  1. So I announced about 5 weeks ago that I won a scatola del tempo 4+4 - I still don't know the retail price of such a watch but I believe it is about 700-1.000€, most people never will put that much money on a watch in their entire life, so this watch aims a market on it's own, with a particuliar size of watch too, more about that later

So the one I received is well the 4+4 from the scatola del tempo website in black leather:

I received it with the outer box, nice touch...and one more proof that this is a genuine box it is really an heavy box, mainly made of wood and covered with fine soft leather and black-grey jacquard silk.

Mine is probably a decade old, as I believe the 4+4 line is a regular in the Scatola collection, so it came with light scratches on the leather; but a some massive hydratant cream massage and a little of black shoe wax the box was shinning again and the leather became quite supple, I still need to work on the gold plated buckle that is fading a little. Also the box is individualy numbered on the buckle ;)

The box is separated in two,

    • one side for the bracelet watches

      84902-29602.jpg

This side accept round watches/chrono with bracelet or strap up to 38/40mm - I'd say a 42mm watch with crown is certainly just enough for it, my sub and 1665 fit right in but nothing more...
Once closed this compartement is sealed by the 4 rounded pillow that you can see, so no risk of damage during transport

Don't count on fitting a 44mm pannie or bentley GT...but like I said above the market for this type of boxes is often very high ends, like AP or VC that aim older buyers that prefers "mid-size" watches I believe (VC is often pictured on the scatola website) - but SDT now makes an oversized box.

      84902-29603.jpg

The spacing between each compartement is perfect and as the watches are totaly inserted into the slot there is absolutly no risk of contact between two of your precious - even when you use the slots for bigger watches...notice how the 6263 is completly fitted inside it, not very practical to remove though.

The leather pillow is very well made and designed to maintain your watch perfectly and to fit the slot tight

A small compartement covered of silk, allows a few straps, cufflinks...when you travel ;)

Made of leather like the other side the watch also is fitted entirely inside the silk slot, and covered by a silk panel with integrated pillows that keep the watch in place, the same size of watch can be fitted, my 1665 with SD (work in progress) fits the slot -but again as soon as you get a less usual shape it wont fit beside of a tonneau shape.

Also, there is some thick leather spacers that prevent the strap and buckles for moving and touching the case, one is missing from the box I have, I'd like to get one from Scatola but I fear it will cost more than the price I paid for the whole box :whistling:
      84902-29610.jpg

    The bracelet compartement is removable

    84902-29611.jpg

It is made of plastic (!) and a bit wood on one side but it is covered with silk and with leather except both sides

    84902-29612.jpg

    84902-29613.jpg

The box is made of wood tough

Overall a tremendous watch, I paid this same week 27 euros for a faux leather 6 watch box and the compartements all unglued, the pouch were synthetic silk and the buckle can't even close correctly while on the scatola, the buckle is rock solid.

So it is a tremendous object and even is most of my watches are too big to allow the box to close it is a perfect display box at home, that values my timepieces, difficult then to question their authenticity...

Lastely, look around there are some on ebay floating around with sellers not knowing this is a prestigious item commanding big money - so don't run on the nearest scatola del tempo retailler

Since then, I lost another one on ebay:

    http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...W%3AIT&rd=1

on TZ & the purists there can be also good deal to be made, but prepare at least 300-400 usd...

  2. Don't worry Halley I won't hold you responsible if this goes south. For 40 bucks...I am not going to cry about it.

I am just excited about getting a correct dial for this great watch. It's worth it in my eyes.

Totally worth it, even if I plan to go to the gen soon...

Hope DW can make it perfect, I added some good pictures!

  3. Alright, read this first:

I am & was in no way affliated with DW in any kind of way...So if this project goes on, YOU will sort this out with him, pay him directly, I won't receive or make any money on this...and I don't want to be labled as an intermediate or worse a seller :bangin::animal_rooster:

    So here is the story:

I asked DW about the Santos dial far from being perfect and the lone flaw standing in an overall impressive watch, he responded within 1 hour saying that making this dial 100% would be hard but that he can attain 95-98% (what are the 5% left I don't know), but if you've seen the dials he has on the 6263s you know they are overall quite good, I know some expert can confirm and I also know for sure that he has taken your advices on those dials.

