  1. Excelent information, thanks!

Now what about the number that follows "ETA" when a specific movement is being described? Are there cirtain movements or ETAs that are better than others, any to stay away from?

What movement would my MBK TT sub from Eurotimez have? Its the one By-Tor used in his revirew, the one with ROLEX engraved in the rehaut.

Sorry for all the questions, this is all new to me. Trying to learn so I know what I'm reading in the threads.

  2. I have been reading a lot here and I see a few terms I don't understand too well.

    1) "ETA" I know this is refering to the movement. But what does "ETA" stand for? Then there is a number that refers to the movement. What movements are considered the best? I have a TT sub.

    2) "SEL" I know this refers to the bracelet in some way but not sure what.

If someone can give me a brief description of what this means that would be great. Also....if there is a list of other terms or slangs I would like to check it out as I'm sure there is something I forgot about.

    Thanks

    James

  3. It's hard to tell from those pics which are from the seller...some pics look gen, others are suspect. This doesn't necessarily mean that your watch is a rep, it probably does mean that the reps are that good.

A real quick way to tell if your watch is gen is to set the time. When setting the time on a gen rolex, you turn the crown clockwise to advance the second/hour hands...just like a manual wind ie: your 44mm pams.

Reps using the standard ETA movements/Asian movements like the sub reps are the opposite. When setting the time, you turn the crown counter clockwise to advance the hands.

This is the easiest way to quickly tell whether you need to worry.

This is true, I have a gen sub and I just got my first rep sub and that was the first thing I noticed. You spin the crown counter clockwise to advance the time. The gen spins clockwise to advance the time.

Can anyone tell me why this is? They spend so much effort on making the watch as authentic as possible but this one thing blows it out of the water.

  4. congrats!!! now where are the pics?? :)

    :wwp:

I am terrible at taking good close up pics. I'm sure my Casio Exslim doesn't help. Thats why I put a lint to By-Tors review, he has great up close shots of my exact watch. I'll give it a shot later anyway.

Wow...I just realized how incorrectly I spelled Breitling in my first post.

  5. I would have to agree that an empty Rolex is a huge let down. I don't get what the value of that would be. You don't wear the box, you're not going to bring the box out at a party and show it off to your friends. I would be embarrased to bring that home to my family and tell them it was a bonus for a job well done. In fact I would almost take it as an insult and figure that the boss is laughing about it with his rich buddies over Martinis on a yacht in Costa Rica of all places.

Ok so its a vintage box, the gesture would have said something if there was a vintage Rolex in it. Is it worth anything on ebay?

On the other hand, never underestimate people, especially rich people. They can have some strange ideas of what is funny. He may be messing with you and planning to give you the watch that goes in the box. Think about it, why would ha have the box and not the watch? If he sold or gave the watch away the box was likely to go with it. Unless he lost the watch. Sorry, its just a bit strange.

  6. I just recieved my first REP. Its a blue TT sub, I know, its the most popular rep for the newbies, but its the one I have wanted. I actually bought the watch from a member here but its the exact watch used in By-Tors review shown here http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...t=0&start=0

The watch came from Eurotimez and was actually at Eurotimez for routine service when I bought it from the forum member. Chris at Eurotimez was very helpful in providing information, answering all of my emails, and shipping the watch directly to me rather than back to the previous owner and making me wait for him to ship it to me.

Now to the watch. I have a genuine all SS Rolex Sub and I know many people with the TT subs. I have seen a lot of them up close and handled quite a few as well. I am in no way a Rolex expert but but using the knoledge I have I would not have been able to point this watch out as a replica, at least not without a genuine watch of the same exact model in my other hand, and even then I'm not sure.

In comparing the replica TT to my genuine SS there are only a couple of things I noticed that were a little off, again I'm no Rolex expert.

    1) The lume on the hands and markers are nowhere near as strong as the genuine.

    2) The points on the bezel are much sharper on my gen SS sub. But this could be the way that the TT subs are. My SS sub is the only comp I have at the moment.

    3) The kinetic winding weight is much louder on the rep. I can shake the hell out of the gen SS sub and its silent.

That being said I am very happy with the quality of this watch. Even the weight seems to be accurate. I have the band set up exactly the same on both watches, an equal amount of links. The gen SS sub is 124 grams and the rep is 126 grams. That seems right as the gen SS sub doesn't have any extra weight for the date mechanics or cyclops. I'm sure a genuine TT would weigh a bit more because of the weight of the gold. But as I understand it this particular watch has solid gold center links. The bezel and crown are plated.

All in all, I think the watch is a good replica. I don't think anyone wearing one will be pointed out unless the people around you know you could never afford a genuine one. I could actually afford one if I was willing to slap it on a credit card but at the moment I'm not ready to do that. I'll put the watch to the test over the next few weeks when I wear it around my buddies who also have gen Rolexes and Breightlings. They know I can buy a genuine TT so I am going to let them decide weather I did or not, and believe me, they will call it out if they suspect. I'll post results later.

