  1. I hear ya. Though, I will say, watching my tourby, is mesmerizing. I have had it for a few years and, I need one in my collection at all times. I like simple dials so the only thing that catches your eye is the tourby. I think we all would love a 360 cage tourby, but, that's not going to happen. They are mainly show pieces and i don't even think they were realistically meant to wear. They have to be stupid delicate. While the double tourb is just 2 cages - it doesn't improve the time anyway, just add an extra gear to run the second tourb. Imean i guess the movement has to take a lot of stress doing it. But, there has to be a solution.
  2. Doooooooood, what's up brother. I have been a ghost for while. Io never left my house and didn't wear any watches. I'm getting my crap back together, and I needed something new to lookat I'm back, and getting a light box together for the first time in 2 yrs. Pieces to sell pieces to buy and setup a proper, creative traditional PHO 2012 collection shot Good to see you.
  3. We need to consolidate a "paypal nightmare" thread. This is. Good information for dealing on the Internet. Makes you take greater precautions all around. I had 300 transactions on eBay and probably 4-500 on paypal and 1 stupid assh0le screws it up. Like the forum, I have had probably 150-200 transactions, buying selling trading new used and I have only had 2 incidents (with the same person) luckily i was only out 1 watch that "never arrived" that I had to refund. For some unknown reason, my paypal acct was reset to 0. So I'm using it again, but. I don't know how that happened. There are some people that are really smart. They buy gift cards, transfer the $$ to paypal and pay with those. So paypal cant get at their $$.
  4. Ahh well, get ready for the hard part. if you thought figuring out how to take a damn test your 1st year now you have too Figure out how to jam 3 yrs of intense study into 1 brain in 6 weeks with no outline and it's "win or go home" The good news is it has a high pass rate. And I had a friend that failed the first time (he was in the bottom of our class too so, not a huge surprise) but everyone is doing great after 12 yrs, so It works out. Unless you go my route then it's disaster, but everyone else I know is doing very well no matter what school they went to.
  5. I totally agree. I like double AR so, I have the stock scrapped, but it is much better than what it used to be. The straps are even decent now. I think it's all preference. They definitely come stock ready to wear.
  6. As the senior attorney on the thread (at least as far as forum membership) I will add the following 1. The board encourages the reporting of all counterfeit items to eBay. Once upon a smaller simpler board, we had a regular group of guys who registered new eBay profiles and actually purposely outbid items to save unknowing buyers then report Them to eBay. 2. I'm not suggesting that you would, but this seems a good opportunity to note for anyone reading. Under no circumstances are you to use paypal to settle a claim with a dealer or member. We. Want no Unnecessary attention and will be severely frowned upon. Always bring internal matters here, if you are unable to resolve independently. 3. While reasonable reliance may apply, there are several "tells" on this post which are worth pointing out for any new members who happen to wander through. A. Small photos. - if your selling items of significant value on eBay then you better figure out how to take large photos. My phone takes better photos than this. B. He doesn't say genuine rolex. Especially with rolex, but almost always with brand items you will see genuine Or OEM. Especially with rolex because, even when your wearing a real rolex your just as likely to be asked "if it's real" its the most pirated brand ever. C. Lawyer trick -cleverly parsed truth designed to convey a message that is not actually stated. " The clasp is stamped Registered Swiss Made, the Rolex Coronet, Steelinox, 93150, and date code S" He doesn't say swiss made. He says the clasp is stamped. Stupid move on his part. Does he really think he will win a paypal dispute because he correctly labeled counterfeit goods. He may as well label it gen. if you were looking for a bracelet, I would recommend asking here. Many members have gen stuff, and many of us are or know jewelers that could supply one at a good price. If your ever unsure or your spidy sense is tingling check here first. Mike was making the suggestion as part of the learning process as all of us have had or been had on some transaction. Nature of the buis. And in most circumstances that would be the case. It's so infrequently that someone we help is in your situation and has paypal as an option, that our thoughts immediately went to past experience. The good news for you and the bad news for many of us with paypal is. Paypal bends over backwards to undue transactions in favor of the buyer. Even if they can't recover the cash. Someone recently scammed me after purchasing my iPhone. Paypal could give a sh!t what I had to say, and refunded his $$ and I am refusing to pay paypal. So getting your $$ back should be as easy as giving paypal a tracking numbe for your return package. I wish you the best of luck with your collecting travels. And - are you hiring? I need a job
  7. Best thing to do is pick one, get it, move on from there. It's not important what we think, it's important what you think. In general prices by dealer are in line with quality. Not all. Maybe not a 100% copy. If you want that, get the gen. If you want an awesome watch buy the rep. There are plenty of reviews that talk about Lume and cases. There is plenty to make a safe first pick. I will tell you that the watches never look the same blown up to 1 foot tall as they do as 2.5 inches in your wrist. Take it one step at a time and you will discover what is important to you. We here will help you find what you enjoy. After doing this a long time, it's my opinion that this is the way to go. You will get there if you stay long enough no matter what ave you take. This way will get you there faster and more economically. I recorded my thoughts on the forum and what it's like to walk into a wall of info and opinion. I did this in my first year. Check out the link in my sig. Most folks who have been here sometime who read it tell me that they went through a very similar thought process and experience. It may help you take a step back and realize which foot to put forward. It's overwhelming. It's daunting, it's enough to but the best ADHD of us into a quiet nap. If you enjoy the board then you have set out on a path. It's a path that you can travel for many years. Were not going anywhere soon and neither are the watches. All in good time PHO, Chief Pontificator has spoken that's funny, I should make that my sig.
