  1. M is from Italy.

hi S...Doc ...i'm in a "secret country" ....ehhehehe

for first sorry for french friends here .... (2-0)

    for the tritium paint

i'm taking info cause seems that for a little quantity for civil use it's allowed ...

in some industry process it can be used ...

i will have info in a short time

  2. I know a court case of a European scientific laboratory that imported a quantitiy of old damaged rifle scopes from Russia back some time to extract the Tritium from the Night Vision. They got rewarded with a heavy prison fine. And no, there was neither a big quantity nor a large amount of scopes over a short period.

seems that due the law in my country i have no restriction about this..i'm taking info about

  3. Honestly I would never even think of importing quantities or shipping quantities of Tritium into God's own country America. I doubt that the lovely Homeland Security would find that funny and would rather get you arrested. It's a highly controlled substance and dangerous, and as Pugwash correctly stated, it is possible to make a dirty bomb from it - in these days - nobody would believe you that you would want to get watches done. :)

no matter ..i'm not in USA ...and i don't want to have a big quantity..... a dirty bomb need a big quantity....i suppose...

if i have some news i will write here

  4. It was removed as it was used as a starter in nukes. It's also ideal as a terrorist dirty bomb. Not that it'd kill people, but it would scare the crap out of people when the words "radioactive dirty bomb" was read out on the news.

If you were found to be home-making tritium, you would have a lot of explaining to do to very scary people without a sense of humour.

It's not that it's dangerous (it can be in the quantities you can get, if you've got no real lab experience) but it's the sort of thing that scares the uneducated, especially those in government.

ok i will ask to BIN LADEN his info....

apart from exagerate thought ......the real reason was to avoid people outside professional use to be injuried by a long term use....

we probably have found some similar paint we are waiting info about....

  5. on the web page it says

Litroenergy TM samples are not available at this time. Once available we will announce.

Maybe they are just not ready to sell only market. :)

i hope it refers to the pics...that are few..they want to take photos about other application of these paints...

    Item Number: 019

One ounce Tube of each Eight colors. (Sampler pack) $19.95

  6. Looks like it. I know one other member that will be interested when he sees your post.

I would sacrifice the super bright 45 second glow of SL for something that glows bright 24/7 without a light source. I just wonder if the particle size is small enough for us. It says non toxic so if it is we could grind it down hopefully. Or better yet, it's good like it is.

i'm starting to think that to have attention from them it's needed to place an order... if tomorrow they will not answer i will try to do this

  7. If you remember, let me know what they say. I can mail them too as they are in the US, but dont want to flood them with messages.

try also you...looking at topic i think that we are only few people interested in this paint... (probably other people like to put under the sun their watches many time in a day to have only a short effect......)

  8. Not at all. Night Color needs to be charged by a light source. This product claims otherwise.

    copy&paste

Litroenergy is a patent pending designed light source material that emits light for 12 plus years- without electricity or sun exposure! Our development/design of long-life, self-luminous micro particles called Litrospheres (non-toxic) emit light continuously for 12 plus years (half-life point) without any exposure to a light or other energy (not effected by cold or heat). This extremely low cost material offers 24/7 light, which can be injection molded or added to paint.

    right...

i wrote to them yesterday to have prices and details...no answer yet

  9. M- The process involves turning a solid block of tritium infused plastic into powder by filing; we're talking large quantities, and hence the health risk as that powder can be inhaled while filing.

Mixing it into a paintable media, however is as easy as mixing it with an oil based solution...

    and phosphor?

i found this on the net...this don't require light to recharge...

    http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/12/new_light_glows.php

Theoretically, it should not be a problem to handle, mix or apply (as long as the material does not come into sustained contact with your skin). I believe that it was removed from the marketplace more to placate the public's fear of anything 'radioactive' rather than because of any real health concerns (when applied & used properly). This is why it remains as a tool for medical researchers & practitioners (who tend to be more knowledgeable & less prone to be swayed by (non-peer-reviewed) urban legends).

I have a friend working in medical research & it is used widely in her research. Unfortunately, it is virtually impossible to 'redirect' any of the material away from the lab. ;)

good idea...i will try to seek also this direction...

but what we need is not tritium only.... but a mixed composite made by tritium and phosphor (tritium give to phosphor the energy to light...)

