  1. Handwinding an auto movement is a big no-no. A little shake to get the movement going is best. The Zigmeister did a thread on this; all you have to do is glance at some of his pics to get the point... http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...omatic+movement
  2. Here's the color disparity I'm talking about, where the DSN and Gen have the same/similar color dial--but the Ultimate is more "purplish" for some reason... (all shots appear taken with direct light, to show dial color/texture...) Genuine (recently listed/sold on Paneristi) DSN (mine) "Ultimate" (forum member's) This color issue has been well-documented... To me, it's sort of a deal-breaker. Also, note the "L Swiss Made L" placement on the DSN and Gen versus the Ultimate. As a result, I bought the DSN. Here's my DSN--photo is taken under a "tent"--the result makes the dial look more "blue" and flat. The thing that's interesting is DSN appears to have updated his date font recently. This one appears to be larger and more bold than his previous versions... (having owned a number of them... including 2 DSN 104's and his 089...) Anyway, you be the judge: RSM
  3. Great comparison! Question--the Ultimate dial seems to have more of a "purple" dial than the Gen or DSN. This has been mentioned/photographed in other threads. Is this true with yours? What do you think. Regardless of dial color, to me--it's sort of a draw between the two reps... DSN has a better dial ("6" is better, markers better, "L Swiss L" is placed better, and color more accurate), better hands, more accurate CB, and Superlume... Ultimate has better CG, Crown, Cyclops and Font... So, the question becomes--what can you live with? What mods would you do most easily? Again, thx--looking forward to your response on dial color. RSM
  4. Excellent... I think the holiday delayed it slightly, but glad you have it, brother. RSM
  5. All of the new traffic suddenly at RWI would surely melt it's servers down... ...and then there would be nothing. A perfect doomdsday scenario for reps (engineered, perhaps, by a consortium of Gen companies...)...
  6. This isn't so much a "rep" watch observation--as much as it is a general thought about those of us obsessed with watches... It really struck me today that most people don't notice/or care about watches... they really could care less. It also occurred to me that all I wanted to do was leave the lovely family party I was attending--and log onto watch forums. We're a finite little universe of watch freaks who--thanks to the modern technology of the internet--have found each other. These forums validate what--to most of us--is a clinical obsession, an "idee fixe" of the highest order... Yup, most of us (me included) are nuts. Anyway, that is all. RSM
  7. Did this thread the other day over at the "Geek"... thought I'd share here... This is a combo of a really nice Swiss (confirmed) V3 DSSD -- the one that has the most solid build of any, according to "experts." It's chief flaw is the bezel -- font was too skinny. The V5 comes with the best bezel--closest to gen. Here they are--together--at last. If someone has a better DSSD rep--post it here and explain why. (Bevelled date, matte dial--aren't enough to overcome the all-around substandard nature of the V5, IMO). Pics... First, the Gen... Here's mine... RSM
  8. Damn, if I could get an 029 or 063 with a Lello DW and correct Cyclops... I'd be really happy. Have owned nice Swiss ones of both... but the date thing killed them for me... Nice watches, guys. RSM
  9. Isn't the Rollie GMT 2 a tad SMALL for you, my Pam-obsessed friend!?
  10. What if the dealer claims that he does NOT drop-ship (even though we all know, otherwise)...
  11. I think they'd be--legally--on very shaky ground. They'd be buying it--knowing it was a rep up front. The people they should go after are the ones hawking reps as "gens" on the 'Bay for thousands of dollars. The only other place for them to route out the problem would be the factories that make them in the first place. Going after an end-user is a fruitless enterprise, IMO. (Just like why cops don't arrest someone who has a joint, anymore...) RSM
  12. They're definitely a bunch of "snoops" in here... We should start a "Spy" sub-forum; let these guys pull up a chair and feel welcome. :drinks: PayPal is another visitor, I bet. Did I mention, the "emoticons" are far superior over here at RWG, versus RG--sorry to get carried away, but can't resist.
  13. Damn bastards; sound like they're onto our shenanigans... thx for the advice, everyone. I think the pearl is already superlume (as are the hands.). Must have been replaced by prior owner. The T-Dial I'm going to protect with my life. I'll let you guys know what transpires. RSM
  14. Sending my 024 F off for a few things since the movement is running fast (it's under warranty, since it was fully serviced this year by the prior owner). I might replace the bezel, since I hear they're pretty cheap. I've heard it can take a while to get service--at least that was the case a year ago. Anyone sent them a Pam lately? Will they give you back replaced parts (i.e. can I get the old bezel back--or do they keep it.). Any wisdom on this appreciated. RSM
  15. Maybe an influx of frustrated Geeks have flooded 'Risti this morning. Won't load, just like RG... :wallbash:
  16. The best out-of-the box one appears to be Davidsen's (he's in the dealer section). He has genuine Swiss ETA 6497 movements with one of the best "E" engravings. His dials are very good (and super-lumed) and he has decent domed Sapphire. As for mods, one could do a number of things... depending on what bugged you. As far as which parts are 1:1, I'm not sure with Davidsen...
  17. This watch was actually made in 1993 to honor Dunhill's centennial. Thus, it is reminiscent of watches from the turn of the century. There were only a limited number of these made--and it cost around $1,000 over 15 years ago. This one is in 95% condition. Actually, it could get close to mint with a good Cape Cod polish.. It's sapphire crystal, Swiss automatic/mechanical (not sure what movement), Box and Papers; really cool looking. But, befitting the time, on the smaller side (not sure what the diameter is...) I've googled this thing to death, and can't find ANYTHING about it... Anyone have any thoughts. Might post this over at TZ or WUS... RSM
  18. Son, there's a button, on the upper right hand of your screen. It's called "Search." Do some reading first, please, before posting, nooooooooooooooooooooooooob.
  19. It's gone because it's--literally--radioactive. Looks awesome when a factory does it for you, but not a great thing to play around with.
  20. Thanks guys. Not a regular over here, at RWG--but thought I'd share. It's cool how many names I recognize from RG, though. Maybe we're not that different, after all.
  21. Rainer, who advertises them on 'risti.
  22. Just got this, as my love for Pams knows no bounds. This a T dial... and this tritium doesn't disappoint, displaying a subtle patina that really makes the watch. I'm very happy, that's all I can say. On to my first pics...
  23. Here's one: http://repgeek.com/showthread.php?t=68111