  8. It's not all lost. Most of it is here, just bad links. Some because forum name changed. Also for some reason I have image shack images that weren't showing. But it was random and I couldn't figure out the issue. There is a lifetime of info here. Much of the "lessons learned" in older threads gets incorporated by reference with the underlying point as part of a larger newer gathering of info. There are many members who keep catalogs of information they found useful in their sigs (I'm working on collecting mine, lightbox comes first) once you get a command of the lingo and which members are authoritative on certain subjects, it's easier to weed through the pile. If there is a discussion on a movement and you see The Zigmeister's name go there. If. You are reading about franken or vintage rolex and you see ubiquitious go there. If you see some drunken idiot rambling on about US politics and you see phoband ----- RUN
  9. Funny, I was going to just recommend HKTAN. I spoke to him today about a custom build - one he hasn't done before I know right? Can't believe it I think, by the way, if he does this right, people will want it, it's based on a popular strap, but I need it in blue and it's only available in black. There is something to be said for longevity. And he was building "super straps" since we were paying top dollar for watches that today we would laugh at on canal street. Good luck with the build
  10. That's awesome. Is that the dlc gold? I wish I could wear gold. I love how it looks on the watch stand. I have an awesome blue gold nardin. I gave it to my father. Every time I see him wear it, I'm like man that is an awesome watch. But, I feel like its too much on me. I had a client who had the gen gold AP rubber clad. Was my introduction to loving AP. if I had to only pic 1 brand. It would be AP. 2nd sinn. Then breitling Pam. I'm finding that more and more I'm into the straps. There are plenty of watches I like. But finding that perfect strap with a great watch you actually love on the wrist, not just in 10x digitally backlit photos, now there is a challenge. I'm building my new Lightbox 2/3 of the way done. I will be "rebooting" my collection. And a watch i searched for 7 yrs was just completed. I actually built one early on. But there was always. Something not 100% right. I got a similar watch last year. And I liked it but it wast the first piece I grabbed. This one, I randomly got a new strap for it, not even the one I really wanted, cause panatime was sold out. I waited for months for them to get it in. I gave up. And BAMB. I realized what was missing in06. And realized this is what I always wanted. I could go nuts with AP and straps. I remember those first MBK safari's. Uhhhh I wanted one so bad. Anyway I'm really excited to show off my new supers+ straps, I really believe I have at least 4 pieces that would be the jewel of many collections - of course some of us have a desk soo Full of AP's (you know who you are) that they are piled on top of each other, thrown like laundry in the corner of the room:). I do have rubber clad, Reuben barricello, and whenever my guy can get stock the diver. - there is one more with the small writing in the sundials. Blue dial, but can't afford that one and I really want an AP with bracelet
  11. I didn't say this dude is a pretender, I was actually calling out RBJ as I will to the end of the universe as a pretender. - I also agree that people can be to picky. I didn't respond the first time I read this thread. I waited to evaluate it again making sure I wasn't being to critical. But upon thinking about it and letting time pass I decided that this was inappropriate to send back to a client and hope they don't notice. Do you know what kind of crap would be handed out by the forum for someone trying to sell this at a premium due to the relume? Idont think it's inappropriate for The Zigmeister To comment early or late. The thread was put up to discuss if the mod was done right or wrong. If this dial was mailed back as a finished product? Then this modder turned in his homework. This hasn't been claimed as an oversight, he had a chance to fix it with his customer and sent it back, the modder can not hope his client doesn't notice, or IF he notices that there is a problem he gets a few days to make a deal to fix it. This promotes bad behavior. And playing the odds. If you can't be professional and deliver the services advertised don't take the business. RBJ screwed me cause I was a noob. When a thread popped up it was discovered that douche screwed lots of people. Lots of me too, but I didn't want to say anything. If the poster was inappropriate in his concern, we would have said so. I guarantee. It would be inappropriate to withhold comment and allow this to go on. Not only as a modder who has lasted more than 99.99% of all members in this community, but also as a senior member of the community. Is he perfect? No. None of us are. But, that's not what the thread is about. - even if The Zigmeister had many issues, he can comment, and we take his comment in perspective just like you evaluate anyone here's comment. So we can go fishing for controversial threads about The Zigmeister or we can deal with the issue at hand. I think we should stick to the subject. Maybe I raised the bar with my comment. However, I have gotten to know the man personally over the last 7 yrs - 7yrs I know about his life, I know about his profession, I have worked with him on a few watch projects. I know the way the man thinks and I know the way the man works. In fact while working on a watch of mine an issue came up. However, instead of sending it back, he emailed me the night it happened and we discussed how to proceed. And it is from that place that I made those comments. I'm not sure there are 10 other active members here who had the pleasure of more interaction with him. I felt comfortable making those comments. I am very happy the customer is getting a new dial. But, this isn't a watch trade gone bad and I think people who offer services as approved board providers are held to a higher standard. I'm not saying get the pitchforks, but, if your offering services under the umbrella of the board, you should at all times be Able to justify your actions in public. That includes myself when I made pens. I hold myself to the same standards as I believe other providers be held. So lets all chaulk this up to lessons learned and move forward wiser than we came in
