  3. the PVD on the new BR02 watches is definitely different than the cheapie RAID watches....check out lani's review & pics. deltatahoe
  4. lani has posted pics of his pvd br&02 chrono; he commented that the coating is high quality... deltatahoe
  5. not my thing, but i can see the appeal lani, you should track down the nato polexpete has his on -- i think it sets the watch off nicely... congrats on the new toy deltatahoe
  6. so i was out playing golf last saturday and spotted a guy in the restaurant enjoying a post-round beer, sporting a vintage paul newman daytona. i got a pretty decent look at it; it was either a genuine or a high quality (ie. DW or similar) replica. given the wealth in the area and quality of the golf course, if i were to guess i'd say 50/50 chance it was a genuine. needless to say, i was a little surprised to see such a rare watch being worn in such a random, casual setting. this made me think, what is the most rare/expensive watch you've seen 'out in the wild'? deltatahoe
  7. have you considered finding some good pictures of a genuine on the web and comparing to some of the great pictures of the bk yachtmaster on the board here (from the likes of ubiquitous, etc)? looking forward to seeing your review deltatahoe
  8. now this is funny (and mostly true) deltatahoe
  9. personally, i'd go for a sinn u2 on rubber strap deltatahoe
  10. she's a beauty; welcome to the 1675 club deltatahoe
  11. you lucky dog nanuq!!! looks like an absolute beauty. i'll PM you with my forwarding address deltatahoe
  12. thanks for the response freddy; i know deep down that you guys are correct and that i'll be happier in the end with an original dial. given this, i'm thinking i will probably make an offer for one of the hand sets from TZ -- i have a value in mind that feels fair for these, which is definitely below the seller's asking price. assuming i can pick these up for a reasonable amount, i'll just keep an eye out and be patient for a genuine tritium 1665 dial that i'll be happy with... but i'll be honest -- given i like the luminosity of superluminova, the service dial is a pretty tempting option. it may sound crazy, but i'm actually tempted to buy the service dial & hands while i wait to find the right tritium dial i know i'll be happy with in the long run. given the history of vintage rolex prices, i'm guessing i won't have too hard of a time selling the service dial for close to what i paid for it. with this in mind, i have one last question with regard to the price, do you still think it is overpriced considering it includes both the luminova dial and hands? or is this typically how these are sold -- as a pair? thanks again deltatahoe
  13. well this makes my day thanks for taking the time to write about this ziggy all this time i figured i was alone in not having a clue what the G stands for glad you figured it out; i'm sure one day it will dawn on me deltatahoe
  14. ummm....you do realize that is not a rep, right? deltatahoe
  15. it's a feet first 5513; probably from sometime in the late 60s to early 70s... deltatahoe
  16. i figured you (and the other purists) were going to say that i'm inclined to agree, although i'm wondering how long it is going to take to find a genuine tritium dial that i'm happy with. i guess your suggestion would be to get any old dial that is in good condition (ie. no scratches) and have ziggy relume it? any thoughts/suggestions on where to find one of those? deltatahoe
  17. so after quite a bit of thought and consideration, i've decided to hang onto my comex and replace the dial with a genuine 1665 great white dial and a genuine great white caseback. i just can't swallow selling this watch for materially less than what i put it up for sale for, and have decided that i'm not happy with the look of the comex. so i'm back to the drawing board for a better solution first off, i have a confession: i really like having my watches glow at night so given this watch is a franken already, i was thinking i might be happy with a luminova service replacement dial & hands on this watch. plus, someone on VRF is currently offering a dial and hand set here for $1k, which would be a fast and easy solution to my problem. now, if i were to go with an original tritium dial, one concern i have is that i prefer a clean white tritium look (as opposed to yellowed markers), and my comex currently has (genuine) hands with a more yellowed look. so i think i am going to need replace the hands to match whatever new dial i purchase, b/c i'm confident at this point that whatever dial i eventually purchase is going to need to have a nice, clean look to it. i managed to fine a set of NOS 1665 hands on TZ here; i'm debating picking them out now while i can find them... so i have several questions for you guys: i) if you found yourself in this situation, what would you do and why? ii) what is your estimate for what i should expect to pay for: a) an original 1665 tritium dial & b) a service luminova dial and hands iii) do you have any suggestions as to how/where to track down genuine 1665 dials, and seemingly more difficult, a genuine great white caseback? thanks in advance from a confused collector deltatahoe
  18. i'm no expert, but based on the texture of the tritium, looks gen to me... deltatahoe
  19. good stuff robbie i've certainly enjoyed your recent increase in posting; particularly some of your "collecting philosophy" threads i'm slowly trailing behind here in terms of post count...i'll get there eventually deltatahoe ps, couldn't agree more re: RWG being great for workaholics -- i certainly need something to break up the long days
  20. looking good lani i'll admit -- i almost closed the deal on a used wm9 v2 sub; after that fell through, i emailed bk after seeing your pics last night deltatahoe
  21. i think that would be interesting.....let people look at the hard evidence if you will deltatahoe
  22. hmm....this i the first i've heard about the gloss vs. flat dial (although admittedly i haven't done a ton of research on this watch just yet) -- do you have any photos to demonstrate this by chance? thanks in advance, deltatahoe
  23. i think i know who this watch belongs to (unfortunately not me!!), and i think he is going to be very pleased amazing work ziggy; i must have missed the thread where people were taking shots at you, but in my mind there should never have been a debate in the first place.... deltatahoe
