  1. This was posted on another forum by someone else... very good info: *************************************************** This thread question keeps popping up ... THERE ARE "SAPPHIRE" crystals out there that are not exactly what they seem. You can spot them by they way they explode when scratched. They are not 100% Mineral Glass, but nor are they 100% Sapphire ... Think about it, how does a SAPPHIRE crystal get scratched? The wholebenefit behind Sapphire is the 9 out of 10 Hardness rating, so when Sapphire scratches, there has to be a reason .... [physics: a thin hard coating will scratch due to the softer subsurface base] The CONCEPT SAPPHIRE, (ALL SAPPHIRE IS MAN MADE when it comes to CRYSTALS) is not EASY to dome, but Mineral Glass is and it's heaps cheaper to process it this way. ) SO, you process a quick and easy MINERAL dome CORE and then .... DLC coat it with a SAPPHIRE outer layer ... COOL, you get a cheap Crystal that looks and feels in all respects SAPPHIRE! Downside: The coating appears to put a huge amount of stress on the core material. Think of the analogy of a balloon skin blown up. If the thin coat Sapphire is compromised, ( gets scratched, chipped ) these stresses which appear to be dynamic with eventually cause a catastrophic failure and the crystal shatters in result. These are USUALLY marketed as "SYNTHIZED SAPPHIRE" which is an oxymoron as all Sapphire crystals are synthetic, so this marketing term means more than it implies. It means the Crystal is not 100% Sapphire, through and through. DAVIDSEN Crystals are 100% Sapphire and AR coated. No cheap core, no shattering behaviour. The Quality and LOOK of them is far better than anything you will see out there as well. Your dial will look 10X better and you watch will visibly look better with the replacement crystal. ***************************************************
  2. hello.... Ive been following the 6497 too as a 111h is in my future. enzo likes me pluggin his post . And I shall plug because it was that damn good for a newbie. http://www.replica-watches-guide.com/forum...=ST&f=2&t=31858 hope that helps.... if you don't mind a semi-hijack i wanna throw some questions out here... - I know that the swan-neck regulators on the 6497 are just cosmetic but.... what is their function if working (in a gen)? Flame away if this is a really dumb question. My understanding is the swan-neck regulator is just the curved/bent bar surrounding the adjustment needle/hand. Me so dumb. - is there gonna be a 111i (111I) for 2006? as i understand, every year gets a new letter, but the may or may not be siginificant modifications (i.e. sandwich dial, CDG for H) LLCool EDIT: whoops, bad link
  3. Just in case anyone hasn't read this old rwgI post.... You will learn about the three style 6497 movements..... unmodified bridges, modified bridges w panerai engraving, modified bridges w CDG. And explain sw regulator details. Super read w detailed picks.... http://www.replica-watches-guide.com/forum...=ST&f=2&t=31858
  4. Totally newbie here... i have the 42.5mm ETA coming soon as my very first rep. Question about the potential to mod this watch in the future. A genuine dial would be a sweet upgrade, but I don't know anything about sourcing parts... so Omega might sell stand-alone genuine dials in the future? How would you get one, purchase through a dealer or direct from Omega? Sorry if my questions are obvious or stupid but im a total virgin to the rep world... trying to learn as much as I can! Any feeback is appreciated. LLCool
  5. My father is German (from Germany) and my mother is Taiwanese (from Taiwan).. lol. Living in Vancouver Canada.... a very racially diverse city. I wouldn't be surprised if Vancouver is the Caucasian/Asian relationship capital of the world. Us "halfers" might be taking over in a couple generations My Fiance is ethnic Chinese with parents from Guyana (South America)... its funny story about Chinese in South America. After many generations in South America, they don't speak Chinese or have much traditional chinese culture, but are still %100 ethnically chinese because their relationships are always within the Chinese community. And their last names (ie Lou-Hing, Sou-Chan) are actually the FIRST names of their Chinese ancestor that first went to South America.... The French or British Colonists didn't understand that Chinese put FAMILY name first and GIVEN name last.... so all the immigrants first names became their family names when they got off the boat and registered with the governments/communities there. Its like Yao Ming in the NBA.... most North Americans don't know what to call him, what his given name is, lol. LLCool.
