  1. LIke I was saying about the older dials. My buddy purchased a gen black dial from our Breitling dealer 2 years ago and the dial looks terrible.

The hour markers look like they were taken off of a Yachtmaster or something. They changed the dials of the last few model years. Never cared for them after that.

Yours are super thick. That is the personality of this watch are the markers IMO.

  2. No, it originally came with the Professional bracelet. Breitling changed to the Pro II maybe the next year or 2 years later. It looks more modern on the Pro 2 I will admit but I am just an old fashioned guy.

I actually recently picked up an original gen Steelfish Pro bracelet from a member here.

I want to build the original blue steelfish that I had once again. I was pretty close to buying the gen on ebay the other night.

  3. One great thing about this version is they have really improved the dial lume over the last Noob Ceramic Sub that I had. I put this next to my gen GMT 116710 and the markers look exactly the same. Indicie surrounds are nice and thin and no lumps in the lume which some of the SubC and DSSD suffer from.

  4. No, I am referring to the metal circle indices around the lume at the 1, 2, 4, 5, etc. It is considerably thinner on the newer gen dials. I am not sure where the change took place but I compared mine to my friends newer gen and it really blew me away that the dials looked that different. His had the newer arrow second hand and the thicker hour & minute hands also when compared to mine.

My buddy even noticed it and he is not psychotic about this sort of thing like I am. :bangin:

  5. The rehaut on the SSD is too deep and also too conical. The depth would be a hard change because then the crown stem position would be incorrect and a list of other mounting issues as well. You could have it machined a bit so it would be at less of an angle but then the opening would be larger making the dial seem too small.

I think there is someone around who has done a little bit of the rehaut sanding on a SSD case but I cannot remember who it was.

  6. Aesthetically - Have been back and forth on the cyclops for and against. Owned two gens with and two without. Like it much more with the AR coating on newer models.

Agree with the comment about AR on the crystals. It would be great to see some models with it at least on the inside of the crystal. It would probably need to be a colorless coating like theOmega SMP models use because the blue or purple tint would take away the classic look IMO.(even though Rolex has done that themselves with some of the new model changes)

Socially - I generally don't see good reactions from people when I wear a Rolex watch gen or rep. Unless they are a watch enthusiast I have heard comments regarding whether the watch is authentic or direct comments about my personal financial condition.

Maybe that reaction is based on me wearing a different Rolex 3 or 4 days(all reps but 1 right now) in a row yet I still drive a pickup truck to work.

  7. If you are correct in your details then those are some great observations.

I had built a super GMTIIC last year. It had gen crystal with AR, Gen ceramic platinum insert, CHS movement and Vaclume. For some stupid reason I sold it and cannot imagine being able to build another one like it. I would really be quite happy to just come up with a gen Rolex crystal again with AR coating on the cyclops and build another GMT or the new Sub. The crystals are very hard to come by and modding one like Lanikai did a while back is just past my patience limit for waiting for crystals to come back from the AR modders.

Another problem is that I am not sure the gen crystal will fit the new Ultimate GMT or Sub case. I think I had heard somewhere that it will not fit like it did the previous version.

    Such is our hobby... :bangin:

I love the sub-c reps, don't get me wrong, but they are based on the GMT-IIc case and hands, which are not correct for the sub. The new sub case has noticeably thicker lugs and is not as tall/thick as the GMT-IIc. The sub-c does not have a maxi hour hand like the GMT-IIc has. Also, the bracelet links are thinner on the sub-c and have brushed sides.

Some of these differences are actually nice (i.e. thicker case, thicker bracelet and maxi hour hand), but take away from the accuracy. Personally, I'd love to just have the wider lugs and better hour markers (they are bigger on the gen and have much thinner metal/gold around them). Sure, it may not be totally accurate, but it would incorporate the things that are in my mind better about the gen while keeping the things I think are better about the rep intact. I don't care if I get called out, it would be a sweet rep!

  8. What do you see that makes this not as accurate as the 116710 rep? Just wondering.

You have a nice specimen that isn't beat by other versions I've seen. Still not accurate vs. gen as compared to the GMT-IIc vs. gen, but very nice nonetheless.

  9. Yes, but only on the cyclops.

This is a major issue that has a solution but it would take some patience to go through the steps to fix it. I would love to come across another gen crystal for a 116710 I would snatch it.

Has it been mentioned that the gen of these new subs actually have AR?

  10. That looks like the new V series that Perfect is offering. It looks very good in your pictures.

I wonder how it compares to the M Noob version. The one that BK is modding.

I want to pick up one or the other and do the AR mod for date mag. I have given up trying to find another gen crystal with AR'd cyclops. I am thinking that it might not fit this anyway since it did not seem to fit the Ultimate GMTIIc.
