  1. Here are my thoughts. If you spend your money on a rep for extreme activities you are basicly asking for trouble. Kind of like the guys asking about bringing a rep out diving then get mad when they were supposed to have 5 more min in their tank only to realize the tank if empty.

If you are going into 3rd world countries what are you going to do if your rep breaks? Even with an ETA inside of it what are the chances of finding a watchsmith with both the parts and skills to fix it? So unless you bring a few reps to swap out as they break you will be there wishing you bought a clunky piece of plastic. Trust me I have been there and done that...nothing and I mean nothing beats a G Shock when it comes to taking abuse. For $150 you can get a rep that might give up the ghost in a few weeks or you could get a Casio that your great, great, great grandchild could be wearing that same $150.00 G Shock 100 years from now.

Great post, Agree 100%. I'd go with a Tissot T Tracx or T Race myself. I'd stick to a quartz for what your wanting to do.

  2. Along with cheap reps comes cheap ingenuity, cheap qc and cheap production methods creating a cheap and problematic watch :)

lol isint that the case with at least 50% of all even the "expensive reps". I own a decent collection of both $100 reps and $200-300 reps, and wouldent suggest that there is much difference in the quality control that goes into either. Quality conrol is the 2 words that come up more often then any other two when talking about reps. Thing is if the QC at the chinnese worker in the factory making Casios to retail for $50 each can do a decent job youd think the QC at a factory putting out reps that sell for $100-500 could do a simmilar job. It's a pointless discussion really as nothing will and ever does seem to change as far as QC is concerned, I guess the answer is to Buy a Gen within your budget if you want something made to last and without flaws.

  3. After buying a few middle of the road gens latley and watching pricing on high end watches come down due to the economic crisis I cant help but be a little supprised that none of the main rep dealers have lowered their prices. The mark up for the dealers must be huge when you consider how cheap the parts and labour costs are in China. I mean when you can pick up nicely made "Swiss made" Swiss Army, Tissot, Invictia etc for cheaper then you can a poorly made quartz rep it kinda has you wondering. Any way just something I was thinking about while wearing my $450 Swiss Army Maverick II Chrono I picked up the other day for $84.

  4. hi guys!

do not get me wrong - i'm one of us... or at least used to be.

so, here's a question - why do you buy fake watches? You buy it and you, most likely, say to your surroundings that this is a real stuff. Except, may be your closest friends know you bought a knock-off. And you have to hide it sometimes from cool dudes who have real Rolex and Omegas (name it) - because if you put two things aside you are busted! And this is a same to admit you have a rep. Even if you have nothing to compare to your watch some people can easily recognize reps or at least suspect you got one. For example, i showed my submariner LV to one of them - the guy used to have a Rolex. He was amazed about its quality but his first comment was - is not it should be shinier? And he was right - Rolex does not use 316 grade steel! Even whatchmaker9 cannot fix it with all my respect!!! Some watches come with unacceptable quality and we just do not wear them at all!

Over past two ears i have bought more than a dozen watches - i have some Seikos and Citizens also among my Omegas, Rolex, Panerai etc. So, what i noticed recently, that my beater is Seiko diver's watch. Also, simple math - if i saved all the money i spent on replicas i could buy a decent real watch and wear it proudly.

Bottom line - are we losers? Why do we buy fakes?

    alex

P.S. I can not stop buying fakes myself - i'm addicted... what will be my next one???

    some of my watches:

This is actually a really good post. The same thoughts go through my head daily. I have a small collection of mostly very good quality (at least is theory good the $200+ reps) replicas and for the most part love my collection, however I cant help but sometimes wish i'd saved my money and bought 1 or 2 really nice genuine watches.

I also find myself really wanting to wear a replica but finding it hard to do so when I want the watch to work. That said all my watches work but do so in an inferior way to a cheaper gen. EG: I like to wear my Carrera and aquaracer but always end up going with My Gen Tissot or Swiss Army, just because they are without fault and work!! The Lume is 2X as bright on them, I dont have to look after every hand was or shower to see if they have fogged up, and dont have to hope people dont look to close to see the tiny imperfections that almost all reps have (misaligned bezels, hairs under the glass, crooked hands etc...). My Swiss army Maverick II Is an awesome watch and I actually picked it up cheaper then ANY replica ive ever bought and it looks amazing. Lume is phenomenal, Dial pops, and the workmanship, and style are both top notch.

There is also the re-sale problem. I can sell Gen's I no longer want but dont even bother to try on rep forums etc.

That said I still buy Reps. I just dont completly know why. It's really kind of an addiction... well not kinda..it is!

I'd rather wear a rep over an invictia and day of the week, but take Brands like Tissot, Hamilton, and Swiss Army over any Rep.

  5. Hey guys I have a small issue with a Tag Aquaracer Quartz I picked up a few weeks back. The Minute hand is off slightly and I am unable to work out how to reset it. I know how to reset the main seconds hand, but have been unable to find any info on restting the top chronogaph minute hand. It's bugging me and i'd like to get it restet if possible. Any help would be appreciated.

  6. Cheers guys. Thanks Bytor I took your advice :-)

I almost went a week without buying a new watch, but gave in and bought a Seiko Baby Monster. Not quite an Aquaracer (a lot cheaper :-), but from the reviews a really nice automatic Dive watch with outstanding Lume.

  7. Tried one on last night at Tourneau and didint like it. Much prefer the old Carrera Chrono. Not so much the sizing but the actuall dial. It looks coon on the net but the 05,10,15,20...etc looks wierd.

Sorry no wrist shots but MHO

  8. ;) in my opinion of course

Yeah I went into Tourneau tonight before dinner and was not impressed. I was hoping I would have been impressed enough to consider getting one but I was not that impressed. It's nice but so are a lot of other watches. It just didint look anything special.

I did try on a Concord C1, and a Bell and Ross which ive only ever seen pictures of. I left with one watch I liked a LOT. It was a Hamilton X-Wind, though online prices are considerably less then the store. I went in primarily to see the new aquaracer, and got to try on the quartz and auto versions but left happy to be leaving still wearing my Tag REP Chrono Carrera. Hard to beat the Chrono Carrera, possibly only equalled or betered by the day/date chrono Aquaracer :p
