  1. Hey guys, A recent topic here in the PAM forum sparked an old interest to document my projects. It has been noted that the forum is no longer about projects but more about getting the best rep out there. I must admit that I have not been actively posting my projects. So the sun was out and I thought... lets have a sotc. These pictures are from my iPhone so they won't win any prizes. PreV 201a/202a This was completed most recently. I had built a EL 202 previously but had that sold. Major regret. So when I heard about DW's PreV project based on an EL case. I commissioned the 201a and 202a but upgraded it with FGD's latest dial and hands. Result is just pure sweetness. 6152-1 Completed this early 2011. The availability pf vintage parts providers such as Nightwatch, Ross, Athaya, Okabum meant a golden period in vintage projects. Managed to score a pair of sf240s on the bay and the rest is history. 028a/029b/250 These are some of my earlier projects. The 028a was stock DSN upgraded with a LEO datewheel. The 029b is a classic situation of right time right place. My local modder casually PMed me in Jan 2010 asking me if i am interested in an NOS EL 029b. My reply was sure why not, with a little skepticsm and cynicsm. 2 weeks later he called and said "Its here". Off i scampered around locating lello datewheels, chief cyclops and an appointment with The Zigmeister for some lume work. Add a T crown to that and you have a classic. The 250 was my first hardcore build. Next and maybe last Panerai project??? No, I do not have a 618 There you have it. My current Pamily. Quite a change from this Have good weekend. Cheers S181
  2. The rep industry has advanced tremendously in the last 2 years. The closeness to the gens are simply scary. So here are my thoughts on the current situation. 1. Good OTB reps are 98% close to gens at very previously unimaginable prices. So why bother modding? To achieve the look of the current otb PAM 005 would have sent the modder close to 1K, now its about USD 300. They can live withe very minor, almost unnoticeable flaws. 2. The new members have neither access to modders nor do they have the skills to perform modding. Honestly, I would not even contemplate modding projects if I dont have access to the recognised modders / builders such as The Zigmeister, Spinmaster and Vac. 3. Members who mod are the ones that appreciate the details. These members are normally established members who no longer need the "Great watch, Holy cow" comments from the forum membership. This is not a dis on the older members. Neither am I saying that there is elitism amongst the established members. I am just saying that the older members don't post their projects anymore. Why? To each his/her own. I for one use to post every single minor mod and project that I completed. Perhaps, I needed the nice comments to continue in this hobby. But now, I dont write pictorials anymore, just the occasional wrist check. Why? I don't know. My PAM collection has evolved and so have my interests. I have always done a little tinkering here and there. Nothing major, nothing spectacular. The occasional sandwich lume, dial painting, case modding. The collection has changed from modern to pre V and Vintage. Now I am looking at vintage Rollies. This hobby also spawned other shortlived side hobbies (photography - shortlived, case modding-shortlived and now strap making-we'll see how long this distraction lasts). It all depends on the individuals and what they hope to take away from the forums. Knowledge and friendships or the best otb rep out there.
  3. PAM 201A on a custom veg tan strap.... Cheers S181
  4. Excellent purchase. Looks great. How does the much discussed date window cut-out compare to the pics of the gen.
  5. Probably the only watch that I have that doesn't scream..... "LOOK AT ME"
  6. Nice one Burnz... How much?
  7. Nice build Burnz.... when will it be for sale????? lol
  8. Hey guys, Posted this on some other forum. Let's see if view on this matter differs. Just want to hear your feedback and your thoughts on this matter and what YOU would do if in a similiar situation. No correct answer here but it would be interesting to see as to what lengths we would go to to achieve our goals, our principles and what we hold dear most. Picture this, you have just seen a rare movement (sf240 / 618 / VJ72) that went for a ridiculously low amount. Dang... missed it but of course being the persistent person you are, you contact the dealer to see if he has another movement for sale, stating your intent to buy. During your course of your discussion, you reveal to ebay seller that the movement sold was below market price and that you were willing to offer more fore such movements. The ebay seller leads you to his other another auction (with same pictures as the original listing) with a higher BIN price and you conclude the deal.... making you Buyer 2. Fast forward 1 month, you receive your movement and you are as happy as F U C K. But then you realise that the ebay seller actually scammed the 1st buyer and sold YOU the movement at your higher price. Of course these things happen all the time in eBay. Tough luck you say. Then somehow you find out that the 1st buyer is a member of the forum. You have met up with him, you have engaged his services (modding, repairing), he has shared tips on how to spot movements and so on and so forth.... What would you do??? You thoughts please... Edit: Before I get hate mails and nasty PMs, let me reiterate that I am neither Buyer 1, Buyer 2 nor am I the eBay seller. Just an observer who minored in Psychology, wih an interest to find out what makes people tick

  11. I think the dots are rivet that was used in the construction of this particular dial. It had a plexi on top of the dial or something like that. Perhaps the more informed can chip in...
  12. One of the best out there... love the dial mate
  13. Somebody explain to me why I don't have one of these in my collection?
