  1. Nice j. The correct springbar mod is key to 'at a glance' on the wrist. $4 ? You cheap bastard. Love it! Definately kicks then rep up a notch.

    @ T'J

Yes. The operation of the HEV is 'out' only "Operating HEV" as advertised by collectors is merely an acknowledgement that the valve is 'animated'. To assume any water resistance or actual H gas scavenging maintained in a so equipped rep is foolish. The 'epoxy' fix is the only way to go.

An arbitrary excerpt from my archive:

COMEX divers not only needed solutions for water resistance at extreme depth, they also faced the danger of explosive decompression caused by helium penetrating the interior of the watch (divers breathed the mixture of oxygen and helium within their hyperbaric chamber after lengthy deep sea dives). To maintain a pressure identical to that underwater, the mixture in the hyperbaric chambers remained the same during the different phases of work and rest periods. This system was designed to eliminate the need to depressurize the chamber after each phase of work.

Before returning to free air, and depending on the depth attained, a period of depressurization was necessary to equalize the internal and external tension of the human organism. Though the process of depressurization is slow, the gas that accumulated inside the watch, having no means to escape fast enough, exploded the crystal off the watch, thereby risking injury to those inside the chamber and severely damaging an expensive watch.

To make more lay sense out of the above know that helium, an extremely small atomic mass. diffuses through solids at three times the rate of 02. Where H20 and 02 cannot, H e can surpass the trip-loc system easy peasy lemon squeezy and certainly will :)

  2. I'm just saying... If the movement is serviced might be a good deal for a franken...

Oh yeah, definately. It's a good service you pointed it out. It's just that everytime I see a movement for sale with dial and stem, I just wonder what happened to the handsome carrying case they came in, erstwhile known as 'the rest of the watch'. It's odd, unless all three components came from three different scources.

If there were such a thing as a true 1:1 replica Rolex cases out there, an aftermarket Italian TT Rolex style bracelet, gen bezel/insert and crystal? You'd come in well under the wire for a gen 16613 and have one hell of a Franken. But it would still cost you. Like Ubi's 116520's. Cheaper, but certainly not cheap. And he has 2X. The yin-yang twins? 'Cachinnnnng!

  3. actually was tied up at 5 this morning with a rude lil [censored] from Asia who sent me a fake Omega Seamaster I won on the bay.. some people :brow: .. sending reps .. go figure..

Seriously? Sold as 'gen'? Was it 'bait and switch'? Can't imagine you being fooled by a rep. I suppose if one were to be fooled, a Franken Seamaster could do it.

  4. Hey :)

Is anyone of you active in consultancy or ibanking? As a business school student I have a few general questions I'd like to ask someone with industry insight. Thanks :)

PM 'RobbieG' or 'fat.tail.event', they are pros and know what they are talking about. Unfortunately Robbie is in ill health and may not be able to respond.

When in doubt, buy into 'healthcare' and short 'finance'.

  5. "Man cannot create the current of events. He can only float with them and steer." - Otto von Bismark.

Bismark never trolled RWG. I did.

Max; 'Neo', put forth, in his masterwerke; Definitions, Information, and Rescources what a 'troll' were. The 'bend and sway' of the board to the troll's POV was obvious enough, but the requisite; ....to the point of disruption may have been misplaced if not inaccurate. I trolled RWG, most times, to the other side of the spectrum. Some call it camaraderie but trolling by any other name................is.............? The biggest troll here is 'lanikai'. He works as hard at solidarity as 'Rolexaward' worked at replica watch apartheid. I find both equally amusing, but would only prefer one over the other at my Thanksgiving Dinner table. He could bring the 'pork'. And Poi.

I envy you JB, you wax philosophic from a place you may even admit 'cometh with age', but I bet you maintained that even strain back when you played the Ramada Inn Rumba Room at twenty-two. You remind me of my old man, even though we are more peers than that generation apart. You made comment once on RWG in a thread a member was bemoaning the 'rehaut' of a rep Submariner. As a noob I saw no desperation in 'incorrect crown guards and chapter rings', "Don't sweat the small stuff" the old man would say, I said. He; When the car makes a strange noise, turn up the radio. When the VCR is blinking 12:00, throw a pair of skivvies over the machine. You thought then he may outlive us both. Maybe.

What was this thread about again? What subforum is this? Oh. Dear.

  6. I'm reworking my sub, and will be needing a new gen-style bezel ( besides Rolex!). I know that Watchmaterial has one of the better pearls, but who has the best bezel? Is the Watchmaterial bezel good? I assume it utilizes the pearl that they sell separately.

    Thanks!

Insert? I have the Watchmaterial one. I followed member 'Gioarmani' 's advice here and was pleasantly, uh, pleased. He recommends them, but then, if I remember, he stated, perhaps on TRC, he had found a better piece. Then if I remember correctly that source went south.

Anyhoo, 'Search' Gio's topics. He has tutorals and part nos. with regard.

Even tho' this is the LV version, it is what you can expect.

    LV2.jpg

  7. we would not even make it outta the house yet alone Eagle Scout...

