HI all - heading to Bangkok later this month, and the advice I've gotten has been to know my watches and prepare to be tested. Is this because the MBK dealer (visited by many users here) will try to screw you on prices, on mechanism, or will just sell you a crap rep? Should I be studying the tells, or the mechanism of the watch? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks all!

Hey all - going through a late-20s mid-life crisis and since getting a girl 20 years younger than me is out of the question, I'm settling for a car (and maybe an AP rep later this year). Has anyone here owned a Cayman, and what are you opinions of it? I've driven one and the ride was incredible, as was the engine growl. Interior is pretty cruddy for a $60k car, but the driving experience more than makes up for it. My main question surrounds service/reliability - how is this car in terms of maintenance? Thinking of getting a pre-owned one, so that someone else can take the massive initial depreciation (~50% in 3 yrs) on this car, so may not get a warranty, which is why the reliability issue is more important than it normally would be. Would love to hear feedback!

Seriously, what in the world is the difference here? I fixate on my DSSD V5 daily, and I'm having a hard time spotting the difference. The triangle at 12 is curved, not straight; HEV valve looks almost the same; the dial is the same as V5; the hour markers are marginally thinner, but is that enough to justify repurchasing the watch?

For me, lume has less to do with comparison to gen (although for a Pam, I'd need it), and more to do with how much I love the way lume looks. It's one of those small pleasures of this hobby for me, like a smooth sweep, or perfect AR. I would imagine that there are more people out there like me who would love bright lume on their reps regardless of how the gens look.

Thanks guys - at some point down the line, I'll probably make the move and buy me a blacksteel or a super avenger (since its a pretty damned good rep). Wish I was in the EU/US so I could avail of chief's services without worrying about things getting lost all the time - till then gotta trust the factories to do a good job... Thanks!

One of the distinguishing factors of gen Breitlings is their phenomenal AR, something the reps haven't been able to replicate well when I checked 2 yrs back. Was wondering what the current state of AR on Breitling reps is, from current owners. I'm seeing some incredible AR on Hublots, etc (not Chief-level AR, but impressive nonetheless). So the basic question is: Does rep Breitling AR compare well to the gen, or are we still miles away? (particularly interested in the blacksteel versions) Thanks all!

Meh, the Watch Snob on askmen is one of their worst writers IMO. Heres his solution to every watch question: "Buy a patek." If really pushed he goes to: "What? You cant afford it? Fine, buy AL&S. Wait till you move to the Middle East - generally I try to be polite (if I've offended any forum members, my apologies), and have been raised to open doors for people regardless of gender. In the USA, the usual reaction was surprise followed by a genuine "thank you". Here, the snotty b**tar*ds just walk right by as if you were paid to do this. Occasionally I've taken to loudly saying "You're welcome", but I'm pretty sure they dont understand what that means anyway, esp since not one person has bothered to turn around and say "oh sorry, i meant to say thank you" or something to that end.

The first rule of rep club is : you do not walk into a dealer with a rep. The second rule of rep club is : .....you get the idea, no matter how good your rep, do not go into an AD with it on. A lot of members here are not fans, and for good reason.

Plaifenders suggestion is ideal, however in a crunch an ink eraser works as well. Not a pencil eraser - ink/pen erasers tend to be grey, and are less pliable. You can find them at most stationary stores. Yeah, the list is currently the G11, LX5 (apparently its great for landscape shots - damn you Pug for making this harder!), and potentially the S90, although I'm leaning more to the first two. And of course, now I gotta read up on the 4/3rds! Typical RWG style; you walk in wanting to find out about the best sub, and 5 weeks later you leave with an Ingy with Lello datewheels that you learnt to install yourself!

Seriously, have you tried tapping on the front to make sure there actually is something there? The volcano has always been beautiful but post ziggification/chief AR, its on another level entirely.
