  1. The 24D is an interesting model in that Panerai did, at some point in the run of 2500 made that year, start putting the metallic rings around the hour markers.
  2. The term "Black Seal" refers to the WWII Italian SpecOps divers who, when kitted out with their black rubber diving suits, looked like black seals.
  3. For pics, case material and size just click on any of the numbers in the frame on the left or any of the categories in the center of the page. http://www.paneristi.com/reference/vendome...meframeset.html Robert in SoCal
  4. I just notified Bruce @ watches24seven.
  5. I was fortunate in that I got to see this one the day it arrived. It was quite amazing to see how good the aged lume looked, especially the gen-like contrast between hands, hours and lettering.
  6. Yeeeoooowww... still waiting on mine. Yours' is a stunner. Congratulations!
  7. That's a good price you paid for the lathe. Although simple in appearance, older jeweler's lathes offer a very high level of precision and hold their tolerances well. I can't get enough of this type of post... keep 'em coming! Ah... and that movement fits in like it was made for that watch. Beautiful!
  8. I see that you have an E Series gen dial. The giveaway is the "L SWISS MADE L" is under the lower 12. Can't find a rep version like this... congratulations on a hard to find gen 88 dial!
  9. You did a great job with your website! Simple clean design and very easy to navigate (most important). When my 2 projects are finished in the next several weeks, you'll be hearing from me! Robert in SoCal
  10. Beautiful... absolutely beautiful! Can you share with us how you created the welded lugs and crown tube? Robert in SoCal
  11. Just removed this one from my wrist after wearing it the entire weekend. On an early series deployment... way more comfortable than the current version. Robert in SoCal
  12. Here you go... http://www.network54.com/Forum/353391/mess...+at+Large%21%21 Robert in SoCal
  13. I absolutely agree with you! However, if I had the means to afford it, it would probably be on permanent display with other Panerai related vintage items.
  14. 3rd pic down... http://www.network54.com/Forum/353391/mess...x+with+you+guys Robert in SoCal
  15. For the "F Series" Panerai... both the 111 and 113 numbered 4000 units produced. Robert in SoCal
  16. Sorry... was looking for my 10x attachment, couldn't find it. But with the 5x, the gen window (E series 88) has what I would call ever so slightly rounded edges rather than beveled. To the naked eye it looks like a simple cut out w/o a sharp edge but no obvious beveling or rounding. I've only seen reps via pics but so far the difference doesn't appear to be anywhere near significant. The quality, or lack of, of the cyclops is to me a much bigger issue. My fear would be that having a rep cyclops/crystal paired with a gen dial could possibly nullify any hoped for improvement in the area of the date window.
  17. Looks like it all comes down to how they decided to fill the numbers/indices... up to the edges or include the edges. Robert in SoCal
  18. Here are some 9 and 2 "T" dials. Click on the thumbnails to enlarge. Some good dial close-up images too. This is my ref. site of choice. 19. I will take 3 of those! I would definitely like one with the worn brass buckle that you made. This is exciting news! Robert
  20. Hmmm. He was in Italy towards the end of war... All kidding aside... this strap in person looks freaky real. Even the slightly crooked box-end stitching matches the catalog pic perfectly. Robert in SoCal
  21. Just received this strap which is based on the vintage strap pictured in most of Panerai's catalogs. It's very comfortable right out of the box. Peter/Gunny did an amazing job following my measurements for hole placement... dead-on fit in the center hole of 5 with just the right amount of tail. Very cool guy to communicate with and delivery was right on time. He's a true artist whose motivation is clearly passion, not profit. Robert in SoCal
