  1. @ubiquitous I agree. Why spend the $4 grand? Especially when one can pick up a very nice eta-based watch for a fraction of that. I'm thinking specifically of the reps built on the 2893. It's a superb movement-the very same movment used by Panerai in the early GMTs. I understand the points made about quality control, etc., but it still doesn't convince me to shell out the several thousand extra dollars. Of course, that's just my opinion based mainly on my frugality. I also know that there are some very aesthetic differences between reps and gens which, for some, make all the difference. Personally, I can't justify the expense for those details. Having said all of that, I will add this to the thread. My friends and family know my reps are reps for two reasons. One, I tell them and two, because they know I would not spend that much for a watch, let alone two or three of them. I'm sure I bore them with all the details, swiss eta movement, saphire crystal, etc., but they play along. On the other hand my boss commmented on my eta 2893 EXP II yesterday. He said he noticed the watch several times and liked it. He took a look and was thoroughly impressed. He wears a gen Datejust that he points out to people occasionally, at least he has to me on several different occasions. I didn't tell him it was a rep and I won't. He doesn't know a lot about watches and I figure, why complicate it. I leave the complications to my watches. Climb on.
  2. Now that's nice! A li'l somethin' extra. I like it! Now, where can I get one? Climb on.
  3. Just heard from EL about an 063. He said it would ship out in 12 hours. Thought I'd share. Climb on.
  4. Absolutely-you're the resident PhotoShop expert. I really like the "6 ft.<Sea Level" depth rating. I lived in New Orleans for several years, late 90s through 2001. I haven't been back since Katrina. Friends say it's just devastating. My wife and I took the little one's down to Pensacola this past weekend to see relatives and the beach (first time for the 2-year old). Anyway, the damage there shocked me, and that's two years after Ivan. I cannot even begin to imagine what it must be like in New Orleans. Sorry for hijacking your thread Ken. Climb on. PS. That gulf water was warm, very warm it seemed.
  5. I agree, definitely the 112H. That is an awesome watch. Cool project Veni. Edited to add that I'm not usually into PVDs either, but that sandwich dial makes this very, very cool. Climb on.
  6. Fleur De Lis in place of the Rollie crown at 12, NOLA in place of the "ROLEX", Submersible in place of "Submariner" with the depth rating listed as "6 ft.<Sea Level", Superlative Jazzometer Officially Certified or Lagniappe Chronometer Officially Certified and of course "WIS MADE" Fashion it from an LV and that would be a watch to have!!! I'd buy one up for sure. Climb on.
  7. Vintage Omega would be nice! I like the JLC Master Compressor Memovox too. I've seen a couple around, but they don't look nearly as nice as the one jkerouac has pictured. Climb on.
  8. I gotta go with Gran on this one-Joshua, River and EL are solid as a rock. I'd add Jay and Angel and King to that. There are a few things I've learned in the short time I've been collecting reps. One, do your homework. It sounds like you did Norbert, finding RWG, Josh and asking for recommendations but maybe missed the Omega quality discussion. Two, be patient. Again, it sounds like you did this, to a degree. Three, I'm going with be patient again because this hobby requires loads of it and because sometimes things happen and there is no quick fix. Four, don't bite the hand that feeds you. Perhaps a better way to have approached this would have been to ask "Hey, has anyone heard from Joshua. I picked up an Omega from him that has some quality issues and I haven't been able to get a reply out of him. Joshua, if you see this, email me or PM me. Thanks." Then you would have a whole slew of people trying to help you resolve the problem rather than call into question your motives. Just my two cents, which is worth considerably less than that. Hope you get it resolved. Be sure to let us know. I have every confidence in Joshua. Climb on.
  9. That's the Poley Twipple Lock Cwown system. Very creative. Very cool. I especially like the "WIS MADE" Climb on.
  10. Add 4 which brings us to 1201 Climb on.
  11. I have a 2893 EXP II from River. The GMT hand "jumps" when the 24-hour hand is set independently. When not being set, the GMT hand tracks smoothly with the watch on 24-hour time (one full rotation per day). Let us know how your PAM 029 works out. I am expecting an 063 from EL. He said they would go out next week after the 029s. I love the 2893 movement. Climb on.
  12. Me: 1999 328i Mrs. Indy: 2006 Honda Pilot We sold the Subaru Outback before buying the Pilot. The Outback was fun to drive. I really liked that car. The Pilot is nice too, especially with the kiddos. Climb on.
  13. Not sure about the answer to your gen buckle question, but the popularity of a strap over the bracelet is that the strap is a bit more refined. You can get a lot of different watches with a bracelet, but the PAM strap at 24mm is a thing of beauty because it allows you to personalize your watch. Climb on.
  14. I ran track and cross country in high school. Wearing a Timex Ironman was basically a requirement. I also had a pretty cool Keith Haring designed Swatch watch that I wore. I think it's just a matter of priorities. Being connected with friends in HS, making sure you're plugged into the latest music all make cell phones and MP3 players tools of the environment. As you get older, you have a time and place for that stuff, and your watch becomes a tool of your environment. I spend a good portion of my day at the computer which has a clock on it. When I want to know what time it is, I check my watch. When I'm in the back country, I don't take my cell, but I do take my watch. Watches will always be in style, because they're cool. Climb on.
  15. 111 or 111H is a good first PAM if you don't want to drop a lot of money. 029 and 063 are great--a bit pricey, but solid with the eta 2893. Good luck. Let us know what you choose. Climb on.
  16. My daily beater--which isn't a beater at all. Climb on.
  17. I'm not familiar with the knife, but I am familiar with the watches. Nice collection (knife included) and a nice photo. I always enjoy it when folks post a picture of their watches along with their other hobbies/collections. Thanks for sharing. Climb on.
  18. Joe, Asthma sucks! I hope you are managing well. Few years back, I came down with some wicked flu that set me on a bad course for several years It was the winter of 98-99. That Spring and Summer, I had a hell of a time breathing and I developed a severe reaction to dogs. Prior to that winter, I was a pretty decent long-distance runner. The long and short of it is that year I developed a pretty acute case of asthma. It started to impact my climbing, even on short routes. It took a while for the Doc to figure it out and I went through a host of medications before getting it under control just a few years ago. When I hired on for a new job I got a new Doc, smart guy, asks a lot of questions and he told me that his goal was to get me to a point where I could do the things I've always done, running, climbing etc. I puff on my Advair twice a day, and I still carry the abuterol with me, but I don't freak out when I forget it like a used to. I hope you are well and hanging in there friend. Take it easy. Breathe well. Climb on.
  19. Tough ball between Bazz and Luminor for me. We have some talented people on this forum! Climb on.
  20. Must be the angle of the pic. Straight as an arrow on the wrist.
  21. My EXP II is my favorite watch period. Bezel is aligned just fine too. Guess I lucked out there. The hand stack is incorrect, but that doesn't bother me at all. The EXP I is a fine watch too-very close to the gen-you'd be hard-pressed to pick out the differences. A couple of nice Explorers there. Here's my EXP II.
  22. Nanuq's pictures are better than mine, but here's a wrist shot. I'll try to take better photos and get it in the PG this weekend. My apologies for the delay. And thanks again Nanuq! Climb on.
  23. Now that's an interesting idea. I hadn't thought of it. I also forgot to mention in my last post that knowing there's 2892 powering the watch makes me look right past most of the flaws. I'm curious about the GMT hand idea. When the last batch of EXP IIs came out with the proper hand stack, they also had a better GMT hand. Unfortunately that GMT hand wouldn't fit because they fixed the stack. Climb on.
