looks terrible, what was it 40 bucks? pm me your paypal please i'll rid of this atrocity.
  4. Great stuff well put together, as always So in conclusion, we have arrived. What are your thoughts on the theory of the next batch of these sucking, as is frequently the case with repdom?
  5. Wow, just like that. Kudos to you for not giving up
  6. I thought the OP said it was a ST19 movement, no?
  7. I don't know what the stem size is for this movement but if it's >= 1mm you can have The Zigmeister re-thread it for 0.9mm standard size after which you can use an OEM crown/tube or the new SL-T48 crown.
  8. So "they're only Nazi if you are"? I enjoy Panerai watches and have no problem wearing them but I don't care for the frogmen tales. I picked my sides a long time ago, my grandparents on both sides of the family fought in WWII, both men and women. Not for a couple of years or a tour, they went start to finish, June '41 to May '45 in Berlin. In additon my grandfather on maternal side went on to fight in the Pacific theater against the Japanese for almost another year after the allies' victory in Berlin. The stories I grew up hearing from them and their brothers in arms are enough to fill several books. The Decima Mas thing not so much.
  9. How is that contradictory to what I said? They were in business precisely because of their choice of clients. Today's Panerai is a '90s phoenix brand with only about 18 years of uninterrupted horological history. It has nothing to do with the Panerai being discussed aside from the recycled heritage.
  10. TX, I don't think this is quite so. We're talking about stigma which kind of an all-encompassing deal if you ask me. When you use your argument's logic you eventually drill all the way down to the regular German soldiers that were defending what was rapidly becoming a home turf battle in late 1944 for Germany. Were they brave soldiers fighting for their country and their families, I think the answer to this would be yes. Had the circumstances been slightly different, I could speculate that those very same soldiers would be burning down Russian and Ukranian villages with defenseless women, incapacitated elderly and children alive in stick huts, while the men were fighting away from home.. Or these soldiers would be rounding up the Jews in Poland and Ukraine concentration camps for (Siemens-made, Bayer zyclon powered) ovens or stuffing them into gasenwagens (built by Opel). Again, bravely fighting for their country, their leader and following orders. War is hell and people are monsters, I don't understand how you can vouch for these Italian navy guys....The fact that they're "fair-weather fascists" doesn't add to their honor in my eyes either.
  11. Panerai's history would not exist had it been just about "building equipment for professionals" or the craft watchmaking itself. At the heart of every company's survival and success is its clients. The fact remains that Panerai chose the highly profitable path of a government/military contractor. There's no denying of the Nazi past. However, I don't think that modern Panerai watch wearers chose them for their Nazi/Fascist allegiances. I would bet that most who wear Panerai have no idea about brand's history. On the other hand those that fancy themselves Panerai aficionados simply fell in love with a combination of a carefully crafted marketing fairy tale loosely based, or how the Hollywood likes to call it "inspired by real events", and an air sprezzatura surrounding their undeniably-italian design. Lastly, something you may find of interest as well - Germany is the largest importer of Israeli goods in Europe and Volkswagen is the leading imported automobile make in Israel. I think that as a people we move forward and persevere by fortifying intrinsically beneficial moral, cultural and economic relationships instead of dwelling on what enormous damage and pain someone has caused us or we've caused each other over the years.
  12. I don't have a direct answer for you, just another question. Should African American people stop wearing cotton apparel? If you feel strongly about big business links to the Nazi regime, why not apply this logic and stop using all products and services from others involved: Ford, BMW, Audi, Porsche, Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen, Bosch, Siemens, Bayer, UBS, etc., etc.
  13. Looks like we may have several of A7753 teardowns in the works As soon as I got my 236 last week I mailed it off to The Zigmeister for dissection and evaluation. Eagerly looking forward to what he has to say, as I'm sure everyone else across all rep boards. The Zigmeister A7750 teardown was absolutely legendary!
  14. I'm willing to bet that if you post something like this on risti it will get removed. If I were you and couldn't get my money back straight up I'd ask him for amount owed in his straps but 30c on the dollar. Then flip the straps at 2x gradually.
  15. W, he was just in NY for that circle jerk risi thing, you missed your chance to throat-punch him.
  16. Stunning watch, Burnz, congrats it looks good on you I think you can get a Poljot SU 3133 caliber for less, it should be very similar to val7734, same ligne but a bit thicker. We'll need the pros to chime in on the feasibility of this movement as an alternative to 7734 for this project.
  17. That sounds very promising! Hope to see this come to fruition soon and thanks for not taking my comment personally.
  18. I think it's a really cool idea as far as ideas go And please don't take this personally I'm not trying to be nasty - it's simply an observation of my own thought process and not a reflection on your work. I know I couldn't wear one of these. I mean every time I'd put it on I'd have this thought in the back of my mind that not only I'm wearing a replica of a very expensive vintage watch, I'm actually putting a photograph reprint on (very high quality but still) paper of the original dial inside the watch case. I guess I'm shallow like that but I think having this done as a silkscreen transfer on top of an etched marker lume-filled aluminum disc would go a long way for me personally.
  19. pam187 and Cartier chronos next.
  20. Remarkable...and I'm also from Chicago. Oh, sorry about your watch, I'm sure your dealer will straighten it out.
  21. Ok, I'm not sure I understand completely, so correct me if I'm off base: 1) Some models are made by small shops, independent watchmakers and are sometimes commissioned by dealers and this is why we have A, B & C reps? 2) The daylight maker is a professional with a geniune article to copy from but they just decided to introduce a defect on purpose?
  22. Rolli, I really don't think there are different quality tears for this model. The fact that this is the only universal area of concern on these models with even the best examples still exhibiting the issue still but to a lesser degree, and meanwhile everything else on the watch is nearly 100% perfect; makes me think that the factory simply dropped the ball on the CG/crown fitment.
  23. Thanks for the review! I think the sub seconds/totalizer hand posts could probably be made silver again if you sand off the paint over say 4K-6K grit micro finishing paper.
  24. Wonder if they allow any jews with longsleeved shirts there...
