  1. I have just purchsed a black faced rubberclad from silex. I'm pretty particular about these things. I started out same as you, black or white, admittedly it is a taste question and can only speak from experience. Before buying mine I was given an AP book w/ colour photos. Upon recieving mine I was stunned to see what an excellent match (or 1:1) it was. It is early days and there have been reports of issues w/ luminova and PVD coating on the bezels. SO far mine appears pretty F***ing spot on. I don't want to shout out too much 'bling' wise w/ the watch that I wear, I like something that appears a little more 'discerning' and hence thethe B/F Rubberclad ROO. If you have the patience to wait, SIlex seems pretty good. I did the noobie thing and went weak at the kneees when I read the EMS Tracking noting "in hands of US Customs', but it turned up a day later and was just as described by other wizened members of the forum who had explained the 'delivery process' on a thread. Good luck and where it well - whatever your choice. mglawrence2001
  2. I have this weekend rec'd my rubberclad ROO from Silex. It is technically superb. As evidence of this: *Wheel date surround blacked out like Gen. *Lum appears excellent, no 'blue-cheesing'. *Resets exactly to 60 on Tach. * !!!PVD: I'm not treating this as a beater nor am I coddling this ROO, but the PVD has not scraped, chipped or peeled although it is early days. I was in LA this weekend and ventured into WT to look (on Rodeo Drive no less)!!! at a Panerai and was only complimented on the ROO by staff there. It is a black faced Rubberclad that to me strikes an elegant balance. People that know watches will recognize the watch, but otherwise it does not 'scream out' and I like the 'discerning' aspect of the Rubberclad. Personally I have no interest in impressing others (my wife knows I love watches and my dog doesn't care less) but I find some magic in wearing and enjoying something as nice looking as this 1:1, and still enjoy other of life's offerings, (like food, clothing, maybe a cave w/ mod cons). Silex is superb to work with. He is busy but always e mailed replies. It was about a 6 week wait, but a great experience and I will order from him again w/out hesitation. My research showed him to be best cost value as well. I'll get pictures up, but in short - it is everything I'd hoped for....so far. CHeersbigears, mglawrence2001
  3. Thanks guys, duly noted on the 'siting'. Got it: greased gaskets, pressure testing (divided by 2 = safe splash depth),,,and get the movement cleaned and serviced. photos coming. thanks gents, -Carerra1
  4. Just spotted an SS AP Roo Rubberclad taking a beating on the wrist of Robert Downey Jr in the opening seens of Ironman.... ...Which lends the question....I'm awaiting delivery of an AP ROO Secs at 12 rubberclad ordered from SILIX. I've read on the forum he's QCing them before shipping. I'm not planning on beating it up....However, as chronographs (w/ five potential points of water entry), does it not make sense to have it Siliconed for WPing to insure a safe splash in the pool and get the 7750 oiled/serviced to hedge bets on the movements longevity? My watch smith has agreed to do this work, but does anyone know if Silix' preship QC means that this it not really neccessary? Thanks fellas, Carerra1
  5. Hey Carlsbad Rolex (I think I must be just down the rode from you in DM), and fellow AP Roo philes. Nice fix on your ROO date/window. It looks beautiful! (I'm awaiting mine ordered from Silix). Now to sacralidge: Could a black PVD bezel be removed and lightly flat black painted to add some additional coating (from rep 001mm of rep to aproximate 005mm of gen) to improve bezel scratch resistance? Or is that a 'no go' as it would not adhere properly to PVD,,,,and , well just creating an abortion? Secondly, would oiling the 7750 sec @12 aid in the watches function and longeveity? Is graphite another approach? If so, which is better - what materials would you suggest? Third, I'm sure you saw the 'waterproof' photos posted w/ lovely OLA. Is there anything that can be done to improve the watches water resistance to tolerate a light spalsh in the pool? (Siliconing? What and how)? Got any suggestions on setting the watch up properly to insure to insure good reserve? I've noticed you're pretty switched on about dealing with these watches. I've combed this this site and 'grasshopper seeks your insight'. Thanks mate.,,,,and bredren of the AP ROO. Would appreciate all your thoughts and that of the forum. Carerra1
  6. Bredren, It's official. I've lost (several) beautiful weekends absorbing every comment on this AP site (et al). Especially good is the "Young Grasshopper" approach; ie: read, read, read again. Absorb,,,,everything, invest time, be respectful and 'gain from the knowledge here-in'. After review: I've ordered an AP ROO Rubberclad Secs @ 12 from Silix on 9/23/08. ??? The questions arising are: * Can this movement be oiled?/graphited/serviced someway to ease friction, "noise" in an effort to improve the movements operation and longevity? * The "Is it waterproof" pix w/ lovely OLA in the pool posted on the AP site were, to say the least 'beautifully done'. And it begs the question. Is there anything that can be done to the watch (ie; silicone treatment perhaps or similar) that can make the watch OK for an occasional splash in the pool?? *Lastly, what's the latest experience the forum's had with AP ROO Sec @ 12?? Are there crossoever fixes from the Portuguisier that have worked? --Peace aya,-'pants on fire! Carerra1
