  1. Thanks for your reply, Andy. Unfortunately, yes on both counts. The good news is the crown guards look great! lol. This may be my motivation for beginning to learn watchmaking. I have several gens, so no hurry. This was my first rep (from Trusty) and I was going to shave the CG's and replace the bezel. Looks like I've done it now. Great watch for the money. Keeping spot on time and pretty close to the gen.
  2. I think I've just scrogged the 2836 in my SSD. I removed the crown to shave the cg's. I was careful to push down the detent only till it released the crown. I was also careful to leave the crown in the wind position. Shaved the guards, went to insert the crown, and it would not retain. I was also careful to not press the detent on insertion. All to no avail. The mov't runs, but the crown won't engage or retain. From what I understand there is no quick or easy fix to this prob. Can anyone recommend someone to rectify this for me? I'm afraid I don't have the expertise to dissasemble the mov't to rectify. I mean I think that's obvious. Many thanks.
  3. I've owned many gens, and the argument is usually "They're expensive, but you'll get your money back on the back end when you sell them". Well, so far I've given them all away to my sons. I've given up about 20 g's in gens. Why am I interested in reps? I like the aesthetics (design), I can actually work on them w/o fear of screwing them up and my pocket book royally, new Rolex's are all about branding excusivity. Not priced anywhere near the value. I remember back in '71, you could get a new Rolex sub for 328 dollars at the China Fleet Club in Hong Kong. Not anymore. You guys are a great class of people and VERY knowledgable. Keep rockin'... One other thing. I remember my first dive w/ my Rollie SD. Banged it against the tank and never wore it in the water again. Seiko from then on.
  4. Bought 2 Omegas from them w/ absolutely no problems.
  5. Oris makes a great watch for the money. These can be had on the secondary market for about half retail making them an even better value. My advice would be to lurk on the various gen forums or post a "wanted to buy". I have the blue faced stainless diver and the full lume titanium diver. Both keepers.
