  1. Interesting Historical Info on the Explorer. http://www.xs4all.nl/~rkeulen/watch/explorer.html Climb on.
  2. My goodness! That is a thing of beauty. You are an artist and a craftsman.
  3. My experience has been that sometimes the EMS tracking number works and sometimes it doesn't until the package reaches the destination country, in my case, the US. As a matter of fact, I had one tracking number that worked only after the package had been delivered. Good luck. Climb on.
  4. Looks good. I always appreciate the creativity of folks on this forum. I like the light color with the GMT. Makes me think I should pick up a light colored strap for the 063. Climb on.
  5. Not tired here, although I have slowed down from my initial infatuation. When I first stumbled upon RWG, I read and read and read. Clive posted over and over to choose your dealer, then choose your watch. I followed that advice, and collected quite a few reps, then unloaded quite a few reps. I have taken Clive's advice one step further as my philosophy--choose your movement. I have winnowed my rep collection down to a handful of watches--5 to be exact, all Swiss, except for the one given to me by Nanuq that I won't give up. Two of them are 2892, two are 2836 unmodified. In addition, I have a Citizen Eco-Drive-chrono, a Nike Altimeter watch, for running and climbing and a Timex Analog Chrono that started my fascination with watches. I just finished re-writing my wish-list of watches. The list currently stands a four-two reps and two moderately priced gens. That list keeps changing, so I haven't made a purchase, but there are two on there that have stayed through all the various permutations. One gen, one rep. Perhaps one of those will be my next purchase. I like watches, I enjoy the research, the reading, the learning, the hunting, and mostly, I enjoy the posts of other members. Climb on.
  6. In the spirit of Ubi's post, this is my daily "wearer." Not a beater, because when I go to work in the yard, I take it off and replace it with a timex or an asian auto sub. I wear this watch more than any other, although the 063 has been getting some wrist time while I'm at work. Climb on.
  7. @crystalcranium: You're right. That's how I got my wife on board with my reps. I said "you like diamonds, I like watches. I don't wear any other jewelry, no diamond pendant, no diamond ring, no diamong tennis bracelet, no diamond earrings." Once she saw them as jewelry, she understood my interest. Then she asked if cameras were jewelry too. I pretended I didn't hear her. Climb on.
  8. My wife and I just had this discussion. I have chosen reps of the gens we could afford, the Explorer, EXP II, the Panerai 063. I also have a vintage sub from the noble Nanuq. Now the plans are to mod them. Although I find myself attracted to several new watches on a regular basis, I have restrained myself well. We could afford the three gens and the vintage is something that can be explained away as passed down. Beyond that, I'd be stretching believability. I wouldn't rule a rollie Sub or Explorer out as they are very attainable gens. Your choice of Omega and Tag is good too. Good luck with your quest. Climb on.
  9. Interesting discussion. Thanks for the info lagae. Funny. I think about mods for reps all the time. Never occurred to me to mod a genuine watch--even if it's just a Swiss Army watch. Not sure why. Climb on.
  10. Explorer I if you can live without the date. Climb on.
  11. Variety is the spice of life. Besides, for what it would cost to have that gen serviced, you can buy two more reps! Climb on.
  12. I go back and forth between my EXP II and my PAM 063 with no problems. I do find it difficult to wear my EXP I-just seems small. I say go with the one with the best movement--in this case the SD unless you can pick up a GMT or EXP II with the 2892 movement. The handstack will be wrong in the latter two, but a 2892 or an unmodified 2836 or is much better than a modified 2836, in my opinion. Climb on.
  13. Liked the old RWG but I like the new RWG better. I'm stickin' here! Too much work and effort, not just for a few hundred dollars for several members, but for a sense of community that was wholly lost on RWG in the end. Climb on.
  14. It is an illness and once you catch the bug, there is only one cure: More PAMS! Your story is familiar. "What's the big deal about Panerai? I just want a Rolex. I don't get these guys' fascination with PAMS. They're just big and ugly. I'd never buy one of those. OK. I'll try one. Wow! I need another. What should I get next? I need to sell off one of my other watches. OK. I have 3, but I really like that one." And on and on it goes. Good luck and enjoy. Climb on.
  15. Interesting thoughts and information on profits. I would think the makers could increase profits by revisiting their distribution or sales model. Of course, I think that model is what adds to their exclusivity, which is a high selling point for their targeted buyers. I often find watches in the $400 price range that look good to me, but ultimately I snub them because they are quartz or because they have mineral glass. Swiss Army has some great looking watches, but for the price, I feel like a rep is a better purchase, QC notwithstanding. Climb on.
  16. Count me in for a 2893 date wheel as well. I'm in the same boat Canuck--looking for a spare cyclops and a crown as well for the 063. Once I can get it all together, I'll try to get AR coat as the final touch. Climb on.
  17. Great pics and nice review. YOu have two nice watches there. Wear them well. Climb on.
  18. Props to TJ. I agree with DT-very eloquent, very well said. I will only add that I have learned a lot more about watches, rep or gen, with this hobby and from the members of this community than I every would have if I just went out and bought gens. Climb on.

    029

The minute hand is a bit longer and the GMT hand is a bit longer on the rep than the gen, that's for sure. Still, there are only a handful of people in the world who would notice that. I have the 063 and I love it. Caseback is wrong, no big deal. Date mag, date font and crown could be changed, but this is one great watch. I love it and that 2893 keeps time spot on. I don't know if I'll do the mods or not. I go back and forth. AR coating would be sweet. But really all you need is a nice strap and you've got yourself a fantastic timepiece. Climb on.
  20. I have met someone from the old forum. I'm not sure if he made it over to the new forum. I won't tell you where or when, but I will say that he was a great guy. We had a beer and then I had to run, but it was fun to talk to someone from the forum. Climb on.
  21. If it's a friend, I tell them it's a rep. Otherwise, if someone asks me if it's real, I say "Yup." I also try to only wear reps of gens that I could afford. A member from RWG I had said that when someone said "Nice watch, is it real?" his response was "Your wife has nice [censored], are they real?" I think that's the perfect response to the person who disrespects you enough to ask if your watch is real.
