  1. There have been so many different versions of the SMP that I have lost count. The biggest drawback with this case is the grossly oversized crown - it's far too thick / wide and a genuine crown would lost in the wider CGs.

I have 2 old versions at the moment, an early Bond with the inorrect HE position but a good dial, hands, back and bracelet. The other one is a black SMP with everything almost perfect. However, I have bought a gen black so I am considering swapping the Bond into the accurate rep case. However, the Bond bracelet won't fit the accurate 'closed factory' case because the Bond's lugs are shorter and the 'closed factory' version is correct. If I do carry out the swap then I will have to wear the recased Bond on a genuine leather strap or buy a gen bracelet (or at least gen end-links).

Maybe I would be better selling both and forgetting about it..............I have enough hassle and too many watches as it is.

hmmm do you have pics of your closed factory? I'm assuming it's a 2254 right?

  2. The best at the moment is the Silix version, where the main flaw is the He valve placement. There is talk of a new rep being released so hopefully it might be as good as what we have become to expect from reps these days

Any perticular dealer revealed the coming of this new SMP? I'm starting to think that because you can get them for under 1k gen. I might just buy the real deal instead of waiting for a perfect rep.

  3. Hont has these on display on his site. It's still worth something even if you just use it for its case. A great hybrid SMP can be had if you combine pieces with say Silix's Omega. That's if the case is 1:1.

I posted this here because I've never heard of anyone mentioning this version before, even though everyone's main concern with SMPs is the HE valve and crown guards being incorrect. This one has those two flaws corrected, yet never any mention.

  4. What model SMP is this? Closed factory? Other? It has correct HE valve posirion and crown guards but the pearl is horrible and other details (well I'm not too sure). I remember seeing that the closed factory was accurate in every detail.

This is two pictures from two different sources of the same watch model.

  5. If the dealers says this is in the works my best guess is they're redoing the SMP because they're replicating the new black one Omega launched. Which is good cos the only difference is the dial and bezel colour, which isn't a big deal, so they can do both blue and black versions.

  6. I had, and now my friend has, this rep. It is excellent quality for the price. The overall look of the watch is accurate, the bezel and pearl are great, the dial and subdial were textured very well with so-so lume, and mine kept very good time.

The suddial spacing is annoying, primarily because it affects the size of the hour marker at 3,6,9. The 'Omega' logo is wrong, the gens I've seen have the letters extending through middle versus the bottom. The chronograph on mine rarely reset exactly to zero, which I've heard is possible even in the gen. I think I bought mine from Josh, may have been Andrew. The watch stopped a day a two after receiving it, but my local watchsmith fixed it for like $30. Unfortunately I don't remember what was wrong.

My primary issue, which led me to sell it, was the bracelet. I even replaced the clasp with a correct seamaster clasp, but the bracelet tapers on the rep getting narrower at the clasp, whereas with the gen it remains wide at the clasp like the blue smp or PO. The links are also thicker towards the case on the gen. NOT wider, but thicker, giving it a much beefier, tougher look and having the thickness of the bracelet match the size and thickness of the case.

If you just like the look of this watch I highly recommend it. Personally, this has been my favorite watch for years and I will be buying the gen soon, so I sold mine to make room for reps of other watches I'm not as in love with (Slevin).

Thanks a lot for the detailed response! I'll certainly consider getting one, but it does suffer from some annoying flaws as you've detailed. The small hour markers which weren't a big deal for me are even staring to dissuade me now.

  7. Looked everywhere, couldn't find a review of this watch (which is suprising cos it's hot) so sorry if stuff said here has been covered. By Tor's guide says it's an excellent replication, but by looking at the pics on dealers' sites, the bracelet engraving seems to says "Speedmaster" instead of "Seamaster Professional".

    Example here

Apart from that and the subdial spacing all looks good, as far as I can see. Has anyone bought this watch who can tell me how it's performing? You reckon I can get a dealer to source the correct bracelet for it? For instance Is there a reason why the bracelet from the blue chrono wouldn't fit?

    Cheers.
