  1. I have to say: that's really pathetic, that "friend" lying about a bad rep, even when you tried to help him out and let him off the hook... Rather than connect with another person, upgrade his watch, and perhaps learn about a new hobby--he chose to isolate himself in a lie. But, in that WSJ article about Vacheron Constantin building a "counterfeit-proof"--they mention that world wide MORE replicas are produced each year--than genuines. And most of them are Canal Street quality--not DSN. Thus, one can only conclude, that one out of every two watches you see on the street are bad fakes. And many of those cheapos are worn by people who are vigorously pretending they're real...
  2. The "lite" is mineral glass; you save $30 over crystal (I'd get the Saph. Crystal). Pretty clear if you just compare the listings... Any other questions? Let me know when you have to pee next, and I'll come hold your schlong for you...
  3. Well, if you had one of the older "bad" ones--there are new ones that are much better (came out in August). Most people think the ones sold by Josh/Andrew (aka "v.1") are the most accurate. However, they don't have functioning Power Reserve. Other dealers are selling a different one ("v.2") which HAS functioning Power Reserve, but a less accurate dial. Both are around $200. Choose your poison. If you already have one of these--then, yes, go to your local AD and cough up the dough.
  4. Agreed--with all aforementioned. However, keep in mind, that "final 10%" can make all the difference. If you get a watch that has cheap glass and other details compromised (sometimes case is lower grade SS, or dial/hands are cheap), you don't really feel like wearing it. Particularly if you have some better reps, and know the difference. It seems that the longer one collects reps, the lower tolerance one has for mediocrity. I'll live with a lower-end movement if trying out something new--if the rest of the package is the same as the high-end version... Though, if I really like a particular model, I want the best movement I can get. RSM
  5. Does Skyland V2 Bracelet fit V1? Can someone confirm. Thanks.
  6. That 24a is awesome, Kruzer... And you're the man with the 170g Genuine, right? Wow. Total. Complete. Awesomeness... Actually, the one with improved Cyclops/Font that I was referring to is the: 243... Totally understand that the 24a is a project watch--just wondering where to get the best one to start with... And still wondering about polishing! Cape Cod Cloth???? Thanks. Cheers, RSM
  7. Robert is selling one... he says it's "updated" and much better optics on the Cyclops (he had them made in Bangkok); improved font. My guess (haven't received it yet) is that the mag is still not there 100%, nor is the font exact... but greatly improved for out-of-the-box. We'll see if I can live with it... RSM
  8. Getting a new 243 Submersible (that already has updated Cylops/Font)--so it appears that the main thing I need to do is fix the Bezel... -Polishing Markers--is this as simple as "taping off" markers and a lot of elbow grease w/ a Cape Cod? -Tightening Bezel--putting some Loctite in Bezel?--if so, specifically which Loctite? And do I need to remove Bezel to do so? If anyone has advice, its greatly appreciated. Thx a lot. RSM PS While on the topic of Submersibles, anyone know where to get a decent PAM 24a?
  9. very true about "hot" things... we are indeed fickle. also, the V1--despite it's "half dot"--has a more even lume and more solid bezel than V2... and it's selling for a lot less now...
  10. Do not buy a real Rolex (unless you buy an antique one, that will be unique and hold its value...) I'd get a brand new real Skyland (in grey); looks awesome in all three: bracelett, rubber divers strap and leather "pilot" strap... timeless. And, frankly, I feel like Rolex's are a little passe these days... (most people assume you're wearing a fake one, anyway, even if you're not!) Second choice: you don't like PAMs? Come on... There are tons of models; find one you like. They hold their vaule big time (and some even appreciate); so if you get sick of it, you can sell it easily. Maybe an Automatic, like the 104 or 164... or Power Reserve Auto, like the 090. Those actually look decent on braceletts...
  11. PAM 104 Ultimate... would prefer one originally from Andrew. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, RedSoxMan