I asked about a quotation, he says a Santos 100 dial should be around 40usd that is quite a good price, but shipping is not included I believe (so make it around 60usd incl shipping).

DIAL would be for ETA only (2824, 2836, 2892).

So now we have the source that can manufacture it for us, but the tricky part is now, because DW does not speak well english, it will be hard to explain him that the dial is plain flat with no guilloche etc...

    What we need is:

1/ high res pics of the dial, to know the font used so that DW is not guessing and that can lead to a wrong font, I believe pughwash is able to identify a font from a high res pic?

2/The exact dimension of the dial, best would be to send him a dial so he can reproduce the shape of it, unfortunalty I don't have a santos anymore...

3/ A description of how the numerals & text should be positionned with explanatory pictures...

As far as I know the overall size and position of the numerals is wrong (the gen numerals appears bolder in my eyes and enlarged compared to the rep dial), 'CARTIER' and 'automatic' should be closer to the numerals too, and lastly, swiss made is wrong...

Any info, help is welcomed, I probably wont have much time to lead this project before the end of the month...but I will follow it closely ;)

LEt me know if you are interrested, and please contribute with any pictures of a gen dial you have ;)

  4. YEs but the reduced use a 2894 not a 7753, too bad!

Is it possible to install a gen dial and movement on this case? either a manual or a 2894? should be a good franken project...but given the price of a speedy probably not worth it...

  5. This wont have to be this expensive I believe,

    There is some movement:

I asked DW about it he believes he can attain a 95/98% perfect Santos DIAL.

So this is what I need to know

1/ The number of people that would buy this custom dial, if price is right, DW asked me the movement I told him 2824/2836/2892 line...

2/A list of ALL the flaw that needs to be corrected on the current version of that dial.

3/If anybody knows the font used by Cartier etc...

4/HI RES PICTURES of the dial of various angles

5/A dial from the current santos rep may also be needed in order to create a dial that is exactly the same size, it would be a shame to have a perfect dial but too big/small for the santos case

  6. Both use asian 7750 - the bentley GT is fairly new and uses the 28800bhp asian 7750 version with day-date, not the altered 7750 to make it a 3,6,9 chrono, 7753 that in my eyes is perhaps a bit more fragile.

    As for cosmetic accuracy:

THe white is off on the bentley because subdial should be grey/silver and the aren't, black, red, blue look good to me but I'm no Breitling expert...

  7. Received the same watch last week, an incredible watch for an incredible price, the new asian 7750 hasn't missed a beat for 9 days...

Follow the EL rules as for setting the date and everything will be ok!!

I kept the bling bracelet though, massive and noticed, I'm looking for a breitling deployant to swap for a leather strap too...

  8. READ THIS FRENCH LAW applies...to counterfeit item in France up to 5 years and 375.000€

    1° forfeiture of civic, civil and family rights pursuant to the conditions set out under article 131-26;

    2° prohibition, pursuant to the conditions set out under article 131-27, to hold public office or to discharge the social or professional activity in the course of which or on the occasion of the performance of which the offence was committed; such prohibition being permanent or temporary in the cases set out under articles 321-2 and 321-4, and limited to five years in the cases set out under articles 321-1, 321-6, 321-7 and 321-8;

    TO BE CONVICTED

Prosecution must first demonstrate that "that thing was obtained by a felony or misdemeanour"...

Then it must demonstrate that the receiver knew that "that thing was obtained by a felony or misdemeanour"...

    BUT:

pretexting you did not know it was a rep is a non factor because the very low price and method of aquisition should have warned you it was either a rep or a genuine that was stolen...and it's enough to be punished.

Never forget that luxury is a huge economy and lobby in France...