  12. There are pretenders and there are the real deal. People that call themselves watchmakers range from the best to morons who want to make a few bucks. Zig is the top, best, longest, most professional, most diligent, most personally committed to his work, hands down the best available. Is he infallible ? No, but, he would never let a dial like that out of his hands. Re speaking up: it's important. For many years people feared speaking up and people like RBJ continued to screw people because people like me didn't speak up- when I was new. If your too picky, the crowd will let you know. If you think the painting is impressive, if you knew what he did in his career it would really impress the hell out of you
  13. For what they charge they can afford the time. It's a nice life. In the country side banging out really small pieces of metal for hundreds of thousands
  14. I've had my head up looking for this watch for a few years now. I would have a serious issue if one hit the market tomorrow money to find
  15. Yeah, I have 3 sinns. The regulators are awesome. Sinns are the best rep for the $$ hands Down. I am looking at buying another sinn so I have an excuse to get the strap
  16. Singaporeans 1. Josh shipping should be lickety split Legend - welcome. You will love it here. Any true collector loves to learn about the hobby. You will be amazed continually at the depth of knowledge professional and experimental contributions. I've been here since 2005 and still amazed, still constantly fresh info to learn. I try to contribute what I can. I hope you like reading you gotta lot of catching up to do welcome and good luck
  17. The sea gull manual wind is like 3 k. Supposedly the dual tourby is 10-12,000 No one should pay anything more than 1k for a center wind. And that is up a few hundred in the last 3 yrs, I think all prices are up.
  18. This is a fantastic post. I have a millionsmart based tourby originally sold by a UK dealer named homer. Who used to do reps but doesn't anymore. I'm pretty sure as of this post you can still get his on eBay. I have had it for several years now and it works great. I would really love to AR the crystal but I'm nervous about anyone taking it out of the case. My first one I put in checked luggage and when I got to my hotel, the watch was totally dead. Luckily, the millionsmart based watches have a 2. Yr warranty. So I got it swapped out. This ones been great especially on my HKTAN strap. Best part about homer's version is, it's not branded. Bad part, the watch is small by today's standards, but, the tourby is so cool, it's worth it. I wou,d like to get a center wind/ co-axial model one day and I would [censored] my pants if I could get one of those double tourbys Incidentally I have noticed he has a pvd version. - on eBay.
  19. thats not how the chinese work. sea-gull is a chinese co. they sell branded regular tourby for 3k that you get re branded by millionsmart for 5-600. its the same movts in the new breed of reps. and tons on ebay. so they either buy them or copy them. if they can build the movt how hard can it be to throw 2 in a case and have the 2nd just run via an extra gear off the 1st? the whole concept of a tourby is ridiculous related to its purpose and a knowledge of basic physics. it was invented post newton but pre- einstein and does nothing to free the movt from gravity. they are for entertainment purposes only. millions mart pumps out both type of tourbillon. throw them together so i can have the most talked about watch ever-as a conversation starter
  20. it is very unfortunate. in fact all posts pre-spring 2006 are gone, unless someone manually copied them over from the old forums RWG 1 and TRC.. personally i am in the process of finding content of my own that is still relevant and creating a compendium of photos research and Editorials for my sig. the bad news is much is messed up. the good is, it will all be better organized.
  21. Seriously where is the millions mart/ Chinese no brand version. Should be around 1,200 I figure
  22. I found a few other sites basic googling and the site up top. Right around same price.
  23. not many go for the 44. trust me, i started with the 42 better stuff is in the 44
  24. Awesome, I was checking that out and the isofrane - very cool. Ug, wish I had more cash, that wus dealer has limited stock of the rubber. PSA I have lots of watches for sale if anyone wants to get a good deal, I'm open I used to maintain a strap dealer link list. I am going to revisit that and see if I can't put together an updated list. This was back when there weren't lots of folks doing custom work. I missed a lot of time in the last couple yrs, has anyone done a across the board review on rubber straps? Hartdoc, how would you compare the gen sinn rubber to breitling or the rep AP? Those isofrane look really cool. They are the best cause they are soft? Or actually useful for diving. Thx again good stuff, that's why I love this place
