  1. CONGRATS!! one of the best watches out there. EL PRIMERO- best movement, period. -O
  2. cmon- admit it- you all dress up like this on weekends. Any group of folks who spend hours contemplating the ultimate Panerai Crown are clearly geeks (MYSELF INCUDED) I dont know which gets more time, my Tron outfit or my French Maid's uniform (PAM 196 goes with either!!) -O
  3. Joux-Perret takes the 7750 and adds the transfer gears. That, some finishing, and a new rotor are the modifications made to the standard 7750. The module which adds the transfer gears is jeweled, uses finely crafted gears with rounded out teeth to reduce friction, and is probably half as thick as the transfer gears on the rep watches. Yes, the genuine has a slightly sunken date wheel, but the thickness of the dial is extended right down to the surface of the datewheel, so there is no gap between the datewheel and the posterior side of the dial. I am not sure why they did not start with the 7753 in the gen here, as many manufatures perform a simple modification which allows it to be set with the crown. In fact, a couple of manufatures have even made a one button chronograph using the crown as a pusher as well as a time and date set- so it can be done.
  4. Looks like you have some peculiar Easter plans... -O
  5. Just came from my local Cartier shop at the mall. They will not sell me a strap, without bringing in the watch- so I am definitely going with the custom from Aaron. Waiting on tracking info on the watch in the mean time. -Andy
  6. I saw the genuine of this at East Coast Jewellers in Miami- it is a limited edition piece just to be distributed through their store. Yellow is really sharp in person. -O
  7. I own a Swiss 7753 PAM 196 and just ordered a Santos 100 chrono with the same movement. I have owned the 196 for nearly 2 years, and is one of my most worn watches. It runs perfectly, looks great, has never been 'called' by anyone, and if I take it off my wrist, I don't have to worry about someone screwing with the chronograph and whether it will reset properly, etc... Considering the Gen is a 6000 dollar watch, I feel like for 1/10th the cost, I have gotten my moneys worth. I had it lubed and serviced, and my watchmaker says it should outlast me. I have every reason to expect the same from the Santos 100 (I hope.) This watch was also in the 600 plus range, and is also about 1/10th the cost of the gen. That being said, I did have one watch with the Asian 7750, which crapped out after about a month- which cost me nearly 300. So I got little value for my 50% savings off the Swiss watches. Until they get the Asian 7750 to the point it is a reliable movement, at least as reliable as Swiss 7750/7751/7753, the more expensive reps using this movement represent little value as far as I can tell, unless you are willing to completely forgo use of the chronograph- and this is not even a guarantee that you will continue to have a functional watch. I have no reason to suspect that the manufacturers of the Asian 7750 movement cannot get the bugs worked out- man, they made a reliable tourbillon for a few hundred bucks. It took until about the 3rd generation for it to run reliably, but they got it done. They will eventually get this right too, just not right now. -O
  8. The issue I have with the screws is that they do not all look equally flush with the surface of the bezel- I will need to see in person to be sure. BTW- I went to the Cartier website, and it may be an illusion, but the datewheel appears slightly lighter than the dial there as well. Hope it comes soon. -A
  9. where did you obtain the gen strap?? And is the dial color closer to white or beige?? The photos look lighter than the first run, which were clearly beige. Thanks, -A
  10. Here you go... The differences, as far as I can see are: -Date wheel not recessed, and the font seems a lot closer than the Asian version. -Cabochon is darker and more recessed than the asian. Screws in the Bezel still look a little cheesy, but suspect I can polish them a bit to make it better. Ordering a band from Aaron as soon as I verify this watch is a nice as I hope it will be. -O
  11. I have doubts- it would be akin to uncracking an egg... -O
  12. This has nothing to do with the thread, but Overboosted- Don't you wish Britney still looked like that? Her freefall was worse than Michael Jackson's- at least his took 25 years. How 5 years can change a person. Oy Vey. Happy Passover!! -O
  13. I understand your obsession with the El Primero- the best movement ever- period. Here's mine, and I just won an auction for a Rainbow. Incidentally, the Port Royal you have is awsome- but have you seen the new line. UGGGHHHH!! Some of the most butt ugly watches I have ever seen. And the thing I cannot figure out is why they keep removing useful complications from the watch. They have one new chrono with no markings on the subdials, rendering it essentially useless. And that's aside from the fact it's just plain ugly. All my best, -O
  14. Actually, there are reps available- you just wouldn't want them. Seen on Canal Street less than 2 weeks ago. -O
  15. Well, I just finished ordering a Swiss Santos 100 Chrono fron Trusty. The on-line CC system gave me a few hassles, but finally sorted it out. Communication w Andrew has been FIRST RATE so far. Quick responses to all questions. The photo on his website had the recessed date wheel, suggesting the photo was of an Asian movement. He promptly sent photos of the actual watch, and I must say it looks pretty amazing. Will post photos when it arrives. -O
  16. I use auto color correct in photochop CS, and it fixes the color cast by the lighting the dealers use on their photos. In the past it has been helpful in determining how yellow or green the lume is- and the actual products I have received have born this out. That being said, ehat is wrong with the logo?? -O
  17. I pulled the photo and corrected the color- and it did not come up so green. Photoshop 'knows' the right settings- this method has worked for me in the past. Correcting it takes off some of the green hue. -O
  18. I was just looking at the recent dealer listings, and Davidsen has a new 005 listed. I've looked at the photos, and compared them to photos of gen- this looks more spot on than any one I have seen. Color of lume looks right, even the crown looks good. Only thing I notice is font may be just slightly off. Am I missing anything?? -O
  19. You could take that statement one step further and ask yourself why you would buy an inferior replica when there are perfectly fine gens out there....to each his/her own. -O
  20. if its fake, it is way above average rep... -O
  21. I am surprised the 2mm difference does not cause the case to foul the balance wheel- usually they come pretty close to the outer edge of the movement. -O
  22. The movement in the picture is an authentic Rolex movement. Without seeing the front, I cannot tell which it is. It id definitely NOT a Russian movmt. That you found one that fits in that case (I am assuming without a spacer), limits it to about one of about 5 or 6 possibilities. Have a reference book at home, and will take a look tonight. Regardless of which it is, I suspect the cannon pins are essentially the same diameter regarding the cal of the movement- given that specific sixe movement. If I can check this evening, will post tomorrow- rounding in the hospital until the cows come home. Ugh. -O