Hmmmmmm, I wonder if they have Eagle Scout 4.0 out for Vista yet. :g:

<edit> hackR makes a good point, but I always thought it considerate toward the membership to have "Off Topic" tucked away in the basement. This site's genre really is the watches, I don't deem them 'most important', but some do. Often people will comment to that fact especially when tempers fly. Then others will chime; "It's 'Off Topic', what did you expect? Go back to 'General Discussion' and ignore this subforum." Fair but not easy when some poster starts an inane topic; YEAH! right in your face.

OK I have to go back and redo Bob's calisthenic. I cheated. I clicked the mouse wheel and put it on auto scroll. I also ride my kids' Razor scooter on the tread mill. Who am I kidding? Honestly.

  8. Oh well, I spent everything out of the gate. Saved nothing for the bell lap.

But for just one moment? One fleeting moment? It was just me and clean green ahead. I have that much.

    I saw it were a 116520. And that's all I saw.

  9. He did about 150 or so in one day, just to break the record for posts in a day.

Oh. Ok then. That bastard. I can't beleive he would desecrate the hallowed ground of RWG Original Recipe with loonyness. They were right to chase him through town with torches and ban him from the castle.

No wonder they don't want him, or me around RWGjr.jr. There is certainly no room for us there. What with all the marital aids posted in the Shout Box. And what not.

But, whatever. I'm tired of talking about Fakemaster and Dave, and all the other endearing miscreants.

    Yeah. True, true.

Back on topic: Houndoggie picked up his gen Speedy for $1,500. In Hawaii even. I could sell off 70% of my reps and pick one up, but I'm not that fond of the Speedy.

Yeah, I'm realizing that as well. There have been quite a few mentions to their availability. I've seen the modern ones at Costco. Reasonable brand new actually. Would prefer the vintage tho'. Besides, anyone with coin can get the gen. I've made a game of waiting for the better replica. Meh, everyone needs a hobby. Gonna follow PAMman's progress here.

The Moon Speedy and perhaps Tudors' divers. That's all I'm keen on now.

    See ya' 'squint..................

  10. It's so you, though: sticking up for the downtrodden and the meek who will eventually inherit the Earth.

    WWCD? (What Would Clint Do?)

Hell 'fakemaster' doesn't need me to stick up for him. I just don't like some people's self righteous arrogance, as worn by terribly flawed human beings themselves. It irks me. I mean honestly, what would Walt Kowalski think of 1.1?

OK, kidding aside, you know, I pay attention, but then again I must not. I never got the whole 'fakemaster' deserves this and that stuff. All I remember is him showing up on RWG, amassing a HUGE database of scam sites that put RWG back up into the Google front page, doing some good reviews, and along with 'Rolexadict' and scant others was trying to make the old RWG a 'watch forum' again and were taking things in a good direction. Then he was at war with Dave (I mean who's side are you going to jump on there? Again WWCD? :D ) then JohnG piles on to the point he's a stalking tabloid paparazzi on a mission and Jean runs a poll to see if he should be banned or not? WTF? I must have been drinking heavily through that phase. Deservedly so. I can only imagine.

Anyway I just thought it an odd thing to bring up in a "We need more interest here" thread. We need members. But not 'fakemaster' he's not one of us. Or 'Demsey' if he's not going to see everything our way that 'fakemaster' lover. Beggars being choosers? lmao If Clive, Jean and I opperated like that RWG would have been a one pony circus when the flock left. We would have let you in though Doc. You're OK. Oh and 'Meat'.

  11. That happened to me too, a lot of us. It's referred to as the 'mushroom'. If the watch is rather new, I would imagine the dealer would replace with a new bracelet? Joshua did that service for me.

Another member recently went through this. Not sure, but I think he sourced a gen part and it fit. The 'Search' is acting up, but I will see if I can link that thread..............................

  12. YEAH.jpg

    YEAH!

Ok, Ok, small goals for small minds, but c'mon, it's 'lanikai' we're talkin' here. You think it's easy? Try it!

Hmmmmm. Only 15 posts today. Maybe he's surfing. Hope he's OK. But anyhoo, YEAH!

  13. Shunds.jpg

lol Photobucket banned Shundi's [censored]. Bad Spidey. For shame, for shame.

Not allowed here. BAD Dempsey! No fish for you and no poker on Saturday.

Oh, I have bigger fish to fry than this Doc. I was just over at 1.1 sticking up for 'fakemaster'. Do you know? All your buddies there called me a troll and asked me to leave. Greg actuall said that my trolling was not up to snuff. I had to fight back tears. Well, I did just pull out a nose hair but that's aside the point. And well, they didn't ask, they actually told me to "[censored] off". Imagine! Actually told me, Me! 'Demsey', to '[censored] off'! Unconscionable.

You guys are kind of not quite getting the grasp of the whole "We need to get more members up in here" thing.

Ok, tell those heathans, when your new server is up, they can expect another in house drive by 'Demsey'. I might even roll by with some hard hittin' muthas from this thread. A little of this; :bangin: and some of this; :bicycle: and maybe even some of this :black_eye: K? So peace out. :victory: Werd. To your mutha.

