  1. Thanks Anton, I will try that. I also need to remove the movement in order to leave the case bare. do you know how to do that? what's your take on oxiclean, if not good for BR do you know any other method of coating I could try. As I have mentioned before this is a seriuos hobby for me, but that's it. I am certainly not trying to steal anyones lunch. Thanks again
  2. @maxmsu. Is this titanium pre-oxiclean? see panerai pic. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...amp;hl=oxiclean Thanks
  3. Thanks for the reply. That was an interesting answer.
  4. untitled.bmpHello everyone, I have a rookie inquiry for all of you. I feel quite adventurous this week and I may attempt to coat one of my automatic BR. I have extensively read at the forum about oxiclean treatment in Panerai pieces. I am wondering if this would work on BR as well, the steel seems quite hefty. If this is possible I think I would like to give it a try. But not so fast, I tried to open my BR and the face comes of quite easily, but i do not know what to do after that ( movement hands) I also need to know how to take the crown off as it will be put to the bubbly torture as well. Is there a how to dismantle guide I can refer to? Or could any of you give me some guidance on how to take the BR apart? Thank you all so much Magiko
  5. tootall, Thanks for the input I appreciate it. I like leather a lot, but just as a hobby. The reason why I ask about a machine is because the thread tension, as you may know in machines it's flawless, in hand sewing it is just alot harder to achieve, plus I work with waxed thread.
  6. Thanks for the input, there is only one way to find out, let's use it. I have some croc that is begging me for some work done!. I have used anamel before, but not in straps. I think that might be it! it just has that type of consistency, I will try it. For what i can observe, it seems they use some kind of molding and let gravity act on the edges. if they use any brush or applicator it may mark it.
  7. Just want to understand the material's property, that's all. Tootall, do you know what type of machine is used to sew these straps? I do not know much about sewing machines, but do know that the sewing machine motor has to be powerful enough to handle piercing through 2 layers of leather. Therefore I think it may have to be a special kind, but maybe not. Thanks for the reply
  8. Thanks Nanuq, the magic of mink oil! nice hatchet btw. Put me down for one as i will soon start my killing spree at the office. It will be in style!
  9. Thanks Vic, did not ralize it was you. you are always taking care of the newbies
  10. Thanks, I will try it. Is it water resistant? I see many of the products in the page are water based. Nice strap, what machine do you use for the stitching?
  11. Hello firends, I have been working with leather as a hobby for a while, as i have been immersing myself deeper and deeper into the beautiful abyss of replicas. I had the idea to start making my own leather straps. I work with an old school awl, waxed thread for stitching and beeswax (best old school) to finish the edges of my pieces. I have noticed for quite some time now, that watchmakers use this gum-like substance to finish and seal the edgesof the strap. I have been looking for some time now and I have not been able to find what this product is. I have searched in prior posts without any luck. Does anyone know the composition of this material or product? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Magiko
  12. Thanks, what is the deal with the 1.3 mm back screws?
  13. Hello everyone, This is my first post and I would like to introduce myself, I am el Magiko, just a few months ago i have started to learn about watches and above all replicas, I find them fascinating! I found this blog last week and I am stunned to see how much you all know about the discipline. I am happy to be here. Anyways, here I go. I could not find answers to these observations: I was searching the posts and I could not find any info on BR-tourbillon replicas, I have seen some BR with the generic crappy looking tourbillon, but i have not seen a replica of the real one. Is it impossible to make? Also, I am wondering if you know why makers use quartz instead of mechanic in the replica BR 01-94 aviation chronometer/chronogragh. Is it because of the custom size of the casing? also are real BR supposed to have 1.3 mm screws on the back, I have not seen the back of a real BR. Thanks, Magiko
