1. I've always wanted to try Feeling Man by Jil Sander.

I remember reading that It reminds most people of Burberry London. Dried fruit spice and sweet tobacco. I guess Im going to blind buy this one... a no brainer for me really.

As you know bro...I just cant get enough dried fruit..plum wine...and that sweet heavenly tobacco. ;)

my terre d'hermes ran out a couple months back and i was frantically looking on my shelves for aftershave that had something left. I found a full bottle of this Jil Sander (presumably was my fathers) and god damn it smells good. It just says 'Man' on the bottle though. Edit: I don't like the fact Lobster is also walking around london, smelling like me! ;)

I have since restocked on the hermes (citrusy and a bit woody). My other go to for summer are Jo Malone Black Pomegranate and Jo Malone Mandarin, lime and Basil.

My basic ones for england's spring (read: rain) are Paul Smith Man (green bottle) and Hugo Boss man (bottle looks like a hip flask).

  2. +1

Select the colour you like yourself...I think the texture of the strap is equally important...my cheap 4th gen 42mm PO on expensive strap

woah that strap is a beauty.

where did it come from? I was thinking about a dark green lizard but can't find one in 22mm anywhere.

  3. Thanks for all the encouragement guys!

I think I am going to remove the CG as they are FUBAR and I'm going to get a big crown and faded lv insert.

I will try to paint the dial with a camo pattern similar to the Nigel cabourn spring summer 2012 stuff and paint the hands white for legibility.

  4. Well done!

Your on your way to a 5517! That came out good. Wire coat hanger?

Oh yeah.. there's a nos 5517 bezel and insert in VRM for 10k if your interested :)

Yup, just a small section of a hanger. I even took it from the middle so it is still functional!

I have a 5512 dial and handset incoming, but I'm afraid this watch will never be accurate to any sort of gen.

I can't decide whether I'm going to leave it as an inaccurate rep or just custom paint the dial to remove the Rolex mark and use it as a beater.

  5. Congratulations on 'having a go'.........I remember the first time also.

It appears that you have taken quite a 'literal' approach to one, or two reknown ageing/modding techniques. The coin in the bag treatment is/was intended for the external surfaces of the watch only :) I suspect your drill bit was indeed a 2mm bit?

    Thanks,

I believe it was a 2mm bit. I really should have checked what size the hole should be and not the actual bars. If I ever do more drilling I will forever remember 1.2mm is the magic number!

Oh well, tonight I will try to make some solid bars from a wire coat hanger and a soldering iron!

  6. mesure your drill!

    remove the tube

    compare to gens

and what the hell happened to the rehaut

the big dent in it at 7, did you just smash the glass off????

Thanks, I don't know if all the pics worked for you but I did remove the tube after I realised how to do it!

The dent is from the coin in the bag vintage method.

  7. I'm not sure I'm going to do anything with the case. I don't have a dial, movement, hands or crystal, I just wanted some experience on a cheap case.

I tried to drill it for the 2mm spring bars I thought vintage rollies came with.

Which ones came with solid bars? If I can get a hold of a dial and cheapo movement I might try to assemble something.

  8. Hey, I had this 1680 case laying around from a narikaa special I broke and I decided to take the dremel to it.

what are some criticisms/what is wrong with it?

I think the lugholes are too big as I didn't measure the drill bit.

CG I am not sure about.

when my polishing bits arrive though it should begin to look respectable.

    cheers,

  9. There is a lot to choose from. Rolex DJ, Explorer, Oyster Perpetual, Air-King, Tudor Ranger, Prince Date, Prince Oysterdate, Oyster Prince Date-Day, etc...

They are pretty much all the same!

Those all look gen to me btw

  10. Check out Rolex 6694, I have one and it's around 34-35mm

    cf5c11b6.jpg

There are also Tudor prince's the same size.

That's nice. What mods does it have?

Explorer I 36mm and I 39mm are both very nice, as is the new IWC mark xvi, the new iwc portofino looks very good also. Lots of decent under 40mm reps, they just float under the radar. In fairness there should be lots more, such a pity they don't put as much effort into this size range as into 42mm+ reps.

I guess there's no market for small watches. An explorer is hopefully on the way to me. that new nomos looks pretty nice too.

  11. I love the mark xv's elegance and class but it is just too small on my wrist!

This is my dilemma as well. I can't part with my watch, but I don't wear it due to its very small size. Many years ago I used to wear it--back when smaller watches were the norm. I just can't pull it off nowadays with a fairly large wrist and the inherently tiny size of the MKXV. The nice part though is that the watch is quite thick. It somewhat fools the eye into thinking the watch is slightly bigger than it really is. I have been hoping for a very long time that IWC will make a new Mark series watch that is 42mm-44mm. Perhaps one day...

    sell one to me!