  14. I have just gathered together all the bits for my own franken - a gen case (came complete with a display back which I sold for almost the same as I paid for the complete package, so case with hesalite crystal / crown / pushers cost £45GBP net), NOS 321 dial & caseback (Watchco via Ebay £140GBP), movement holder, dust cover, hands, clamps etc (Cousins UK £70 - 80GBP), Lemania movement from a Tissot Seastar chrono (Ebay £80GBP). The whole thing will cost about £300 - £350 + cost of a movement service, although it's running fine and keeping excellent time. To complete the 321 franken I already have a NOS 1171 bracelet with the correct curved ends. Apart from the movement being signed Tissot rather than Omega, and having a silver rather than gold finish this will be 100% accurate to the nicest version of the gen. The 1960's 321 Speedy has longer, finer dial markers and a polished silver logo instead of painted and it has a delicately shaped center chrono secs hand. Subtly different from the current watch but just nicer and more delicate IMO. At £350 it will be about 25% of the price of a scruffy gen 321 - not bad I think. After all, the genuine Omega parts & Tissot / Lemania movement will always hold their value anyhow.

The case was probably a service replacement because it doesn't have a serial number on the 7 o'clock lug, but this is correct for the earlier 321 movement. The movement is well hidden underneath the solid pre-moon style caseback and dust cover, but Tissot and Omega historically had close associations so it's as close as I can get without a genuine Omega 321. If a 321 movement ever turns up at the right price they can be swapped over.

The big choice is......do I get the new, replacement (Luminova) dial and hands relumed to an 'aged tritium' appearance or leave them alone?? What do you think?

What do I think? This sounds awesome! But without pics it's a bigger tease than my signature GIF!

I think I would leave the dial and hands be. The half life of tritium would render the dial of this vintage with just about, or at, zero glow. Tritium is no longer available, so if you were to get a vintage relumed it would be Luminova? A master at it would relume so it would look factory perfect. Besides, a 'redial' of a vintge watch is not unheard of, actually with regard to Rolex divers' watches, it's pretty common. A new dial (or hands) here is not a concrete 'tell'. The other course, if you wanted to preserve a 'vinatge look' would be to age the dial, patina the hands and indices so it WOULDN'T glow, but looked like old tritium. Man, that's some real WIS replica modding there. Hmmmmmmm.

I was not familiar with the Seastar, so I had to Google it.(a very desireable watch in it's own right!)

    Picture203074.jpg

The only model I found was 'bi-compax'. Three o'clock minutes totalisor, and nine o'clock running seconds. What do you plan to do for the six o'clock hour totalisor, or is there a tri-compax version as well?

Good luck. This sounds like a very unique project watch I will be eagerly following. If you could source the 321? Wow, you beat the game up pretty well.

  15. It's the balance point of price and quality

Dude, I think you just found the new tag line for your web page. :1a:

    @ Ken,

Well put, and I can appreciate the comment alluding 'squabbling brothers'. This board has it's set rules, but are guidelines merely. They only have to be. Like TRC before this, the 'respect' factor, not only for the board and Admin. but the respect the membership has for itself sets a tone. Occaisionally, and I'm party to it as well, things can get testy, but it's often reeled in of it's own accord, not the looming of 'bans', 'warns', 'locked threads' and Mod's patrolling the halls. I like it when members like 'lanikai', or even you Ken get their hackles up. Not that I'm revelling in the drama or anyone's upset, but it verifies the fact; when the benevolence flows, it is honest and deserved. They really mean it. It's not a show. I have a reputation of being a 'troll' elsewhere. 'johnnyboy' thought I were. Others. A reputation as a proactive agressive. Hmmmmmm. An Australian once told me (paraphrased); "Australians will plod along bending like a willow to keep things moving at ease, but step on his war nerve, unrepentant, and all bets are off. Something is going to get broken." I think I could get by OK in Oz. I am a better 'Demsey' here. Not different surely from the old RWG, not contrived, not 'giving it a good go' for the sake of civility, solidarity and boot licking, just inspired to be so. It's like being swept along with a current. You don't have to work at it, it just happens.

A long while ago you sent a PM; "C'mon over Dems, it's just like the old RWG!" A nice and appreciated jesture, but not very tempting. By the end there I had had a bellyful of 'RWG'. What was left over was different. Interesting. A blank canvass. A few went to work. There was a brief moment there where true balance was had. Perhaps you had to peek through the cracked windows to glimpse it, nothing you could appreciate just driving by the place but on the inside it was unique in the face of obstensibly no admin. or moderation. Short lived though. It reverted back to something 'base' and unwholesome. Why it were truly shelved once and for all. 'CPU Exceeded Errors' notwithstanding. :whistling:

Anyhoo, if I had known this were nothing like the old RWG, that it were gobs better, I may have registered sooner. Perhaps it is just as well I hadn't. You really can not appreciate milk and honey until you've tasted a good [censored] sandwich.

    OK, onward.