  7. A couple years ago, one vendor known as TTK offered a Submariner as an entry-level model for a lower price. It was called the "Noobmariner" since it was a good model for a "Noob" to the hobby to get because of its price. It turns out that this model of rep Submariner is one of the best the hobby has seen due to its fantastic dial printing and date wheel as well as other various attributes. However, it is still a rep and has its shortcommings, but has helped many others build better Submariner projects by mixing better made Sub cases with the Noob's dial and date wheel.

The factory that makes this rep is also known for making many other top notch reps of other watch brands, and since the "Noobmariner" name stuck, everything that comes from this factory is reffered to as comming from the "Noobfactory".

Noobfactory reps are available from many different vendors here. The vendor mentioned above (TTK) is no longer in operation here as many folks had problems dealing with him, so do your due dilligence and be cautions.

    Happy hunting B)

    Got it, thanks.

  8. Don't forget to go to Bytors watch reviews section and check out the Noob version he reviewed from Chris (Eurotimez). I think it is the same version that BK sells pre-modded though. The watch is from the Noobfactory which is known to make one of the best out of the box Subs ever. Happy hunting.

Sorry for my ignorance but what is "noobfactory"?

I have been wanting to check out Eurotimez but I can't seem to get the website to open. Tried numorus times but ni dice.

  9. You also might ask one of the modder/dealers like BK what he thinks or maybe someone will chime in here.

FYI though, without real gold the weight won't be accurate - although with hollow center links the TT Subs aren't really so heavy to begin with. All the case sizes and second hand sweeping will be accurate from any dealer here. Even the cheper Asian movements are fine. That is just standard automatic mechanic movement stuff. There will be ETA versions of the watches as well - although some of the ETA's latey have been found to be counterfeits of ETA movements. They will still be of higher quality than the cheaper Asian movements though. The crowns will vary but are all probably close enough for what you are looking for. Some Rolex reps will even accept genuine parts.

Thats pretty much all I'm looking for, and "BK" was the person I was told to contact. Hopefully he will chime in and point me in the right direction.

As to the weight, I know....my genuine all SS sub isn't that heavy. I can tell the case and guts are most of the weight, and I know my SS sub to be 100% genuine. I know a genuine 2 tone would weight much more because of the weight of the gold. I will buy the read deal one day but with a baby on the way I just can't do it right now.

    Thanks

    James

  10. Before you get lynched, let me throw you a bone as I did for another guy this morning James. There are no shortcuts to finding th ebest Sub or any other watch...

You have found a site with a wealth of watch information and watch experts, both for replicas and genuine watches, but as such there is no shortcut to the knowledge base here and you will get no respect from the members unless you earn the knowledge for yourself. Every site on the net has norms, and believe me, I'm not vouching for the ones here, but it is what it is. Every one of us has had to earn the knowledge for ourselves by using the search button. The wealth of info here is staggering. So start with a brand or watch you like and search away. You will quickly and efficiently find your way to the best and worst in its class.

Your question is valid but then again it isn't. There are just too many watches, versions, movements, factories, etc. Some of us who have been around for a while (read old in some cases!) have been around since 2006 and still haven't come close to figuring out your question. So sit back, relax and browze for hours. You will find what you seek. And the members will open up and be more friendly when they see that you have been around a while, "put in the work" and start asking more specific questions.

As and example, let's say you had already done some searching and decided that you might like to purchase a Breitling Skyland Avenger. You had learned that there were some different options and even two different versions available. If you were to then ask the membership which version they though was best I guarantee you that you would get some very specific, helpful and passionate answers. But they have to see that you know something about what you want first. So pull up a chair, start typing and welcome to RWG!

    QUOTE (joint05 @ Sep 1 2008, 02:47 AM)

    hello friends!

i looking for the best reps. the should not discriminate to gen. just prefect reps.

    who know some?

Thanks for the tip, and I have done a few days of research, just not on this site. I came accross Rep Watch Guide first and was refered here by a member there. I know exactly what I want, but don't know much about Reps. I have a genuine all SS sub but have been wanting the 2 tone for a while but I don't want to spend the 7K just yet so I wanted to get my feet wet with a rep.

Here is what I am looking for....the watch to look and feel as authentic as possible. That means the second hand must move correctly, I know that will be a swiss movement. The size (40mm) must be accruate, the weight muct be close to accurate, the crown must be accurate. At least to the naked eye.

I am not at all expecting Rolex quality but I want Rolex asthetics. But at the same time I want to be able to use the watch for a few years until I am ready to add another gen Rolex to my collection.
