If all else fails BK has very nice Sub crown and tubes available. Equivalent to Rolex 24-703-0. Very close replacement. It really almost takes a micrometer to see the difference.
Check this out you experts. I was looking seriously at this but the"L" under the crown looks terrible and the 2 "m"'s don't seem to line up correctly. Guy has 100% and over 2000 positive feedbacks.
Comex Dial
What does "Old school in a bad way" mean? Just curious.
Personally I'd rather have the correctly modded TWB case than the Noobmariner case. Wasn't the TWB the one the V1 Eurotimez and WM9 Sub was built on?
Noob case is nice but it's just too small..... Sitting right next to a gen it just looks wrong.
I'm no expert but after replacing plastic crystals in several older Rolexes, I haven't seen any gaskets or o-rings, at least not on Datejusts or Explorer models.
I was under the impression you used ultra violet curing glue, which is crystal clear and dries in a few minutes with either direct sunlight or a UV lamp. Available on eBay or Amazon.
Considering his age and your budget and since it's going to be a new experience for you, I think a vintage Datejust would be perfect. Parts are relatively inexpensive and are plentiful. For less than $1000 you could easily get a gen case, dial, bracelet and a Eta movement. That's a watch that was hugely popular and quite a status symbol back when he was younger.
There are also a lot of previous posts and tutorials available on that subject.
Being civil doesn't mean we have stopped hunting down and killing Al Quaeda. That war would probably be a lot closer to over by now if we weren't side tracked by W. taking revenge on Saddam and chasing his elusive and imaginary Weapons of Mass Destruction. The one's that truly hate the US are now pouring into Afghanistan by the thousands. Make a stand and kill them there. Leave the nation building in Iraq to the Iraqi people.
What is the alternative in the cases of N. Korea and Iran? Either war or strategic isolation through sanctions imposed by a coalition of world powers? War with N. Korea would most certainly become nuclear in the first day. War with Iran would almost certainly turn off the oil spigots from Saudi Arabia and lead to a regional war that we can neither afford to fight nor do we have the manpower in our armed forces to win. Israel would almost certainly be dragged into the conflict. Yes! What to do? What to do?
Personally, I find it quite refreshing to have gone from Mr. Bush's "shoot first, ask questions later" philosophy to one of constructive dialogue between the nations of the world.
It sure seems like now is the time to buy them. The prices are much lower than they were a year or two ago. I nice used TT seems to be under $2k where last year they were close to $3k.
I agree. It looks much better now, and I even think more believable. No way would an average person keep a crystal that was as scratched as the first pic.
After the 1570 was removed there would be absolutely no reason to take it to a RSC for service. Who would care what Rolex thinks?
The question was whether it was (a)legal and (b)ethical to sell it with full disclosure? I see no reason to think it not.
You can wind the 6497 until it stops winding. You'll know when you're there. Just don't force it after it's fully wound. That's the only true full wind. I've got several Eta movements and they seem to average about 46 hour from a full wind.
A couple of other examples: There is a company that specializes in kits to replace Jaguar engines with small block Chevy motors and transmission. (This is certainly not a travesty when you consider the quality of the Jaguar engines prior to Ford's takeover.) These re-powered cars are bought and sold legally.
And also Seiko watches are often modded and traded legally and openly with custom dials, bezels and bezel inserts. These are not considered counterfeit as far as I've seen. Customization is the right of the owner. Rolex should have no more rights to ownership after the sale than any other company.
To follow The logic in Freddy's post any DJ with an aftermarket bezel or a dial that has had diamonds added would become a counterfeit, yet they are openly sold by legitimate jewelry stores.
I've actually wondered about what would happen if I (or someone) put a franken DJ on eBay. Suppose every part of it was gen from case to bracelet, except the movement. As long as it was stated gen Rolex with movement replaced to Swiss Eta. Doesn't the greater part take precedence over the small part that has been changed? As long as it is truthfully described with full disclosure.
There's actually a lot to be said for owning a franken over a gen in this case since it eliminates the $500 Rolex service that is required every 5 years or so on a gen.
17mm 15mm and 11mm respectively for the set I have on my desk. Can't guarantee they are all the same though.
By the way, I'd recommend Clark Watch Parts on eBay for decent quality Tudor hands. Listed as "Nostalgia2000" I think.
WholesaleOutlet990is not so good.
