  1. one quick comment chief about ARing this crystal -- it already has a rep AR coating (or at least mine from the original batch from EL did -- i've heard some of the later versions are different), which would obviously need to be removed before having your AR coating done. just figured i'd let people know so you don't get a bunch of 3717 crystals with pre-existing coatings. plus, i'm not sure if ziggy will remove existing coatings for people -- i've just had him pop the crystal for me. the 3717 is a beautiful watch though -- in the category of a super rep if you ask me... deltatahoe
  2. the endlinks from joshua's "updated" vintage daytona fit my dw daytona 6263 perfectly, as you can see from the pictures below (a full post with more pictures can be found here). hope this is helpful deltatahoe
  3. wierd....i posted the thread in the "my collection" instead of the "rolex" section; it must have somehow partially posted here from my preview. regardless, the complete post can be found here. mods, feel free to delete this post. sorry deltatahoe
  4. i was really fortunate, and managed to snatch up twotone's dw daytona 6263 when he put it up for sale a while back in a moment of insanity. i sent it on a trip to ziggy pretty much immediately after i received it for a couple mods (more on that later), but quickly ran into a bit of a roadblock finding end links that fit properly (the ones that came on the watch weren't quite right). i bought a couple different bracelets in search of end links that fit properly, but didn't have much luck. then one day joshua posted a new vintage daytona model for sale that had a bracelet with 571 endlinks, so i emailed him to see if he would be willing to sell just the bracelet and endlinks from this new watch. he indicated that he was, so i decided to give it a shot. well i'm really happy i did, as the end links fit the dw daytona perfectly. my dw daytona 6263 is finally complete some close-up pictures of the 571 end links (i paired them up with a solid midlink vintage bracelet -- i like the extra heft of the solid midlinks) some pictures depicting the other mods (genuine t-21 and triplock crown & tube) a couple wrist shots and finally, a special thanks to twotone for his generous gesture to part with such a beauty thanks for looking deltatahoe
  5. i was fortunate to pick up TwoTone's dw 6263 daytona a while back; it took a trip to ziggy pretty much immediately after i received it for a couple mods (more on that later), but i ran into a bit of a roadblock finding end links that fit properly. i bought a couple different bracelets in search of end links that fit properly, but didn't have much luck. finally, when joshua posted with a new vintage daytona model here that had a new bracelet and 57
  6. nope, not available. sorry leonard... deltatahoe
  7. i'll be the first to warn you -- many people feel this way when they first get here, then end up eating their words and get addicted to pams like the rest of us. so whatever you do, just don't buy a pam. next thing you know, you'll have eight of them. deltatahoe
  8. re: the flower tossing lovefest you're welcome -- we were all newbies at one time or another (to be honest, i still fee like a noob). your observations re: the different movements in the watches you've already ordered seem right on to me, although to be honest i haven't really ever gotten too caught up in the various differences in ETA movements (ie. gold anodized vs. nickle plated). good luck with the daytona; at least you are aware that you're taking a risk with that one. some people don't have any issues, while many others end up with a dead movement. it's definitely a crapshoot with the seconds at six 7750s. anyways, keep reading and enjoy the hunt deltatahoe
  9. ziggy has confirmed that this does not "hurt" the movement deltatahoe
  10. a couple quick thoughts newf... first off, some movement basics. there are both genuine ETA movements, and in various cases, asian movements that either i) are copy versions of the ETA movements, or ii) have the same function as the ETA movements. you can certainly find rep watches with genuine ETA movements in them; the question of whether or not those ETA movements are "swiss made" is a bit of a grey area, and another discussion altogether. in terms of asian movements, an example of i) above is the asian 7750, which is a copy version of an ETA 7750. there are even two versions of the asian 7750: a) an older version with 21.6k bph (which is known for having many issues) and ii) a newer version with 28.8k bhp (which ziggy our expert watchmaker has confirmed is a nice, reliable movement once properly oiled/serviced). an example of ii) above can be seen in the uPO, with the "swiss" version having a ETA 2824-2, and the uPO "lite", which has an asian movement that looks nothing like the ETA 2824-2, but performs the same functions as the ETA 2824-2. in terms of picking a watch/movement combination, my suggestion would be to surf around and find a watch that catches your fancy; then to do the quick research about what various versions of the watch are available (both in terms of various sources, as well as different movements). the advent of "super reps" has made this process a little bit easier, as for these watches there is typically only one source (factory or "maker") of the watch. many watches are only available with asian movements (such as the new b&r 42mm w/ date reps), while others provide a choice between versions with ETA movements vs. "lite" versions with asian movements. you should note that in many (most?) cases, these "lite" versions may not be identical in other regards to their swiss counterparts (for example, the asian sfso doesn't have a sapphire crystal or double sided AR coating). there are a number of notorious examples of watches that were (at one time) advertised as having ETA movements (46mm b&r anyone?) that ended up having asian movements, but that's another story altogether. in most cases, when a watch is advertised as having an ETA movement, you are getting a good quality, known movement. hopefully this helps; feel free to ask other specific questions... my final suggestion = hold onto your wallet -- this hobby can get very addicting deltatahoe
  11. not sure if a gen exists (going to iwc's website or googling "white dial ingenieur" would be a couple places to start), but i'm guessing that king's pictures just look different due to the lighting (ie. the watches are from the same factory)... hope this helps, deltatahoe
  12. i guess your SSD could be different than themuck's (who tested the watch & said the HE valve was definitely functional), but i would think all of the SSDs would have the same HE valve... deltatahoe
  13. i'm couldn't be much happier with my ss santos chrono....so my vote goes for the ss deltatahoe
  14. the blue turning wheels are BACK! good to see you settled in shultz any particular new reps caught your eye? deltatahoe
  15. unbelievable it must be pretty thrilling to successfully complete these kinds of projects ziggy -- i can't imagine trying to pick up that tube let alone press & glue it to a tiny watch hand.... one thing is for sure -- there is going to be one happy breitling owner reading this topic today deltatahoe
  16. nice shot doubleT taking watch box shots is strangely difficult....there is no way to get all of the watches in focus at the same time. btw, i've been meaning to create a post about my dw 6263 daytona (i've recently completed the mods for it); here's a teaser pic of an old member of your rolex family..... thanks again for parting with it -- i couldn't be happier with it deltatahoe
  17. there haven't been too many reviews of this watch; i've considered this one for a while, but never really got around to picking one up. i'm sure joshua will confirm what the actual size of this one is if you shoot him an email -- he is typically very responsive and patient with new buyers. anyways, those are just my comments -- i'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you decide on; there are so many great watches here to choose from. finally, welcome to RWG seanrye feel free to ask any other questions -- i think you'll find people here to be pretty helpful so long as you have the right attitude. cheers deltatahoe
  18. nice choice -- you won't be disappointed with the noobmariner for the money. don't worry about using an oddball payment method -- TTK will make sure you'll get your watch deltatahoe
  19. if you are looking for good quality, thinner straps, the mf straps come to mind. here is a link to their vintage 1942 strap... personally, i think most pams look better on straps that are a bit thicker (ie. 4mm). however, i have my 183 on a watch boys gator, which is thinner and looks great imho. but generally, if i'm looking for a dressier look, i'll wear a dressier watch. just my $0.02... deltatahoe
  20. wow -- cool watchmaking tool. looks like you've got the right tools to start doing your own mods you've already taken some very nice shots of your breitling it's amazing what good lighting and some simple tips/tricks can do for photos, huh? welcome to RWG rod deltatahoe
  21. hmm.....i got the impression he was a college student, not a grad student well which one is it kevin??!! regardless, i know i'm glad i didn't discover RWG as a student deltatahoe
  22. hi kevin, welcome to RWG finding this site must be bittersweet for a college student -- all of these amazing watches and no income to buy them regardless, good luck with your first purchase. given your age and the parameters you laid out in the other thread, i'd personally go for the asian steelfish w/ black dial... cheers deltatahoe
  23. i'm not sure that ofrei sells the day/date wheels....i got mine from cousinsuk; you can see the links to the appropriate wheels in my post here... hope this helps deltatahoe
  24. one thing i would comment is the crystal on davidsen's is probably one of the best crystals i've seen on a pam rep -- very nice. davidsen's stock model is superlumed -- no need for a relume like i said before -- i wouldn't hesitate on this one -- it's a beauty archibald, if you are able to find a watchsmith that is willing/able to modify the lugs for you, please post about it -- i'm pretty sure it is a difficult task.... deltatahoe
  25. very nice, helpful review interesting that the strap is spot on -- i feel like i remember some people complaining about the strap... i'm curious -- how is the sweep of the asian movement compared to your gen? deltatahoe ps, nice lume shot -- kudos for creating a lume shot that accurately depicts what the watch actually looks like