  10. Indeed... There are no sources that offer it directly. But there are ways to do it...

I have a write up somewhere... Materials would probably not be too difficult to source... But there is a health risk involved...

    i know Ubi

i used it for a while...

but you must know that tritium radiation is not so strong to pass plastic

so to use it are needed glows and to remember to use every time the same stick...

the risks are substantial and invisible.

Discussing it in too much detail can also get you looked at rather closely by Homeland Security, I bet. :)

there are more risks using a dremel while polishing an iron case....

    from wiki...

"Tritium presents no external radiation threat when encapsulated in non-hydrogen-permeable containers; its only danger is its constitution into the human body from direct contact, which may in turn cause long-term, low-dose radiation damage. This is because beta decay radiation from tritium is not very energetic; it is incapable of penetrating through glass containers or even intact human skin."

    i found this ...

  11. M-

Long time since we last spoke. Hope you are doing well :)

Yes- I was able to source a couple of tritium pearls, but for a very high price. I ended up having to throw a few away- One was cracked, one was so dark in tone that it was unacceptable and the rest is what I have pictured, which I will be using in a few of my projects.

I am going to see if I can source a few more, but am somewhat doubtful that it will happen...

    Good to hear from you!

    R

    thanks Randi

all is going well... hope the same for you...

thanks for the interest ...let me know for the pearl (looking for the one on the 5517)...

i was tring to build interest about Tritium, cause making franken with Luminova bring to a bad final result...

you know i make only hi profile franken ...but every time i want to refine a dial i must torture myself using superluminova....

the final result is fine ...but not the best i can reach...

i have had and used tritium on vintage dials ... but i've finished it from 5-6 years ago ( it was from my GF workshop...)

i know that tritium is used by gun manufacturer for the "night dot"

  12. i'm tired about Luminova and S-Luminova.... (as i told in another topic ...)

so i was trying to find a Tritium provider or a way to have a bit...

vintage dials with Luminova seems like monsters.....they loose the feeling with their age...

    so after telling that ...

    any idea?

    ----------------

an example to explain why i would like to find some tritium...

    here

    -

  13. I know of a recipe to make it from somewhat common items out there (somewhat common meaning somewhat easy to get your hands on).

Not exactly the cleanest process, but it can be done...

"i'm OT... i'm starting a new topic..." 2 ours ago....

"i liked to start a new topic about tritium.... "on editing our

  14. I was looking at my matte transitional dial, and noticed the colour of the 'faux tritium' markers looked different under soft light. In pictures, and if looked at closely under a bright light, the colour of the markers is soft lemon-yellowish, slightly raised and texturized. In the dark, the colour is the same as under the bright light.

But under more natural lighting, the markers have the appearance of being more 'aged' sandy beige in colour and texture. I don't know if that's a normal optical thing, but I thought I would ask if that was characteristic of the revell night color stuff- not sure if that's the name that Edge used in his review of mods for a 1680- but those were the only markers I saw that I thought were similar in texture and colour under light. Maybe yellow just looks different from a distance under softer light condtions?

aged genuine tritium become next to the pink colour if you have kept the watch in a safe ...not under the light....

aged genuine tritium become more yellow if you have worn the watch ...with the light ...

  15. Ok thanks and only ofrei has this pearls? Do they look like the gen? Ofrei dont has a picture in his online shop.

no not only ofrei has them.... i've bought some from a watchmaker supply store in my city...at the same cost...

these pearl don't seems to be like the old gen only cause the gen were fitted with tritium... that has different caracteristic

if you want to know how these "new" vintage pearl seem look at the white one on the UBI pic...

the only things you can do is to buy one of these...and mod this with coloured luminova or... if you are luky with a bit of radioactive tritium...

  16. I know of one in existence that may surpass that - a certain Italian whose 6541 project started with casually finding (as you do)...a genuine case

Perhaps he will step up and post some pics? ;)

    ;)

the worst part i have is the classicwatch bezel insert.... this tells all....

on the left the good one... on the right the modded MBW (sold :( )

  17. after lost a lot of time modding case ....from some time i prefer to take vietnam case and to accept to make only few mods....

if many people calculate the cost of all the mods to make starting from a worst case (and to have a worst result),this cost could be so next to the vientnam case cost that all become to easy to decide....

i have found many franken arround.... but none is so close to the gens as the Phong ...

    M

    (sorry for my bad english)
