  1. Has anyone heard or know of someone who is doing the new blancpain 50 fathoms bathyscaphe.  That watch is sex on a strap.  Would get the real deal but 38K is a years tuition for one of my kids.  Thanks for any help.

    WDH

38K ? I'm guessing you meant 8K, though there are a couple on watch recon for less than that...

i'd wait it out a while, someone is bound to do one in the near future, (hopefully with the bracelet or nato).

I have one of the regular Fifty Fathoms reps and it is ridiculously, scarily good....If the same factory could do the Bathyscaphe it would likely be amazing

  2. 3717 if you can find one, 3777, 3719 aquatimer if you can one, either of the Top Guns, 3789 or 3799 if you don't mind the faux rattrapante feature, ( likewise the visually excellent  3718 )

Portuguese 3714 looks good, the "4" can be a giveaway, but the biggest concern is the sketchy movement

  3. the consensus seems to be that you may get a proper 7750, but it might not be new, or it maybe assembled from many different gen eta parts.

The asian 7750 by an large seems to be pretty reliable, on the off chance it does go titsup, it's as cheap just to buy another watch.

  4. I pointed out the hand stack to the seller also. The guy's either stupid, a liar, or both.....

you assume people (even gen owners ) have a clue, or care, in what order hands should be stacked....

He appears to sell a vast assortment of stuff, he probably bought it in good faith and is trying to sell it for what he believes it's worth.

  5. Word.

I have to beat the chicks away with a sh1tty stick when I wear mine.

The crap rep strap is the first problem, you've got that sorted, do the PR indicator yourself, it takes 5 minutes, then call it good.

You can do AR or relume, but I wouldn't bother, the difference will be very minor, it's a great rep.

  6. be grateful you even see pics of your watch, it wasn't very long ago that, with the exception of Ruby, you got what you got.....

Angus is by far one of the better dealers in this regard, and as mentioned, he will take the time to try and make you happy.

It's probably turning into a huge [censored] pain now as everyone is getting incredibly picky over tiny macro details and forgetting that these are fake watches banged out as fast as reasonably possible for a fraction of the cost of a gen, they will never be perfect.

I got my pics on Sunday, my bezel is not perfect, it doesn't bug me and no one else that I'll ever meet likely cares either.

  7. Depending on mood, sales targets, which brand you're buying, whether they decide they like you, some will negotiate a discount.

I decided that i couldn't be arsed with that business model.

I research, if there's a rep version I'll wear that a while, then I'll look for used one from one of the reputable online dealers.

  8. PVD is a method of getting the color onto the watch, like brushing or spraying. It is not in of itself a finish or color. Lots of different black substances can be applied by PVD, some will look shiny, some matte, some black, some grey.

DLC will vary dependent on the finish of the metal underneath, apply over a high polish steel and it will have a sheen, apply it over a fine media blasted surface, it will appear matte.

the 026 is a good rep, I've had mine for in regular rotation, there's some wear on the underside of the lugs, but no scratches or wear yet. The v2 has a better dial and a correct matte finish CG pin.

  9. Hey guys,

how come the members haven't bought the yellow version? I've already forgotten... was the gen only available in Ti?

    23601124.jpg

I might be interested in this but not if it's not a good version.

    Please chime in.

Yup, the gen with the yellow accents was only available in Ti, not SS. The Hour markers are also incorrect, on the Ti/yellow version, they are all white retangular lume battons, not silver with little lumed bits at the outer tip.

  10. a picture of the side engravings....

    Gen 3799 Vs rep 3789

    web.jpg

they appear closer in color than the pics suggest, if anything the gen is less silvery than the rep. The difference in execution is clear however.....The V2 has a very "bright" engraving.

the gen has very fine concentric circles within the 12 and 6 subdials. The V1 lacks them, the V2 has them but they're too chunky and visible.

Having a gen in front of me right now, the circles are invisible in anything other than strong, off center light where the ridges create a light shadow. To all intents and purposes they're invisible, so I would say that the V1 dial captures the "spirit" of the gen a bit better.....

    web.jpg

gen on left, V1 rep on right.....

The V1 crown is spot on, there's no appreciable difference comparing it to the gen, the V2 is too thick and 2 grey in color.
